At the southwest corner of Phuket is Promthep Cape ( Laem Promthep ) also known as Sunset Point because of its spectacular sunset views. It is a popular place with Asian tour groups who congregate here from the late afternoon until sunset.
In one direction, there is a great view across Nai Harn Beach to the Royal Phuket Yacht Club. In the other direction is the dramatic cape jutting into the sea. For the adventurous, there is a footpath down to the end of the cape but watch your footing as you go.
Beyond the cape, you see Koh Kaeo and in the distance are the Koh Racha islands. There is a nice restaurant on the side of the hill where you can enjoy some food and drink while watching the sunset.
There are plenty of trinket shops, food stalls, etc by the car park. You can also visit the small lighthouse on top of the hill

Promthep Cape - Beaches in Phuket
Promthep Cape:
Promthep Cape
Promthep Cape at the southernmost point of Phuket island seems to be an absolutely irresistible spot for a good old-fashioned sunset photo. This landmark has always been the meeting point for a good hundred tourists, mostly Thai, to line up on the west facing coastline with cameras ready. Huge colorful buses download a horde of daily tourists hungry for a picture and the place starts buzzing with flash all directions. It's actually funny to see how many people take sunset photos with a flash!
With its elevated location and few small islands nearby, Promthep Cape is certainly a nice place to see a sunset, but it is not really amazing. Watching the crowd is almost more entertaining: most people are texting of playing facebook games while waiting for the six o'clock moment.
Promthep Cape cape is Phuket's symbol and you will recognize its tall sugar palms on car plates having a special number. In case you didn't know, you can buy a special 'lucky' number and your plate will be decorated with the symbol of the province.
If you feel courageous, and clearly not many do, walk all the way down to the end of the cape. It is quite easy to go there, but without training, on the way back you might wonder why did you have to inflict this to yourself.
Above Promthep Cape What is around to see Promthep cape? Not much, the Lighthouse, which is also a mini museum, doesn't display much to look at and even from the top doesn't offer any particular view. The shrine surrounded by hundreds of elephants statues and carvings in all sizes and colors is a lot nicer. You can't miss it. Car rent in Phuket #cars #auto #moto #4youautomanija
Promthep Cape - The place to watch the sunset in Phuket
Promthep Cape is Phuket's most southerly point and many locals and tourists (whole tour buses) will come here to enjoy the sunset. Beside the sunset you can have a look around and check out the shrine full of elephant's or the lighthouse. If you go there by scooter or motorbike you will enjoy the road back to Kata beach and even might find a better and more silent viewpoint on your way to watch the sunset.
NOTE: There is no alcohol allowed!
PROMTHEP CAPE -PHUKET THAILAND | SUNSET VIEWPOINT | RANKED #1 -THINGS TO DO IN PHUKET
Promthep Cape is one of the island's most photographed and perhaps best-known locations. Every evening, large tour buses, scooters and private cars sweep through Rawai Beach and up the island's southernmost hill in order to watch the sunset at its peak. On the top of the hill stands a busy car park where vehicles disgorge crowds of people from every corner of the world. Cameras flash, fingers point and lovers cuddle as Phuket's most fabulous free show is re-enacted nightly – the sunset.
For mementos of your visit, other than beautiful sunset photos, head to the market near the car park to pick up reasonably priced souvenirs such as batik fabric, sea shells and beachwear. Snacks and refreshments are also available.
Round your evening off at the Promthep Cape Restaurant. This open-air restaurant offers beautiful views of Nai Harn Beach. You can unwind and enjoy the peace once the crowds have dispersed, whilst dining on seafood, lulled by cooling evening breezes.
Promthep Cape is 30 minutes by car from Patong Beach. It is a short walk from the car park to the lighthouse, shrine and look-out area. As parking can be limited, travelling by bus or tuk-tuk is a good option if you plan to arrive late.
Seriuosly, You can't believe, at 5.45 the area was flooded with vehicles( cars, bikes and buses) with more tourists. People had great time with their family, few had their romantic time with their partners and few meditate for their peace.

Phuket Big Buddha and Promthep Cape Adventure
Big Buddha
Phuket's Big Buddha is one of the most important and revered landmarks on the island. The huge image sits on top of the Nakkerd Hills between Chalong and Kata and, at 45 metres tall, can be seen from as far away as Phuket Town and Karon Beach.
Close up to the Phuket Big Buddha itself, the atmosphere is very peaceful, the only sounds to hear being the tinkling of small bells and the fluttering of yellow Buddhist flags in the compound, with soft background dharma music.
Promthep Cape
Phuket’s Promthep Cape is one of the island's most photographed and perhaps best-known locations.
On the top of the hill stands a busy car park where vehicles disgorge crowds of people from every corner of the world. Cameras flash, fingers point and lovers cuddle as Phuket's most fabulous free show is re-enacted nightly – the sunset.
But is this all there is to it? Hardly; Promthep also has a lighthouse that houses interesting historical maritime artifacts and commands spectacular views over the east and southeast of the island and its environs. The lighthouse/museum is air conditioned inside and if you go up to the outdoors viewing balcony you can see the distinctive shapes of the Phi Phi Islands, Koh Racha Yai and Koh Racha Noi on a clear day and of course a whole raft of nearer islands such as nearby Koh Kiaow with its Buddhist monastery. The view from the cape is like a huge eternity pool from which you can mentally project the far-flung shores of Sri Lanka and the Indian Subcontinent. Some people make the rather demanding trek down to the end of the cape’s promontory but most stay up in the viewing part for sunset.
That is where we decided to adventure down to and man o man was that hike a work out!

Nai Harn Beach & Phromthep Cape - Phuket - Thailand
Video by
Nai Harn & Promthep Cape
The beaches and scenery in the south west of Phuket are well worth a visit. The beautiful Nai Harn Beach is not as crowded as many of the west coast beaches, and just a short drive over a mountain you can discover the famous viewpoint Promthep Cape.
Nai Harn Beach
The gorgeous Nai Harn Beach is tranquil and calm with no noisy jet skis or speed boats, just beautiful scenery, gentle waves lapping on the shore and yachts moored in the distant waters. A great destination for families where children can play in the sand and enjoy splashing around in the water.
Behind the beach visitors can pick up beach essentials and snacks from the food vendors with drinks, fresh fruit and barbecue chicken to name a few. Relax all day on the sun loungers, and enjoy a Thai massage at one of the massage huts a few steps away.
Promthep Cape
A well-known attraction in the south of Phuket is Promthep Cape where the most southernly tip of the island sinks into the deep blue Andaman Sea. Promthep Cape is where people flock at sunset to witness for themselves the fabulous postcard picture of the sun setting on another day in paradise.
As well as the enjoying the amazing views with the characteristic swaying palm trees, visitors can look around a small lighthouse museum and elephant shrine. Locals burn incense and pay their respects to Lord Buddha at the shrine, which has hundreds of elephants statues of all shapes and sizes.
