Review: Hotel Costa Calero (Jet2Holidays All-Inclusive), Puerto Calero, Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain - September 2018.

I stayed all-inclusive at the Hotel Costa Calero in Puerto Calero, Lanzarote in September 2018, this was as part of a package holiday with Jet2Holidays, which cost £764 per person, and included return flights from Leeds to Lanzarote, return airport transfers from Lanzarote airport to the hotel, full-board food, all-inclusive drinks until 01:00, which included some premium brands, a full entertainment program, and one free entry into the hotel's Thalasso and Spa. The package holiday price was very good, and much cheaper than booking flights and hotel separately.

The hotel room was very nice and comfortable, although a little dated decor wise. The bathroom had a shower over the bath, and I would have preferred a shower cubicle. The toilet was also poorly positioned up against a wall underneath a hairdryer. Other than those minor negatives the room I was in (255) was very good with a nice balcony and good pool view.

The film includes views of the hotel building, reception, lobby, a detailed room inspection of room 255, extensive views of the hotel grounds and fantastic swimming pools, the Thalasso ans Spa, all of the bars, restaurants, example breakfast buffet, example lunch buffet, example dinner buffet, the entertainment, and a look at one of the newly refurbished Select Junior Suites (room 468).

This is a really great hotel and I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for good quality all-inclusive food and drink, friendly staff and brilliant swimming pools.

My biggest gripe about this hotel is that the main restaurant, has a sexist dress code policy for evening meals, requiring men to wear full-length or 3/4 length trousers, where as women can wear whatever the like, including shorts and vests. This outdated and discriminatory rule needs to be scrapped.

With that said I would definitely still consider this hotel again in future.

Pluses:
Bed was comfortable. We had a Junior Suite and it had plenty of room. Excellent balcony with good views to south and west.
Compelled to write a review and I've seen many luxurious places, but this one is outstanding. All around 5 star, from staff, service, facilities, thoughtfulness, comfort - you name it. Rooms are huge and comfortable. Most restaurants are stellar. We were travelling with 3 and 2 year olds, and the accommodation and entertainment is second to none. Well done, miss being there already.
Minuses:
Princess Yaiza buffet was often closed for breakfast even though there was plenty of space inside. It was the only one of the three restaurants that served proper decaff coffee at breakfast. We shouldn't have had to pay an extra €30 for a 15.30 checkout
I find it hard to find fault but I did think the scrambled eggs were just a bit dry, they were basically the omlette mix whisked in the pan. It was also disappointing that there was no crockery or cutlery or a tea towel in the suite, apart from a cup and saucer.

Lanzarote ist eine der sieben kanarischen Inseln und wie auch die anderen ein Segelparadies. Viele schöne Ankerbuchten und Häfen rund um Lanzarote und Fuerteventura versprechen einen genussvollen Segelurlaub. Aufgrund seiner ausgeglichenen und milden Wetterverhältnisse ist Lanzarote ein ideales Urlaubsziel für das ganze Jahr und ein Paradies für Segler. Im Januar liegen die Lufttemperaturen um die 16 Grad, im August bei angenehmen 24 Grad. Die Wassertemperaturen betragen im Winter etwa 17 Grad und im Sommer 22 Grad. Segeln ist auf Lanzarote auch dank der konstanten und kräftigen Passatwinde ganzjährig möglich.

Die zu Spanien gehörige Vulkaninsel ist 1000 Kilometer vom europäischen Festland entfernt und hat 213 Küstenkilometer, größtenteils felsige Steilküsten. Das Landschaftsbild ist geprägt von Kratern, erkalteter Lava und Gebirgsketten. Die UNESCO hat Lanzarote im Jahr 1993 vollständig zum Biospärenreservat erklärt.

Vor der traumhaften Kulisse der Küste Lanzarotes wird jeder Segeltörn zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis. Je nach Vorliebe und Erfahrung findet hier jeder Segler Gewässer vor, die seinen Bedürfnissen entsprechen. In manchen Buchten herrscht sehr ruhiger Seegang, andernorts sorgen starke Winde für ordentliche Wellen. Generell ist es an der Westküste windiger als im Osten.

An der südwestlichen Küste gibt es Häfen in Playa Blanca, Puerto Calero und in der Hauptstadt Arrecife. Die Marina Puerto Calero befindet sich nur 10 km vom Flughafen entfernt an der malerischen Costa Calero und bietet viele Anlegeplätze sowie einen umfangreichen Service. Im Süden Lanzarotes Playa Blanca liegt die Marina Rubicon, die Platz für 500 Sportboote bietet. Auch hier finden Segelfreunde allen modernen Komfort. Auf der Nachbarinsel La Graciosa befindet sich außerdem der wunderschöne Hafen Caleta.

Darüber hinaus gibt es entlang der Küste noch zahlreiche Buchten zum Ankern, beispielsweise in der Nähe der sehr beliebten Papagayo-Strände im Süden der Insel sowie an der Playa Francesa auf La Graciosa. Der größte Strand auf Lanzarote befindet sich beim größten Touristenort Puerto del Carmens, der ideal für den Badeurlaub ist. Durch seine Lage ist er sehr windgeschützt und er bietet außerdem zudem ein großes Angebot an Wassersportarten. Eine starke Brandung herrscht dagegen am oft windigen Janubio Strand, einem ca. 800 Meter langen, schwarzen Naturstrand an der Südwestküste.

Femés, eternamente olvidado

A pesar de que es el lugar más emblemático de la isla, únicamente parece perdurar en los libros de historia.
Femés es el gran olvidado de Lanzarote, casi un pueblo fantasma en donde falta de todo: los jóvenes no tienen alternativas de ocio, no hay instalaciones deportivas, falta un centro sociocultural, no existen reclamos para los turistas que visitan el pueblo y tampoco se reconoce la importancia de su Santo y Patrón San Marcial del Rubicón.
Desde Ciudadanos Yaiza queremos situar a ese representativo paraje en el lugar que le corresponde, no solo debido porque sus habitantes merecen toda la atención sino porque Femés es parte de la historia de Lanzarote.

Lanzarote

Situated just 79 miles off the coast of Africa, Lanzarote is the most easterly of the Canary Islands. The island is 37 miles (60km) long and 12 miles (20 km) wide, making it the fourth largest island in the Canaries.


Lanzarote Climate
Lanzarote enjoys a mild dry climate with average daytime temperatures ranging from about 21°C in January to 29°C in August. With total annual rainfall at just just 140mm (5.5 inches), Lanzarote is the perfect year-round holiday destination.


Volcanic Origins
As with the other Canary Islands, Lanzarote is Volcanic in origin. Due to the recent eruptions during the 18th and 19th Centuries, many parts of Lanzarote appear to be from another world, often described as 'lunar' or 'Martian'.
The dry climate (and lack of erosion) means that the Volcanic Landscape appears much as it did just after the eruptions.

Amongst the many stunning Volcanic features of Lanzarote is the longest Volcanic Tunnel in the world, the Atlantida Tunnel, which is over 7 km long and includes the La Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua.

Despite the Volcanic nature of the island, Lanzarote has several beautiful white beaches such as those at Playa Blanca, Papagayo and Caleton Blanco.

For the more active, the island offers great surf at Famara, windsurfing at Costa Teguise and world-class sports training facilities at La Santa Sport. Local authority regulations on the amount and style of development mean that there is no billboard advertising and no high rise buildings in Lanzarote (with the exception of the Grand Hotel in Arrecife).
