Merritt Island Mangos
Merritt Island Mangos - Did you know that the best mangos in the world come from Merritt Island Florida? I used to not even like mangoes until I tasted a mango from Merritt Island, but as soon as I did, I was hooked for life.
Mid July, which is right at the time this video is being made, is the season for these fruit treasures and unfortunately it is a very short season. It usually lasts from mid July to late September or about for 10 weeks which is very short. But, if you are lucky enough to catch that short window you are in for a treat like you won't believe.
Merritt Island mangoes are delicious and so smooth unlike some other stringy mangoes from I think Costa Rica or other countries further south. We have several varieties of mangoes that grow on Merritt Island including the Kent, Glenn mangos and the Haden mango. I believe the Haden mangoes are the best, but they are all fine fruit.
I don't know what it is, but I have nerve had a mango from anywhere else in the world that tasted as good and was a smooth as the ones we get right here in Merritt Island. The best place to get them is from groves on South Tropical Trail which is a narrow strip of land that has water on both sides. One side being the Indian River and the other being the Banana River, which is really the same body of water.
