The oldest park in town, Prittlewell Square lies within the Clifftown Conservation Area, which was designated in 1968 due to the historic and architectural significance of the area.

Westcliff-on-Sea is a suburb of Southend-on-Sea, a seaside resort and unitary authority in Essex in south-east England. Westcliff on Sea is situated on the north bank of the Thames Estuary, about 34 miles east of London.
The cliffs formed by erosion of the local quaternary geology give views over the Thames Estuary towards the Kent coastline to the south. The coastline has been transformed into sandy beaches through the use of groynes and imported sand. The estuary at this point has extensive mud flats. At low tide, the water typically retreats some 600 m from the beach, leaving the mud flats exposed.
The London, Tilbury and Southend Railway line arrived in the 1880s, connecting the town with London and shortening travel time to and from that city. Westcliff railway station in Station Road is now managed by c2c.
An area of Westcliff bordering Southend town centre has been classified as a conservation area, including Prittlewell Square gardens and the Grade II listed building, Our Lady Help of Christians and St Helen's Church.
The main shopping area in Westcliff-on-Sea is Hamlet Court Road, where the department store Havens, established in 1901, remains the anchor store. Hamlet Court Road took its name from a manor house called the Hamlet Court, which stood on land now occupied by Pavarotti's restaurant and the Nat West bank, facing towards the sea with sweeping gardens down to the rail line. The road later developed into a strong independent retail area, and quickly became famous outside the area as the Bond Street of Essex.

1987 first Sunday in December Clifftown Parade
1987 when I was in my apartment overlooking the River Thames estuary. One of those special Sundays when my Mum and Dad came to visit. The lounge was a work in progress with painting and decorating to commence. Another universe before I went travelling and discovered another world is out there.

Priory Park - Southend (360)
Priory Park in Southend-On-Sea, Essex. The park is, or at least was, home to a Christian Priory that opened during the 11th century and was open until King Henry VIII's Dissolution of the monasteries between the years of 1536 and 1541.
The mound at the beginning of this video is actually a lot older, and is a reconstruction of a Saxon burial mound dated to the 7th century, and most likely contained the remains of one of the Kings of the Kingdom of Essex. It is likely this burial was not entirely Christian, and is likely the people at that time had duel-faith observance, whereby Christianity and Paganism were both accepted religions and sometimes followed simultaneously by individuals from that time.
There is a chance that the area had previous pagan religious significance then, before the site eventually became a monastery and a priory later on. After the dissolution of the monastery, the site became a home for some wealthy families over the years. During this video you are taken about the park and into the house which has kept some of the period decoration, but also a representation of the older Tudor parts elsewhere in the house.
Today the grounds are free for the public to access, and include the old monastery building as a free museum, park areas and well-maintained gardens.
