PURANDAR TREK - This fort stands 4472 ft above sea level and is located near Narayanpur. The stucture of the fort is just amazing.
Routes: From pune the easiest way is to go towards Saswad via Hadapsar and then a diversion from Narayanpur leads you to the fort. There's a slight chance that you might get confused near Narayanpur. The locals at Narayanpur can help you with the directions.
Difficulty Level and Other useful tips: Difficulty level is Medium. It will take approximately 2 1/2 hours to reach to the top. There's a motorable road which will take you to the mid of the fort. From there it hardly takes 45 mins to go to the top. If you don't want to go by the motorable road you can park your vehicles at the base and trek from the base itself.Make sure that you carry enough water with you. Dehydration can be a serious killer.

Best Cycling Climbs in India - Purandar Fort | Indian Inclines
Looking for a good cycling climb in Pune? Purandar Fort is a great one, as you'll typically have to do another climb - Katraj, Bopdev, or Dive ghat before getting here. Almost as good as the climb, are the routes you take to get here - empty, good condition, and most of all, views to die for!
This fort is located in the Western Ghats, about 40 kilometers to the south east of Pune. With an average grade of 4.6%, the climb itself isn't too hard, but it is 6.5 km long, so you do get to climb for a fair bit. With a paired climb, you'll be gaining elevation that's similar to riding up Sinhagad.
Also watch: Climb to the Jarsheshwar Temple:
Special thanks to my friend Faiz, for his great company, photos that I've used in this production, and entertaining us with his hand-less riding skills throughout.

Our trip to Purandar Fort.
Camera and mobile phones are not allowed inside the area. Government ID is must for entering the premises.
Takes around 45 minutes to reach to the top from the gate.
Closes sharp at 5 p.m. and it becomes a little dangerous during the monsoon season as the trek becomes slippery.
But, no doubt, an awesome place to go for trekking.

History :
Near the foothills of Purandar, is the small village called Narayanpur. In this village is a temple of Lord Mahadev constructed sometime during the Yadav’s dynasty. The fort is thus blessed with a history of around 1000 to 1200 years.
Just as Lord Indra occupies an undisputed position among gods and goddess, same is the status of Purandar among other forts. Its mythological name is “Indraneel Parvat”. As per Hindu mythology, when Lord Hanuman attempted to carry Dronagiri mountain range, a portion of it slipped off his hands and fell down to form “Indraneel Parvat”.
The history of this glorious fort dates back to the Bahamani Regime. Chandrasampat Deshpande of Bedar first acquired this fort. The work of reconstruction of the fort started by Chandrakant Deshpande was completed with great zeal by one of his family associates Mahadaji Nilkanth. Later, somewhere around 1489, the fort went into the hands of Nizamshah, won by his brave sardar Malik Mohammed. Further, it went into Adilshah in 1550.
It so happened during 1649, Adilshah was furious by the great deeds of Shivaji Maharaj since he had captured many forts, which were previously under control of Adilshah. Adilshah, therefore arrested Sahaji Raje and Summoned Fatehkhan to get hold of Shivaji. Dark clouds of uncertainty and fear hovered over Shivaji as the situation was really critical. It was like a huge mountain on one side and a deep valley on the other. His father was in the custody of Adilshah and the marching Fatehkhan on the other side was a real threat of ‘Swarajya’. Recognizing the inevitability of a fight, as a part of a strategic decision, Shivaji Maharaj opted Purandar fort, aa a suitable place for battle. However, inspite of the fact that the same fort was not in hands of the Marathas, it was a calculated risk which he had taken within no time, though, he managed to establish his supremacy over the fort using Gusiella technique.
With this fort as base, the Marathas entered into battle with Fatehkhan, which they subsequently won. It was a triumph of Shivaji. Later in 1655, Maharaj nominated Netaji Palkar as the “Sarnaubat” of the fort.
Maharaj’s son, Sambhaji, was born on Vaishakh Shudhha 12, Shake’ 1579, ie., 16th May 1657, Thursday on this fort.
Year 1665 marked the most devastating year as Mughal Sardar Jaisingh made a lot of Purandar fort. At that time the fort was under the supervision of Murarbaji Despande. A 2000 strong infantry backed him. Selecting 700 strong troops, Murarbaji ventured into battle with Dilerkhan who was nominated by Sardar Jaisingh and backed by 5000 strong infantry. Dilerkhan was marching upwards from all directions on to the Purandar fort. However, first Vajragad was lost and later inspite of a valiant performance by Murarbaji’s troops, the fort of Purandar fell into the hands of Moguls. Later when Shivaji Maharaj understood of his defeat, he entered into treaty with Mogul Sardar Jaisingh in which he agreed to surrender 23 of Mogul forts won by Marathas. It dates 11th June 1665. The 23 forts that were surrendered to Moguls
It was the capital of Peshwas for many years then. Shake’ 1697, i.e. 1775, marked the birth of Sawai Madhavrao. In the year 1818, British took the charge of the fort.

Malhargad (मल्हारगड) Fort|Maharashtra Forts| Forts near Pune|sonori fort vlog
Malhargad is a hill fort in western India near Saswad, 30 kilometres (19 mi) from Pune. It is also known as Sonori Fort due to the village of Sonori being situated at its base. The fort was named for the god Malhari and was the last fort built by the Marathas, about 1775.[1]
The Sahyadri range to the west of Pune in Velha taluka is split, and the forts Rajgad and Torna are on one branch while Forts Sinhagad, Purandar, Vajragad and Malhargad on the other. This range is known as the Bhuleshwar range which is spread along the East-West direction. The fort is believed to be built to keep watch on Dive ghat along the Pune-Saswad route. The fort was built during the period of 1757 to 1760. The fort was built by Bhivrâo Yashvant and Krishnaji Mâdhavrâo Pânsê, a Peshwa Sardar,[1] who was the chief in charge of Tofkhana of the Peshwas. Citations of a visit of Elder Madhavrao Peshwe to the fort are available in historic documents. A palace, belonging to Panse, can be seen in the Sonori village though much of it is in ruins.
The fort is in good condition. There are two temples constructed side-by-side: the smaller for Lord Khandoba, and the larger for Lord Mahadeva. From the top of this fort, the city of Jejuri and Parvati Hills can be seen. The forts of Sinhagad, Purandar, and Vajragad are also visible.

Panhala Fort (kolhapur)..Part1
SECOND PART IS COMING SOON.
n 1659, after the death of the Bijapur general Afzal Khan, in the ensuing confusion Shivaji Maharaj took Panhala from Bijapur. In May 1660, to win back the fort from SHIVAJI MAHARAJ, Adil Shah II (1656–1672) of Bijapur sent his army under the command of Siddi Jauhar[5] to lay siege to Panhala. Shivaji Maharaj fought back and they could not take the fort. The siege continued for 5 months, at the end of which all provisions in the fort were exhausted and Shivaji Maharaj was on the verge of being captured.
Under these circumstances, Shivaji Maharaj decided that escape was the only option. He gathered a small number of soldiers along with his trusted commander Baji Prabhu Deshpande and, on 13 July 1660,[6] they escaped in the dead of night to flee to Vishalgad. Baji Prabhu and a barber, Shiva Kashid,[7] who looked like Shivaji Maharaj, kept the enemy engaged, giving them an impression that Shiva Kashid was actually Shivaji Maharaj. In the ensuing battle (see Battle of Pavan Khind), almost three quarters of the one thousand strong force died, including Baji Prabhu himself.[8][9] The fort went to Adil Shah. It was not until 1673 that Shivaji Maharaj could occupy it permanently.
