Maqam of Prophet Yusha Bin Nun Alaihisalam , Jordan-Salt Part 2 - 2
The shrine of Prophet Yusha (Joshua).
Within a mosque to the west of Salt, on a hill carrying his name lies the shrine of Prophet Yusha (Joshua) . He was the apprentice of Prophet Moses and later his successor. Prophet Joshua led the army of the tribes of Israel in conquest over the land of Palestine.
Southwest of Salt in an area known as Khirbet Ayyoub foundations of an ancient building mark the final resting place of Prophet Ayyoub Job who is mentioned in the Holy Quran four times. His legendary patience and faith gave him strength to endure tremendous hardships. Ultimately Prophet Job was rewarded with blessings, as stated in the Holy Quran (Sura 21, verses 83-84):
And (remember) Ayyoub, when He cried to his Lord, Truly distress has seized me, but Thou art the Most Merciful of those that are merciful. So We listened to him: We removed the distress that was on him, and We restored his people to him, and doubled their number, as a Grace from Ourselves, and a thing for commemoration, for all who serve Us.
A collection of stones marks the tomb of the venerable companion Maysarah bin Masrouq Al-'Abssi buried west of Salt in the town of 'Arda. He witnessed the Prophet's Farewell Pilgrimage and took part in the Battle of Yamamah and the conquest of Greater Syria. In the 20th year after Hijra, he became the commander of an army that successfully attacked the Byzantines, making them the first Muslim army to enter Byzantine lands.

Prophet Joshua's tomb in Jordan
History
Joshua was a popular leader, and possibly the prince, of the tribe of Ephraim at the time of the Exodus. A prominent figure in the flight from bondage and subsequent conquest of Canaan, he is arguably the third most important figure in the Book of Exodus after Moses and Aaron. He was one of Moses’ chief followers from the beginning, and was the only person to accompany him up onto Mount Sinai when God bestowed the Ten Commandments on the Israelite prophet.
Joshua’s service became even more important during the forty year sojourn in the wilderness. He served as both a military commander and a spy for the Israelites. Along with Caleb of the tribe of Judah, he advised the Israelites to invade Canaan from the south. Although they were voted down by the other tribes, it was their courage and leadership at this time which later led to the preeminence of the tribes of Ephraim and Judah. Throughout the rest of their lives, the two men were both friends and rivals, though Joshua was always the more prominent of the pair. Just before Moses died upon Mount Nebo, it was Joshua and not Caleb that he chose to lead the people into Canaan.
The subsequent military campaigns of Joshua in Canaan have since become legendary, beginning with his miraculous triumph over the mighty city of Jericho. Joshua spent the remainder of his years conquering the petty kingdoms of Canaan, dividing the lands among the Israelite tribes and overseeing the settlement of the cities of the territory of Ephraim. He established his own home at Timnath-Heres. There he later died and was buried in what was probably Israel’s first state funeral.
As much as Moses was the savior of the Israelites from their bondage in Egypt, Joshua was the great hero who united the people and established Israel as a nation. His tomb became a revered place, and was remembered and visited by pilgrims even in later years when the other great holy cities of Ephraim had waned in importance. The ancient town of Timnath-Heres, now the Palestian city of Kifl Hares, still receives many visitors at what is the arguably the greatest surviving shrine of the Exodus period.
Visiting
The Tomb of Joshua is a surprisingly unassuming place. Occupying only a small street corner in the middle of downtown Kifl Hares, it can be easily mistaken for a walled compound of a typical residence of the neighborhood, such as might belong to a local middle class citizen. Unfortunately, this sacred Jewish site is usually best recognized by the Arabic graffiti which is usually scrawled all over the outer walls.
The main building is a very simple affair: a white structure with a small dome, reminiscent of the Tomb of Rachel in Bethlehem. The grave of Joshua, and possibly several other prominent Exodus leaders, lie beneath the dome
Tombs of Prophets in Jordan- 2019
Many Prophets lived in Jordan and few of them are buried there. A visit to the Maqamat and a very brief story 4 Prophets has been shared. The lectures of Mufti Menk has been edited to suit the duration.
Tomb of Yusha (AS)
Within a mosque to the west of As-Salt JORDAN, on a hill carrying his name, lies the shrine of Prophet Yusha (Joshua)
Yusha (a.s.) a Prophet who was very close to Musa (a.s.) and took his place as the leader of the Bani Israil after his death. He is known as Joshua in the Bible.
Yusha (a.s.) was the great grandson of Prophet Yusuf (a.s.), his full name being Yusha bin Nun bin Afraeem bin Yusuf. Although he is not mentioned by name in the Holy Quran there are references made to him in two places.
After the Bani Israil fled bondage in Egypt and wandered the desert for 40 years Musa (a.s.) died close to Bayt al-Maqdis, often referred to as 'The Promised Land'. Yusha (a.s.) took over and led the Bani Israil over the River Jordan and into the surroundings of Jericho (also known locally as Ariha). It was a splendid city with large palaces. He laid siege over it for six months and then with a final push, raising the takbeer, he led his army in and conquered it.
It is said that when they were about to take the city of Jerusalem it was on a Friday at Asr time. The sunset was close approaching which would subject them to the observance of the sabbath (on Saturday), meaning that they would have had to cease fighting. Yusha (a.s.) addressed the sun that it was under a command while he was under another command and he prayed to Allah, O Allah, hold it back from setting!. It was stopped till Allah made him victorious.
A hadith has been narrated from Abu Hurairah (r.a.) that the Prophet (s.a.w.) said, Surely, the sun has never been stopped from setting down for a human being except for Yusha (a.s.) on the evening he invaded the Bayt al-Maqdis.
The Bani Israil lived in the Bayt al-Maqdis for some time and Yusha (a.s.) taught them the Torah and ruled according to it. He lived for 127 years.

Joshua (/ˈdʒɒʃuə/) or Jehoshua (Hebrew: יְהוֹשֻׁעַ Yehoshuʿa)[a] is the central figure in the Hebrew Bible's Book of Joshua. According to the books of Exodus, Numbers and Joshua, he was Moses' assistant and became the leader of the Israelite tribes after the death of Moses.[3] His name was Hoshea (הוֹשֵׁעַ) the son of Nun, of the tribe of Ephraim, but Moses called him Joshua (Numbers 13:16), the name by which he is commonly known. According to the Bible he was born in Egypt prior to the Exodus.[2]
According to the Hebrew Bible, Joshua was one of the twelve spies of Israel sent by Moses to explore the land of Canaan. In Numbers 13:1–16, and after the death of Moses, he led the Israelite tribes in the conquest of Canaan, and allocated the land to the tribes. According to biblical chronology, Joshua lived some time in the Bronze Age. According to Joshua 24:29, Joshua died at the age of 110.
Joshua also holds a position of respect among Muslims. According to Islamic tradition, he was, along with Caleb, one of the two believing spies whom Moses had sent to spy the land of Canaan.[4] Muslims also see Joshua as the leader of the Israelites following the death of Moses. Some Muslims also believe Joshua to be the attendant of Moses mentioned in the Quran before Moses meets Khidr. Joshua plays a role in Islamic literature with significant narration in the hadith.
Joshua (Arabic: يُوشَعُ بْنُ نُونٍ Yûshaʿ-u bn-u Nûn-in juːʃaw bin nuːn) is not mentioned by name in the Quran, but his name appears in other Islamic literature. In the Quranic account of the conquest of Canaan, Joshua and Caleb are referenced, but not named, as two Allah-fearing men, on whom God had bestowed His grace.[48]
They said, Moses, there is a fearsome people in this land. We will not go there until they leave. If they leave, then we will enter. Yet the two men whom God had blessed among those who were afraid said, Go in to them through the gate and when you go in you will overcome them. If you are true believers, put your trust in God.
— Qur'an, sura 5 (Al-Ma'ida), ayah 22–23, Haleem translation[49]
Joshua was regarded by some classical scholars as the prophetic successor to Moses (موسى).[50] Tabari relates in his History of the Prophets and Kings that Joshua was one of the twelve spies and Muslim scholars believe that the two believing spies referred to in the Qur’ān are Joshua and Caleb. Joshua was exceptional among the Israelites for being one of the few faithful followers of Allah.
Joshua is further mentioned in Islamic literature, and significant events from his Muslim narratives include the crossing of the Jordan river and the conquest of Bait al-Maqdis.[51]
The traditional Muslim commentary al-Jalalayn says, Ahmad [b. Hanbal] reported in his Musnad, the [following] hadīth, 'The sun was never detained for any human, except for Joshua during those days in which he marched towards the Holy House [of Jerusalem]'.[52]
Muslim literature includes traditions of Joshua not found in the Hebrew Bible. Joshua is credited with being present at Moses's death and literature records that Moses's garments were with Joshua at the time of his departure.[53] In Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, Joshua is mentioned as Yusha' bin Nun and is the attendant to Moses during his meeting with Khidr.[54][55][56]
Ali ibn Abi Talib, the cousin of Muhammad, was asked about the prophets that had special names. He narrates in Hadith that Yusha' ibn Nun was known as Dhu al-Kifl.[57]
Joshua is believed by some Muslims to be buried on Joshua's Hill in the Beykoz district of Istanbul.[58] Alternative traditional sites for his tomb are situated in Israel (the Shia shrine at Al-Nabi Yusha'), Jordan (An-Nabi Yusha’ bin Noon, a Sunni shrine near the city of Al-Salt[59][60]), Iran (Historical cemetery of Takht e Foolad in Esfahan)[citation needed] and Iraq (the Nabi Yusha' shrine of Baghdad[59]).

(Israelnationalnews.com) Jews in Samaria worked at resettling former Jewish communities while celebrating Purim this year, and activists spent the holiday at the sites of Homesh and Sa-Nur, two of the communities demolished in the 2005 Disengagement that resulted in the eviction of Jews from 25 towns in northern Samaria and the Gaza region.
Jews who were expelled from the two towns, members of the Homesh First activist group that has maintained a steady presence in Homesh for two years and others held a Megillat Esther (Book of Esther) reading at the site on Saturday night despite heavy rains.
Residents expressed hope that by next year, both Homesh and Sa-Nur would be rebuilt. We are encouraged by the growing public and political support for fixing the mistake of the Disengagement, said activist Yossi Dagan.
A second megillah reading was held at the tomb of Yehoshua bin Nun (Joshua), located in Kfar Hares in Samaria. A large group of celebrants who included Regional Council head Gershon Mesika and regional IDF officers took part in the reading.
