EN: The Puente Nuevo (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈpwente ˈnweβo], New Bridge) is the newest and largest of three bridges that span the 120-metre (390 ft)-deep chasm that carries the Guadalevín River and divides the city of Ronda, in southern Spain. The architect was José Martin de Aldehuela, who died in Málaga in 1802. The chief builder was Juan Antonio Díaz Machuca.
The construction was started in 1751 and took 42 years to build. Fifty workers were killed during its construction. There is a chamber above the central arch that was used for a variety of purposes, including as a prison. During the 1936-1939 civil war both sides allegedly used the prison as a torture chamber for captured opponents, killing some by throwing them from the windows to the rocks at the bottom of the El Tajo gorge. The chamber is entered through a square building that was once the guard-house. It now contains an exhibition describing the bridge's history and construction.

Discover Ronda Spain and the Famous Puente Nueva Bridge : 80+ Countries w/3 Kids
Who doesn’t know the famous image of the old bridge of Ronda? It is iconic of the pueblos blancos (the white villages) of southern Spain and seeing this bridge is on the bucket list of many travelers.
The Puente Nueva Bridge (New Bridge) was built in 1793 AD and connects Ronda from Moorish times with the more modern village of Ronda. Both parts of Ronda are divided by the El Tajo Canyon and the river Guadalevín. The New Bridge is one of three bridges in Ronda. You can also find the Roman Bridge (Puente Romano or Puente San Miguel) and the Old Bridge (Puente Árabe or Arab Bridge).

The Amazing Ronda, Spain! Puente Nuevo New Bridge Best Places to Visit in Spain
The Summer 2018 road trip continues to the amazing city of Ronda, Spain! For years Ronda has been a favorite of mine and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to go back. The historic Puente Nuevo bridge spans a four hundred foot gorge and connects the two sides of the beautiful city, offering stunning views for the many tourists that roll through the town to take in its majesty.
The cliffwalk starts at the edge of the Old Town and continues on past the bullring -- bringing you to the main attraction, the old bridge itself. You can explore inside the bridge, but of course, the views from the outside will take your breath away.
We manage to find our way down into the chasm, with a few dangerous trails involved, offering some magnificent panoramic views of the bridge and the cliff-side city from below.
Any holiday to Spain should include a tirp to Ronda, especially if Spanish History is your thing. If you like some beautiful countryside, too, then the drive in to Ronda will delight you. Not too much over an hour from the Costa del Sol,we drive the mountain roads which lead into Ronda - and you can drive along with us to open this video!

Visit Ronda Andalusian City in Spain
Ronda is a city in the Spanish province of Málaga. It is located about 100 kilometres (62 mi) west of the city of Málaga, within the autonomous community of Andalusia. Its population is approximately 35,000 inhabitants.
Ronda is situated in a very mountainous area about 750 m above mean sea level. The Guadalevín River runs through the city, dividing it in two and carving out the steep, 100 plus meters deep El Tajo canyon upon which the city perches. The Spanish Fir (Abies pinsapo) is endemic to the mountains surrounding Ronda.

Three bridges, Puente Romano (Roman Bridge, also known as the Puente San Miguel), Puente Viejo (Old Bridge, also known as the Puente Árabe or Arab Bridge) and Puente Nuevo (New Bridge), span the canyon. The term nuevo is a bit of a misnomer, as the building of this bridge commenced in 1751 and took until 1793 to complete. The Puente Nuevo is the tallest of the bridges, towering 120 metres (390 ft) above the canyon floor, and all three serve as some of the city's most impressive features. The former town hall, which sits next to the Puente Nuevo, is the site of a parador, and has a view of the Tajo canyon.
The ‘Corrida Goyesca’ is a unique and historical bullfight that takes place once a year in Ronda in the Plaza de toros de Ronda, the oldest bullfighting ring in Spain.[4] It was built in 1784 in the Neoclassical style by the architect José Martin de Aldehuela, who also designed the Puente Nuevo.
The partially intact Baños árabes (Arab baths) are found below the city and date back to the 13th and 14th centuries.

The Puente Nuevo Bridge is also called the New Bridge since it is the newer of the 3 bridges that span the El Tajo Gorge (and Guadalevín River). It is a stunning piece of work and the views from it are spectacular, as are the views below looking up toward the bridge. We spent 3 wonderful days in Ronda and this was definitely one of the major highlights of the trip.

El Puente Nuevo constituye, junto con la Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza de Caballería de Ronda, el símbolo y el alma de la ciudad.
Hubo dos grandes proyectos para la realización de esta obra. El primero del año 1735, reinando Felipe Quinto, que consistió en un arco de 35 metros de diámetro, cuyas obras duraron tan sólo 8 meses, pero que resultó infructuoso pues seis años después se derrumbó, ocasionando la muerte a unas 50 personas aproximadamente.
Pocos años más tarde comenzaron las obras, concretamente en 1751 y finalizaron en Mayo de 1793, coincidiendo con la celebración de la Real Feria de Mayo en Ronda. En total se invirtieron más de 40 años, estando al frente de las mismas el arquitecto Don José Martín de Aldehuela, natural del pueblo turolense de Manzanera.
Esta obra maestra de 98 metros de altura, construida en sillares de piedra extraídos del fondo de la garganta del Tajo, permitió la conexión del barrio moderno o del Mercadillo con el barrio antiguo de la ciudad y posibilitó la expansión urbanística de la ciudad. Desde sus balcones, las vistas de las casas colgando sobre el mismo borde del precipicio son espectaculares. Tiene tres cuerpos formado por arcos de medio punto; el inferior hace de estribo; el segundo es de gran tamaño, flanqueado por dos contrafuertes, de los que arrancan los arcos de las calles laterales del cuerpo superior. La calle central es un recinto con bóveda de cañón con dos balcones.
Este majestuoso monumento alberga en su interior un moderno concepto de Centro de Interpretación sobre esta magna obra de ingeniería dieciochesca y sobre los diferentes aspectos de su entorno: fauna, vegetación, geología, urbanismo, historia, etc. Además, nos permite percibir un interesante montaje audiovisual, el cual, en tan sólo 4 minutos, nos hace disfrutar de una serie de imágenes relacionadas con el Puente y la ciudad.
