Punakha Suspension Bridge - Bhutan
One of the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan, spanning approx 200m and perched high above the very swift river of Po Chhu. Draped with prayer flags, the bridge connects the town of Punakha and the Punakha Dzong, mainly used by locals from the other side of the town as a shortcut to Punakha Dzong.
Behind Punakha Dzong stretches the Punakha Suspension Bridge, the longest of its kind in Bhutan. The bridge connects the dzong with the villages on the other bank of the Po Chhu river -- Shengana, Samdingkha, and Wangkha -- where traces of the Divine Madman Drukpa Kuenley can still be found, in the form of local stories, monasteries, and markings on rocks.
In these small villages, locals sell their wares in tiny, traditional shops. Visitors can stop here for a quick and authentic view of true Bhutan.
In order to access the suspension bridge from the dzong, one must walk past the King’s palace and the cremation ground.

The Punakha suspension bridge is the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan.
Its near the Punakha Dzong and you should not miss this.

Punakha is the old capital of Bhutan. It is famous for its Dzong and longest suspension bridge of the Bhutan. The height of Punakha valley is 1200 meters. Punakha is the winter capital of Bhutan. The head of the clergy of Bhutan with his entourage of monks spend the winter in this dzong. Jacaranda trees grow around the dzong, blooming with mauve flowers in the spring.
The Dzong is located between the Pho Chhu (Male) and Mo Chhu (Female) river in the Punakha–valley. After the confluence of these two rivers, the main river is known as Puna Tsang chu or Sankosh River and flows down through Wangdue Phodrang, crosses the Bhutan–India border at Kalikhola and eventually meets the Brahmaputra River.
The wedding of the Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and his fiancée, Jetsun Pema, was held at the Punakha Dzong on 13 October 2011.
पुनाखा भूटान की पुरानी राजधानी है। यह भूटान के डेज़ोंग और सबसे लंबे निलंबन पुल के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। पुनाखा घाटी की ऊंचाई 1200 मीटर है। पुनाखा भूटान की शीतकालीन राजधानी है। भूटान के पादरियों के मुखिया भिक्षुओं के दल के साथ इस डोज़ोंग में सर्दी बिताते हैं। वसंत में मौवे के फूलों के साथ खिलते हुए, जार्जंडा के पेड़ डोज़ोंग के चारों ओर उगते हैं।
दज़ोंग पुनाखा-घाटी में फो छू (नर) और मो छू (मादा) नदी के बीच स्थित है। इन दोनों नदियों के संगम के बाद, मुख्य नदी पुना त्सांग चु या सोकोश नदी के रूप में जानी जाती है और वांगडू फोडरंग के माध्यम से नीचे बहती है, कलिखोला में भूटान-भारत की सीमा को पार करती है और अंततः ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी से मिलती है।
ड्रुक ग्यालपो, जिग्मे खेसर नामग्येल वांगचुक और उनके मंगेतर, जेट्सुन पेमा की शादी 13 अक्टूबर 2011 को पुनाखा द्ज़ोंग में हुई थी।

PARO TO PUNAKHA | DOCHULA PASS | PUNAKHA PART 1 | BHUTAN
Punakha is the administrative centre of Punakha dzongkhag, one of the 20 districts of Bhutan. Punakha was the capital of Bhutan and the seat of government until 1955, when the capital was moved to Thimphu. It is about 72 km away from Thimphu and it takes about 3 hours by car from the capital Thimphu. Unlike Thimphu it is quite warm in winter and hot in summer. It is located at an elevation of 1,200 metres above sea level. Here, rice is grown as the main crop along the river valleys of two main rivers of Bhutan, the Pho Chu and Mo Chu.

Along with 2 friends, I travelled to Bhutan from 30th December,2017 to 8th January,2018. The trip included train, bus and rickshaw for travel and then a private car in Bhutan. It costed us around INR 9500/- per person only. We were for 5 complete days in Bhutan and rest 4 days were required for travelling. Bhutan was a trip which I personally will never forget because even after having our ups and downs we managed to have an unbelievably beautiful journey.
