???? ABOUT THIS VID! ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Here's the thing... although Barcelona, Spain is famous for its food, it can actually be a really tough place to eat well. That's because there are so many tourist trap tapas bars out there serving soulless, flavourless junk. And it can be really difficult to find the great places.
But fear not, having spent a lot of time in this city, I've finally narrowed down a list of 8 of the best tapas bars in the city. These places will not disappoint - great food, excellent wines and full of soul.
So, I hope you enjoy this tapas tour of Barcelona's best tapas bars, which I did recently with two my colleagues from Devour Tours - my fellow Devour Tours co-founder Lauren Aloise (check out her Spanish food blog: and Devour's marketing director Katie Stearns. Together we tackled 8 top tapas bars on what was an epic tapas tour and also a wine tour (we tried vermouth, white wine, red wine and even Spanish dessert wine). So, if you´re coming to Barcelona, check out this video so you don't wind up stumbling into a tourist traps.
The bars we hit were:
1. Bodegas Maestrazgo
2. Bodega Puntual
3. El Chigre
4. La Viña del Señor
5. Bar del Pla
6. Bar Brutal
7. Bar La Plata
8. Bodega La Palma

3. VIDEO GUIDE ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Calle Cava Baja is a fantastic street for a tapas crawl in Madrid. It’s got about 50 tapas bars in just one street, and is in the heart of the famous La Latina neighbourhood. But with so many tapas bars, how can you pick the good from the bad? That’s where this video comes in? Yoly and I decided to hit 7 of our favourites.
Here is Calle Cava Baja on a map:
1. Taberna La Concha: I love this spot for a pre-lunch vermouth. They make their own vermouth, and serve it with a few extra ingredients to give it extra kick. They always pair it with a delicious tapa. And their cooked tapas and wine list are also excellent. A great start!
2. Diaz y Larrouy: The wine bar has been around since 1992 and so is one of the grandfather’s of this street. They have 30-40 wines per glass, and serve delicious tostas. An excellent option for cava by the glass.
3. La Posada de la Villa: There has been a posada (or inn) here since 1642, and I adore hitting the bar in this old tavern. It’s more of a restaurant, but the bar is a great place to grab a glass and even just enjoy the free tapa. It’s just full of history!
4. La Posada del Dragón: These guys do more modern tapas, and I love their tomato salad. But beyond the food, this place is extra special as beneath the glass floor you can see the remains of the medieval walls that once surrounded Madrid.
Honourable mention: La Perejila - great little tapas bar that just didn’t make the final cut.
5. Casa Lucas: Famous on Calle Cava Baja. This place is always packed, but does delicious modern tapas and tostas, and they have an excellent wine list. Don’t worry if you can’t get a table - just squeeze on up at the bar!
6. Taberna Tempranillo: Another classic wine bar that’s been around for a number of years. These guys do an eclectic selection of modern dishes, as well as tostas. And of course great wine by the glass. Also - the wine rack against the back wall is spectacular!
7. Los Huevos de Lucio: Opposite is a famous restaurant called Casa Lucio. And in that restaurant they’re famous for their huevos estrellados (aka. Huevos rotos or broken eggs). Opposite Los Huevos de Lucio is their tavern, and you can get the same dish there. It’s simple, but it’s delicious!

3. EPIC PINTXOS IN SAN SEBASTIAN! ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
When you go to San Sebastian, it’s all about eating pintxos (the local form of tapas). The pintxo bars in this city are incredible. But the historic centre can get really busy. So in this video, my Devour Tours co-founder Lauren and I head to the neighbourhood of Gros (only a 10 minute walk from the history centre) and visit 9 of the best local pintxo bars there.
At each of the 9 places we try the specialty pintxo - everything from foie, to anchovies, to cured pork belly, to cod, to the most amazing fresh tomatoes and even dessert. And in each of the 9 pintxo bars, we’re largely surrounded by locals. So this gives us a great insight into the true local pintxo culture.
I give lots of tips for how to navigate a pinxto bar. And I also show you all the local drinks you should be enjoying with your pintxos. From the local white wine Txakoli, to super dry Basque cider to Rioja (from just 2 hours north), you’ll really get the low down and what drinks to pair with your pintxos!

LEAD IN:
Two weeks into one of Europe's strictest smoking bans, how are Spanish smokers coming to terms with the new rules?
In a country famed for its bustling, smoky tapas bars - the new regulations have received mixed reactions.
STORYLINE:
Spanish smokers are still puffing away in public - but their freedom to light up is now more restricted than ever.
Since January 2 this year (2011) new restrictions have been added to the country's existing smoking ban.
Smoking outside is now banned around entrances to schools and hospitals, and even in parks and open-air children's playgrounds.
Smokers can still puff away on outdoor terraces - a feature of many Spanish bars - but not indoors.
The Spanish government was keen to snub out its dubious reputation of having the most lenient smoking laws in western Europe.
The law prohibits smoking in enclosed public places with some exceptions for jails, psychiatric institutions and retirement homes.
Hotels are allowed to reserve 30 percent of their rooms for smokers.
Parliament approved an anti-smoking law in 2006 which prohibited smoking in the workplace, but allowed bar and restaurant owners with premises under 100 square metres (1,100 square feet) to decide whether or not to allow smoking - the overwhelming majority permitted it.
Anti-smoking campaigners condemned it as a failure.
For him the newly enhanced law is a big improvement.
