Mile 37-38 Northbound: A Trail Runnner's Guide to the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail

Mile 37-38 of the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail begins 1/3 of a mile North of the PA Turnpike Bridge. I could hear the sound of the Turnpike throughout the entire mile as it became fainter and fainter. There are some hills, a bridge and a road crossing in this mile. The nearest access points are PA Route 31 (about 5.5 miles South) and the PW & S Railroad Grade (less than 1 mile North. All videos were filmed in 2016, with this one in July. The video was filmed in August 2016. It is usually 10 degrees cooler on Laurel Mountain than areas West of Chestnut Ridge. There's at least one road crossing, and I am also very chatty on this video.

You can find lots of interesting and colorful mushrooms and fungi on this section of the LHHT. I don't recommend eating them (unless you are very good at mushroom Identification, and like mushrooms). I don't eat any mushrooms.

Oct. 29, 2012-Here I am at Wilson-Tuscarora park on Lake Ontario. I could walk right up to the water here. The waves and the wind are from Hurrican Sandy. It might not be much compared to the southern states but it's a lot for us in Western New York.

2014: The Year of the Hike

29 State Parks, 8 State Forests, 14 County/City Parks, 5 Nature Conservancies, 2 National Parks, 2 National Forests, 2 National Heritage Areas and 1 National Wildlife Refuge all across 5 states. 2014 was very much the year of the hike for me. Included in this video are some photos of the incredible places I was lucky enough to see over the course of the year. Enjoy, but remember.... a photo can never truly capture the experience. Go out and explore your world!
