The Fürstenzug in Dresden, Germany, is a large mural of a mounted procession of the rulers of Saxony. It was originally painted between 1871 and 1876 to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Wettin Dynasty, Saxony's ruling family. In order to make the work weatherproof, it was replaced with approximately 23,000 Meissen porcelain tiles between 1904 and 1907. With a length of 102 metres (335 ft), it is known as the largest porcelain artwork in the world.
The mural displays the ancestral portraits of the 35 margraves, electors, dukes and kings of the House of Wettin between 1127 and 1904. The Fürstenzug is located on the outer wall of the Stallhof (Stables Courtyard) of Dresden Castle. By 1589, the outer wall of the recently built Stallhof (Stables Courtyard) of the Dresden Castle was already decorated with a fresco.
For the upcoming 800th anniversary of the House of Wettin in 1889, another stucco version of a large-scale mural was commissioned. It was painted by the artist Wilhelm Walther between 1871 and 1876. Since the picture rapidly deteriorated, it was replaced with about 23,000 Meissen porcelain tiles between 1904 and 1907. The mural depicts the 35 Saxon margraves, electors, dukes and kings from Conrad, Margrave of Meissen, who ruled in the 12th century, to George of Saxony who was king for only two years in the 20th century. The only ones missing are Heinrich I von Eilenburg (c. 1089) and the last king of Saxony, Frederick Augustus III, who ruled from 1904 to 1918. Also shown are 59 scientists, artisans, craftsmen, children and farmers.
The Fürstenzug is 101.9 metres (334 ft) long and 10.5 metres (34 ft) high. Due to 18 windows in the upper part, the tile area comprises only 968 square meters. Each tile measures 20.5 centimetres (8.1 in) by 20.5 centimetres (8.1 in). Hence, approximately 23,000 tiles are placed on the wall.

This 394-foot mural along the wall in the Royal Mews courtyard depicts a parade of Saxony rulers, some walking, others on horseback. Scratched into stucco by the artist in 1876, the mural was later recast onto porcelain tiles and, incredibly, survived the 1945 bombing of Dresden that destroyed most buildings.

This work is currently the world's largest ceramic wall painting originally made in the sgraffito technique by Wilhelm Walther. The painting was made to commemorate the 800-year history of Wettin dynasty, ruling Saxony in the years 1123-1918.
In 1872-1876, Wilhelm Walther transferred the sgraffito pattern from the cardboard to the wall of the courtyard belonging to the medieval complex of the royal residence in Dresden. Unfortunately, the chosen technique did not prove to be durable. This is why in the years 1906-1907 the decoration was moved to about 25,000 ceramic porcelain tiles. Its dimensions are 101.90 meters length, 10.51 meters height and an area of over 1,000 m².

After breakfast, travel to Dresden, long regarded as the most beautiful city in Germany. Dresden is located on the left bank of Elbe River. Got to enjoy sumptuous Pork Knuckle Lunch. After lunch, visited Dresden Christmas Market, Frauenkirche (famous Cathedral), Furstenzug (procession of princes), Royal Palace & Zwinger. Continued our journey to Prague, the capital of Czech Republic. Built along the Vitava River, the longest river in Czech Republic, Prague is also one of the most beautifully preserved cities in Europe.

This HD clip pans along a 102 metre mural called the Procession of Princes, located in Dresden, Germany. Due to being located on a cobbled street full of tourists, the innovative solution to obtain the shot was to photograph the wall in 19 sections, then stitch them together in Photoshop, before importing the panorama into Final Cut. This footage will appear in a planned documentary on Dresden, its art, culture and history.

Short trip to Dresden, Saxony, Germany (26.3.2016). I highly recommend to visit Staatliche Kunstsammlungen in Zwinger and Residenzschloss (Royal Palace). You will need more than one day but it's worth it!!!

This wall was not as damaged during World War II. It is comprised of thousands of painted Meissen porcelain mosaic tiles. The tiles are a special type of porcelain made in the Dresden area. The Procession of Princes pictures show several hundred years of rulers in Saxony, a region in Germany that was at one time an independent kingdom. You may be able to hear the tour guide in the background.
