Purdon Conservation Area Lookout
A walk to the lookout area at Purdon Conservation area, which is owned and operated by the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA). The video begins at the lower parking area at Purdon and goes through the fen boardwalk and up the stairs to the top of an escarpment that overlooks Purdon's Lake and the historic Purdon Conservation Area. The lookout is also available from the upper parking lot in case you would rather a shorter, less challenging route than taking the stairs. Enjoy!

June at Purdon Conservation Area (McDonald's Corners, ON - 2018)
The yearly showcase of lady's slipper orchids had begun, just in time for my visit to Purdon Conservation Area, northwest of Perth, ON. The park is home to the largest colonies of lady's slipper orchids in Canada. The plants are located in a fen, accessible by a boardwalk. While the orchids are a main feature at Purdon, there are other natural wonders to see. Squirrels, dragonflies and caterpillars were also easy to spot during my visit.
This video was shot north of McDonald's Corners, Ontario, in mid-June 2018.

Fall at the Mill of Kintail (Almonte, Ontario)
During a late afternoon in mid-October, 2014, I decided to visit Mill of Kintail Conservation Area, northwest of Almonte, Ontario. It is not only an excellent place to view the changing leaf colours. In addition to several nature trails, the conservation area also contains a former grist mill that doubles today as the R. Tait Mackenzie Museum. R. Tait Mackenzie was a military surgeon who became a sculptor later in life, and resided in the old mill. The building, which you will see during some later sequences in the video, was constructed in 1832. You can also view the Indian River (not to be confused with the other Indian River in Ontario, near Peterborough), which winds its way through the park.
