GoPro Paragliding - Jumping off of Haleaka Volcano

Haleaka is the tallest mountain / volcano in the world from base to summit. If measured from its base at the bottom of the ocean, Haleaka is 50 feet taller than Mount Everest. Even though it hasn't erupted in 225 years, it is still considered an active volcano. 2015 just so happens to be the 25th anniversary of one of my favorite movies, Joe vs the Volcano. Choosing an active volcano as the site for my first time to paraglide seemed a fitting way to honor the movie. I highly recommend visiting Maui and Haleaka National Park. It is a phenomenally beautiful location and paragliding is a very unique way to experience it.

PARAGLIDING MAUI HALEAKALA VOLCANO JANUARY 2018

PARAGLIDING MAUI HALEAKALA VOLCANO -- OR -- HOW FAIRBANKIAN GLIDER PILOTS FLY IN THE WINTERTIME -- GO TO MAUI, OR THE BIG ISLE, OR KAUAI!

This ten minute video is a rough edit of two flights on two very different back to back days. The first day was 29.9, perfecto Golden middle zone air pressure. Thus ensued and committed flying related activities above and around forming cumulus clouds for half an hour, and could have flown longer, over a surreal tropical-desert volcano island para-dise. 8O)

Second flight next day was 30.0 high pressure and light winds. The weight of the air literally was pushing down so much as to suppress thermal activity. Also, the waves later that day were too small for surfing due in part to the heavy air. Interesting, eh?

Apologies for the low sound quality. My best intentions are to re-do the past few movies with HD sound.

Note the flying related lyrics, and super-riff-ic guitar playing of song writer David Wilcox. Yes, he has flown passenger in a hang glider and he wrote a song about it called On a Day When The Wind is Perfect. This song is featured on my previous video from 2009 (!) flying a PPG from Casey's Backyard Airpark during winter time.
