BMW New Zealand Golf Open Blindfolded Driving Experience
A Trans-Tasman battle put Kiwis pro golfers Michael Hendry and Mahal Pearce and Aussie's Jason Norris and Steve Jones in the hot seat. This was a driving range with a difference... and the golfers were blindfolded relying only on instructions from their caddies.
Kapiti - Otaki Beach Ratepayer Fence Protest (Christmas Eve, 2018)
Hi, this is the Tasman Road Reserve Fence Protest, Otaki Beach, New Zealand filmed on Christmas Eve day 2018.
The background for this situation is long and goes back to 1922. A man called Byron Brown gave some land for a public park, some other land for the Otaki Beach Health Camp and then created the original motor camp which abates the original playground. I believe if he thought the motor camp needed this land he would have made it so at that time.
A playground was not created till the 1980s and the then Otaki Borough Council didn't want to do that but tried to sell the public's property on which they wanted to build four houses. Of course they didn't run this by the public but what else is new. This was stopped and they were forced to create a playground they didn't want. They did that after a public fight but did not install one stick of play equipment.
Then fast forward to the K.C.D.C. being created around 1986 and set up as a business and that's exactly where the rot set in. The people who work in the office and our elected representatives seem to believe and act like they own everything they control. Let me make this plain once and for all - the council owns absolutely nothing. They are only managers and make a well paid and expensive job of it. I worked on the Kapiti Borough Council a lifetime ago when the public had a local workforce who did a good job at a reasonable price. They certainly didn't have to tar-seal a road five (5) times to get it right like these overpaid, under worked and very expensive idiot contractors we employ these days. When I think about it this is really about far more than some stupid fuckin' fence graffiti but I digress.
There is a hillock that separates both halves of the playground and the Kapiti District Council do not want to do anything about integrating both halves of our land. They did attempt to flick it off to the present camp owners. The said land has a current market rate of about $1,000,000. The council tried to sell it off to these people for the the grand sum of $180,000 which locals only just stopped. Our local Councillor, a certain Mr. James Cootes has done nothing about this situation and probably will continue in the same vein. As I said it is a long story.
A couple of years ago 2 council office workers spent two days frying up cheap sossies with bread and telling one and all about the glories to come for our little playground. We got a pirate ship but most of the play equipment was taken away and not replaced (by law it only lasts ten years and then has to go. Probably in some council workers backyard).
As a man and wife asked me as I was leaving this confrontation, What happened to all the stuff here?. They told me they have been coming here for 25 years and were shocked to see the state of said playground. I had to tell them that Tasman Road Reserve, Otaki Beach is the most neglected public playground in the Kapiti District and that because of systemic council malice things would no doubt stay that way. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
We've seen this in a thousand different ways ever since the rich started selling off our property many years ago. There was a time most young folk don't know about when we the people owned all public utilities. The old Otaki borough here used to give every ratepayer rubbish bags to last a whole year. Now you have a private rubbish bin that costs $5 a week. However our rates never went down any to reflect this situational change.
Fast forward to today and the above unfolded. Calling me a Fat Fuck' is not a nice way to start to start any social interaction but there it is in case any out there think I stared any unpleasantness. These two seem to hold the ratepayers property in high regard. As has been documented here, father and son can't keep their hands off my property, to wit - one camera. You will see both of these men interfering with this camera which can be used in a court of law as 100% proof of a crime being committed. Funny really when you witness zealots who profess a devotion to 'Law & Order' not obeying said law themselves, apart from their aggressive behavior which remains on the raw footage. I'm sure that especially at this time of year the New Zealand Police have enough on their plate. Over the holidays I'll have to think over whether to take these two and indeed the Byron Brown' Motor Camp to court.
No doubt there will be some in our little conservative country who think I overstepped the mark here. They are free to think so and I support their right to do so. Just as I support the rights of those who see what an expensive fuck up the Kapiti Coast District Council has become and been for many years now. Writing a letter to the two local papers has become a wasted exercise.
Anyway you watch and make your own judgement on who is right or wrong. Whichever way you swing, feel free to leave a comment...
