Pristine Ladakh Trip May 2010
This video-slideshow travelogue seeks to provide a bird's eye-view of our recent Ladakh trip from May 9-14, 2010. We were three couples and between us took several photographs out of which the selected ones have been juxtaposed with thematic sequencing and emotion provoking medley.
I look forward to your feedback and comments in improving this particular bollywoodian style presentation which eliminates verbal commentary and yet gives the viewer a fairly clear idea of the trip.

Leh city as seen from Supermarket in Ladakh
Pristine view of Leh city in Ladakh which is surrounded by Himalayas. Religious place on a hilly area with monastery, chorten (stupa) and player flags. Environment seems cold and dry, house are constructed in traditional style on a hilly areas.
Leh was the capital of the Himalayan kingdom of Ladakh, now the Leh district in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The town is dominated by the ruined Leh Palace, the former mansion of the royal family of Ladakh built in the same style and about the same time as the Potala Palace.

Ladakh tourism's dirty secret - India's highest landfill
Thousands of tourists visit Ladakh each year and a dirty secret has been quietly growing behind the mountains. India's highest landfill and it's filled with trash thrown by all who have ever visited Ladakh..including us!
Sensitive and fragile areas which do not have the infrastructure for disposal and recycling need to address this serious and growing issue. Single use plastic and packaging needs to be banned entirely.
Feral dogs also pose a very real threat to both wildlife and people, with multiple attacks that have been recorded the last few years.

Awesome Journey to Gurudongmar Lake Sikkim India | Landscape of Ladakh
The journey to Gurudongmar Lake in Sikkim, India along the Tibetan Plateau at an altitude above 17000 feet is an awesome experience. You will experience landscape exactly similar to the landscape of Ladakh. Gurudongmar Lake situated at an altitude of 17800 ft is one of the highest lakes in the world and highest lakes in India. Situated at 190 kms north of Gangtok and and 67 kms from Lachen, the lake remains frozn during winter. There is no vegitation and there is less oxygen in the air.
This video of journey to Gurudongmar Lake in north Sikkim was captured during last week of November 2017.

Following the half Frozen Zanskar & Indus in Ladakh
Half frozen rivers Blue Zanskar and Muddy brown Indus carrying the pieces of frozen ice with it as I drive along them in the peak winter in January first week in Ladakh.
Ladakh in winters typically means Chadar Trek – but not all of us can do trekking in the extreme weather of Ladakh winters. Does this mean Ladakh is out of bound for us in winters ? Thankfully No. There are mini road trips that you can do with Leh as your base location in Ladakh where you can comfortably stay in centrally heated hotels. I spent 4 days in Ladakh to discover these absolutely scenic road trips from Leh. Chilling is the starting point of famous Chadar Trek that happens in winters on the Zanskar River when it is frozen and trekkers walk on this frozen river. However, if like me, you are not the trekking kinds but still want to enjoy the river & mountain landscape of Ladakh in winters – take a short drive to Chilling – that takes you along the Zanskar River.
On this drive you must include the confluence point of Zanskar and Indus River. This is one of the most beautiful and discreet confluences that I have seen. Muddy green Indus flows from Leh and merges with the pristine blue Zanskar. For a distance the waters flow in parallel, demarcated by a thin layer of frozen water, as if moving together while remaining independent. It is a sight to relish when you see streams of blue and green water flowing together. Typical winter Ladakh images to cherish if you are yet to visit Leh Ladakh.
In January, you would see the edges of the rivers freezing and the pieces of frozen ice floating in the river. As you drive up the Zanskar River towards Chilling, the blue waters of the river by the icy frame would mesmerize you. At places the river is more or less frozen and the stream of water flowing below it can only be heard. At other places the frozen ice would showcase the frosty ice color and the pattern would let your imagination go wild.
I have never done a more beautiful riverside drive than a drive to Chilling in Ladakh.
On the way you see frozen waterfalls that are simply stunning.

Ladakh : Breaking Stereotypes
Ladakh is that one place, which is by default on everyone's Bucket List.
But what happens, when a pristine land becomes a tourist hotspot?
Last year I went on a trip to Ladakh that changed my paradigm towards a lot of things.
Like so many of you, I have a million memories that I shall cherish forever.
But in some ways it was very different for me in the sense that I lived the Ladakhi life.
Saw the world through their eyes.
And it was in sharp contrast to how we see it.
There is a lot to learn from Ladakh and its age-old sustainable practises and this short documentary talks about the same.
Help me break the stereotypical Ladakh image. Share this.
Or if not, just implement this awareness in your travels to every other place in the world and especially, LADAKH.
Julley!
