Vlog #25: Stavanger, Norway || KJERAGBOLTEN & PULPIT ROCK
Days 90 - 92
We flew with Scandinavian Airlines from London to Stavanger. We stayed at Stavanger Lille Hotel. On our first day we went with a tour bus that left from Stavanger. It took us to Øygardstøl and from there we hiked to Kjerag. We got to see the amazing Kjeragbolten and to have the unforgettable experience of standing on it!
The following day we did another tour where we firstly caught the ferry, and then the bus to start the Preikestolen hike. The scenery was beautiful. We started the hike walking through fog, but as we got higher up we were higher than the clouds, which gave some breathtaking views. We eventually made it to Pulpit Rock, and spent some time there before returning to Scavenger.

Have you ever considered visiting Norway? This video shows you magnificent parts of Norway. Stave churces in Telemark, fjords, the pittoresque valley of Dalen, the Travellers' Choice 2015 top rated hotel Dalen, the famous Pulpit Rock - Preikestolen, and the beautiful city of Stavanger.
Come and visit Norway!
The video first shows parts of the county of Telemark. Telemark is located in southeastern Norway, extending from Hardangervidda to the Skagerrak coast. Telemark has a very broken and heterogeneous landscape, including many hills and valleys. In this video we show you two of Norway's many stave churches, Eidsborg stave church and Heddal stave church. Eidsborg stave church.
Eidsborg Stave Church is one of the best preserved Norwegian stave churches. Eidsborg Stave Church is located next to the Vest-Telemark Museum in Eidsborg, near the municipality Tokke, near Dalen.
On the steep mountain over Dalen lies Rui, the cotter's farm where the tiny sisters Ingrine and Gurine lived. The became famous across the land as the Rui girls who came to the King (from Visit Telemark
In Dalen you also find the beautiful and luxurious hotel Dalen. Dalen Hotel is a historic hotel in Dalen in the municipality of Tokke in Telemark county, Norway. The luxury Dalen Hotel, once a popular locale for European royalty, is one of the largest wooden buildings in Norway and one of the best preserved hotels of its size from the 1800s.
The hotel is located in eastern Dalen on the shores of Bandak lake. The hotel owners operate a ferry service along the Telemark Canal, which during the warmer seasons has daily trips between Skien and Dalen on the historic passenger ships MS Henrik Ibsen and MS Victoria. The hotel can also be accessed by road on Fylkesvei 38 and 45, which extends down from E134 to the north. (Wikipedia:
Next, the video takes you to the county of Rogaland. Visit Stavanger city, or travel to Tau by ferry to the mountains to reach the Pulpit Rock. Access to Preikestolen from Stavanger is via the RV13 road and the ferry from Tau.
A round-trip hike to Preikestolen from the closest car park takes about 3–4 hours for someone of average fitness.
The walk to Preikestolen is very steep in places. The path starts at the Preikestolhytta, at an elevation of approximately 270 metres (886 feet) above sea level, and climbs to 604 metres (1982 feet). The hike takes 1–3 hours depending on experience and fitness level. Even though the elevation differential is only 334 metres (1096 feet) and the walk is not particularly long (3.8 km each way), the total elevation gain and loss over the course of the hike is more than one might initially expect, as the path climbs and descends various ridges (Wikipedia:

The video shows the staggering contrast between two hikes at the same location!
Hike 1 - what an experience ... rain started pouring down, the weather frequently changed as we ascended, it was as if we were in a series of weather systems … the rain turned to sleet, the sleet became larger and felt like hail before we were walking through light snow.
Hike 2 - absolutely stunning, perfect weather conditions and one of the most spectacular experiences!

Hike to The Pulpit Rock (PREIKESTOLEN, NORWAY): Is it a risky and terrifying type of adventure?
#preikestolen #pulpitrocknorway #hikinginnorway #hiking #hikingadventure
This video is about me and my friend Eunice adventure to Preikestolen last July 2015.
Looking out over the Lysefjord from the Pulpit Rock (also known as Preikestolen) is an experience of a lifetime.
IF YOUĹL ASK ME IF IT IS A RISKY AND TERRIFYING TYPE OF ACTIVITY... For me, NO. I have no fear of heights and has been to other mountains here in Norway which are more challenging. PLEASE CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO AND SEE IT FOR YOURSELF for you to decide if this activity is good for you or not.
The hike to Preikestolen is a total of eight kilometres and the round trip takes four hours. The hike has an elevation gain of about 500 metres, and some sections are steep. As the hike is graded as medium difficult, you should have some experience from trekking in rough terrain before embarking on this trip. Preikestolen can now be visited all year round. The summer season extends from April to October/November. During the winter season and on days with rough weather, it is very important to follow the advice of the Preikestolen staff in the parking lot.
Even if sunshine and fair weather are predicted, the weather conditions can change quickly. Always check the weather forecast before you start your trip, and talk to the locals about what kind of weather to expect. They will often know if there is a risk of rain and windy conditions even if the weather forecast is promising.
Do this:
Research the length, duration, and recommended physical conditioning for the hike you want to do.
Check the weather conditions and always listen to local mountain residents.
Buy or rent the right equipment for your trip.
Always bring enough food, drinks, and an extra change of clothes in your backpack.
Check out the possibility of joining a guided tour.
Avoid this:
Don’t wear jeans, trainers, or other everyday clothing.
Don’t start your trip too late in the day, as you might risk having to hike in the dark.
Never start your mountain hike without being in good enough physical shape.
Don’t depend on a map on your mobile device as there is not always coverage in the mountains.
Don’t leave anything, including trash, behind.

Preikestolen or Pulpit Rock is a famous tourist attraction in Norway. Towers 604 meters over the Lysefjord. It's one of Rogaland county's most visited destination and one of the best hikes in Norway.
The main hiking season for Pulpit Rock is from April to October and it'll take around four to five hours. It does get VERY crowded so try to arrive early in the morning.
After experiencing the hike I don't think it's the easiest but it is doable. Take breaks and bring water. It's all uphill so expect steep, steep steps. Right at the start it's all stairs!
Know that you can also experience Preikestolen from a fjord sightseeing boat or a car ferry.
During most of our time in Norway we stayed at Airbnbs (homes/rooms rented out by their owners). Airbnb is a WAYYY cheaper alternative to hotels. And you'll find in Norway - it's the way to go. Here's $40 free credit to get you started →

Pulpit Rock Norway
Pulpit Rock also known as Preikestolen is located in Norway near Stavenger. We climbed the rock a hike over steep terrain for 3.8 kms to a height of 604 meters above sea level. The sheer drop from the rock to the water below is something to behold. The exalted feeling of reaching the top is a real experience. Quite a difficult climb and descent
