A look set to music at the largest structure in Polynesia, the basalt Pulemelei Pyramid Mound(Tia Seu Ancient Mound) Not much known on the original purpose and guesses when in was built. Located in Letolo Plantation, Palauli district, Savai'i Island in Western Samoa. I share three good websites. Links below.

This is the largest stone structure in the Pacific. Located on the island of Savaii, it is so ancient that people arent sure what it is anymore. But its bigger than any Heiau in Hawaii and the top is about half a football field in size.

Ancient Pyramid Discovery Deep in the Jungles of Samoa
Since the 1800s rumours have circulated about an ancient pyramid, built on an immense scale, hidden deep in the jungles of Samoa. Evidence perhaps of a great forgotten Pacific Empire. 1. The Pulemelei Mound or Star Pyramid which is Samoa’s own Ancient Pyramid, is situated on the Island of Savai’i was built between 1100-1400 AD and was no longer used by 1700-1800 AD.
2. Samoa only has one city – Apia, which is also the capital of Samoa since 1959. Apia Harbor is by far the largest and busiest harbor in Samoa.
3. In Samoa, it is acceptable for a family who has too many sons, to raise the youngest boy as a daughter. He is known as a fa’afafine and is given a girl’s name and wears feminine clothing… and is even allowed to use the ladies bathroom. A recognized gender identity/gender role since at least the early 20th century in Samoan society, and some theorize an integral part of traditional Samoan culture fa'afafine are male at birth, and explicitly embody both masculine and feminine gender traits, fashioned in a way unique to this part of the world.
4. Traditionally called Tatua, tattooing has long been a beautiful form of culture present on the island. The process of creating a true Samoan Tatua is arduous. The design is not simply something you pick from a design book, but rather is a piece of artwork that must be catered to the individual. Applying the Tatua to the skin is painstakingly time consuming and incredible difficult due to the various intricacies in the design.
5. Samoa is a traditional society governed by Fa’a Samoa (the Samoan Way) - where family is all important, respect of elders is strictly adhered to, and being of service to your family is your duty. The Samoan culture and way of life is over 3000 years old and has been preserved by the isolation of the tiny island on which it was born.
6. The traditional living quarters, or fale (houses), contain no walls and up to 20 people may sleep on the ground in the same fale.
7. Samoa’s official name is the Independent State of Samoa or Malo Sa 'oloto Tuto 'atasi o Sāmoa. The Samoan language is Polynesian, so don’t expect to understand it right from the get-go. With 510,000 people as native speakers worldwide, Samoan is the most prominent of the 40 Polynesian languages.

In the Samoan archipelago, experts are using new technology to unlock the ancient secrets of a long-lost pyramid.
Hidden deep in Samoa’s thick jungles, along almost impassible rocky footpaths lie what archaeologists have called the South Pacific’s best-kept secret: star mounds. Around 80 of these ancient, star-shaped platforms have sat abandoned for around 300 years, and even after excavation, their significance continues to baffle experts. Now, though, archaeologists and historians are using the largest of these stone marvels to challenge previously held beliefs about Samoan history.
At 12m high and with a base of 65m by 60m, Pulemelei Mound, which is located on the Samoan island of Savai’i, is one the oldest and largest structures in Polynesia. Often referred to as a pyramid despite its flat top, Pulemelei Mound was most likely built in stages starting in 1,000 CE, and the structure contains eight points, or cogs, giving it the look of a star from above. It is almost squarely oriented with the points of the compass and is surrounded by several smaller mounds.
While some locals and experts believe that the pyramid was used for pigeon-snaring competitions, religious ceremonies or meetings, or as a burial monument or lookout platform, no-one has been able to pinpoint its actual significance. But now, new laser mapping of the area surrounding Pulemelei Mound has recently provided a vital clue to archaeologists.
A vast network of ruins was discovered beneath the area in a 2002-to-2004 excavation, and experts believe it is evidence of an entire pre-colonial settlement that flourished before European discovery in 1722. Experts also say that this new discovery proves that Samoa’s population before colonialism was far larger than previously thought, and they now suggest that the Samoan population mortality rate following colonialism was around 80 to 90% in some areas, a steep and shocking increase from the 20-to-50% estimate that was previously accepted.
