PUSHKAR Camel Fair | CAMEL TRADING + Pushkar HORSE MARKET, Rajasthan, India पुष्कर
Camels trading, horses and touts... The Pushkar Camel Fair is a Rajasthani festival that was on my radar for some time! Held every November for 5 days, over 11,000 camels and horses are brought to be sold and/or traded. Pushkar Camel Mela grounds can be very touristy with spectacle events, but I visited the serious camel trading area to see what attracts camel buyers and sellers!
While I don't like promoting animal tourism, the trading is a way of life for livestock owners, just as it is a proud moment to show off their best performing livestock. Still, it is very heartbreaking to see the mistreatment of camels through this camel mela fair of Pushkar and its events.
Village owners trek for days to bring their herds to market. Some animals don't get sold and have to make the long journey back to their village; some livestock don't survive the journey.

This Rajasthani Pushkar camel and Mela fair is an amazing. The Pushkar Fair (Pushkar Camel Fair) or locally Pushkar ka Mela, is the annual five-day camel and livestock fair, held in the town of Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan, India. It is one of the world's largest camel fairs, and apart from buying and selling of livestock it has become an important tourist attraction and its highlights have become competitions such as the matka phod, longest moustache, and bridal competition are the main draws for this fair which attracts thousands of tourists. In recent years the fair has also included an exhibition cricket match between the local Pushkar club and a team of random foreign tourists. The Imperial Gazetteer of India, mentions an attendance of 100,000 pilgrims in early 1900s. People from all over India come to Pushkar to buy and sell high breed animal like camels and horses. We also noticed many foreigners visting Pushkar fair. We witnessed camel dance, riding and beauty contests. However, one of the major attractions of this fair is the Marwari horse. The Marwari Horse is considered to be one of the finest horse breeds of India. It is a rare breed of horse from the Marwar region or the area around Jodhpur. This breed is known for its inward-turning ear tips; it comes in all equine colours, although Marwaris with pinto patterns tend to be the most popular with buyers and breeders The Pushkar fair is also the world's largest camel fair.

Pushkar Fair 2019 is being officially held from November 4 through November 12, however traders and farmers from all parts of India have started congregating in Pushkar, Rajasthan. The government held events kick off on November 4, 2019.
For those who are visiting for the first time, we highly recommend you rent a bike for the days you plan to stay at Pushkar and rent a hotel in Ajmer which is hardly 20 minutes by road from Ajmer City.

Pushkar is one of the most ancient cities of India. Located in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district in midst of Aravali range,
I began to live the night of November 8. The next morning I was Pushkar reach. I read a little bit out of the rest of the camera. Pushkar is a big stadium and there is an open field where the sand is shown in a variety of sports, such as Camel racing, horse racing, etc. Rise of the horses that come from different places with many people. They play with them and later selling them at shows and there are different kinds of shops. The fair runs five days long. The fair ended full moon day. And one of the events organized by the Rajasthan government Which perform five days long . There are a lot of people in India and abroad come to take part in the ceremony.
I say to my friend and my follower of Pushkar Fair is the best time to see the last 3 days. At that time, a lot of people are calling for is an end to the pomp of the full moon day of the fair ended.
I hope through my eyes, you like this Pushkar. Come and Meet the Pushkar, and see if you show a lot of things.

Pushkar Mela 2018 - Part 1 | Largest Camel Gathering In the World | Rajasthan | DesiGirl Traveller
I recently visited Pushkar Fair in Rajasthan (India) and loved every bit of Pushkar city. Pushkar camel fair is the biggest camel gathering in the world and also the greatest festival of Rajasthan. The Pushkar mela or pushkar camel fair is also locally known as Kartik mela. It is an annual mela that happens in Pushkar in Rajasthan in India. Every year, this fair starts at the Hindu calendar month of Kartik and ends on the Kartik Purnima which is typically end of October of early November. The Pushkar fair alone attracts over 200,000 visitors from all around the world every year. It is absolutely famous among Indians as well as foreigners. In case you are wandering how to reach this fair, Pushkar is well connected by air, train and road. The nearest railway station is Ajmer and the nearest airport is Jaipur. You have buses going to Pushkar from Delhi, Jaipur and other major cities in the North India.
With over 50,000 camels gathered in one place for business, the Pushkar fair is a display of unique exhibitions and competitions. Many believe that Pushakar fair is the largest cattle fair but that’s not true. Largest cattle fair happens in Sonpur in Bihar. But Pushkar fair is certainly the largest camel gathering fair. Around 30,000 camels are traded in this fair and other animal too including horses, sheeps, cows, goats etc. Even photographers from all over the world come during this festival to capture the colours of Rajasthan.
Camping at Pushkar Fair –
Any complete guide for Pushkar Mela is incomplete without a mention of the excellent accommodation options available during the course of it. One of the best things to enjoy in Pushkar Fair is the Pushkar camping experience. These camps combine the pleasures of camping amidst luxury. I stayed at Aagman India camps in Pushkar and truly happy with their amazing services. The campsite had 85 tents in total including luxury and super luxury tents. Each of the tents are well equipped with modern and luxurious amenities including spring mattress bed, cozy quilts, chest drawers with locks, night lamp for reading purpose, wooden flooring in the bathroom, good quality toiletries etc. Now talking about the bathroom, it’s very unusual to get wooden flooring bathroom with separate space for toilet and shower in a Swiss camp. That’s where Aagman India camps fulfil its promise of providing the ultra luxurious tents at your service.
Even the food served at the campsite was great. The property has a huge and luxury dining space. Overall, I had an amazing experience staying at Aagman India Camps in Pushkar and definitely 100% recommend it. Also, these tents are available only during the fair every year. Booking can be done through their website given below, 2-3 months in advance.

Karthik mela , pushkar ka mela are other names of this camel fair. Pushkar mela 2020 starts on November 22 nd and ends on November 30. Pushkar mela started before 4th century BC and it was only livestock fair along with Hindu pilgrim. Pushkar fair starts on Karthik month and ends on Karthika Poornima. Last 5 days are most important ,ie from ekadashi to Poornima in the month of Karthika. So this fair is also called as karthika mela. Rajasthan tourism department promoting this puskar mela as a travel trade fair , carnival along with this livestock fair.
Pushkar brahma temple is very prominent among the temples of Lord Brahma , who is know as the god of creator. Pushkar having one sacred lake , Sarovar lake , with 52 ghats , and more than 500 Hindu temples in and around this Lake , including Brahma temple . where pilgrims throng in large numbers to take a sacred bath, especially around Karthik Poornima (October–November) when the Pushkar Fair is held. A dip in the sacred lake is believed to cleanse sins and cure skin diseases.

Thousands of people go to the banks of the Pushkar Lake where the fair takes place. Men buy and sell their livestock, which includes camels, cows, sheep and goats.The women go to the stalls, full of bracelets, clothes, textiles and fabrics. A camel race starts off the festival, with music, songs and exhibitions to follow. Between these events, the most waited for is the test of how the camel is able to bring the items. In order to demonstrate, the men go up on the group of camels one after another.

Pushkar fair continues for five days and these five days are a period of relaxation and merry-making for the villagers. This fair time is the busiest time for them, as this is one of the largest cattle fairs in the country. Animals, including over 50,000 camels,[citation needed] are brought from distant places around to be traded and sold. All the camels are washed and adorned, some are shorn to form artistic patterns. Some camels, horses, and cows are colorfully decorated.[17]
In addition to the animal trading market, Pushkar in parallel holds a festival of folk music and dances, ferris wheels, magic shows, horse and camel races and various other traditional sports and team entertainment competitions. While the Pushkar fair is held around the Kartik Purnima that typically overlaps between late October and early November, other seasons feature other sports and festivals for pilgrims who visit the sacred lake.
Pushkar Holi
Holi takes place in March and it is one of the most important festivals in the Hindu calendar. It represents the triumph of good over evil and the coming of springtime. Holi celebrations happen all over India and involve huge jubilant street parties. During Holi, Bhang (ancient Indian cannabis edible) is served in Pushkar, which is known to have some of the best Bhang in India.
Pushkar Lake – The prime attraction of Pushkar is the Pushkar Lake which is considered sacred like the Mansarovar Lake in Tibet. Pushkar has become a place of Hindu pilgrimage because of this holy lake. Legend has it that this lake was consecrated to Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe when a lotus dropped from his hand into the vale and a lake emerged in that place.
The second Sikh temple is dedicated to Guru Gobind Singh marking his visit after he had been forced out of Anandpur by Aurangzeb.[5] The place he stayed in and the lakefront next to it is now called the Gobind Ghat. It has a memorial inscription and this shrine was built with the sponsorship of the Maratha Empire, after the widespread Hindu-Muslim wars in the final decades of Aurangzeb rule and the collapse of the Mughal Empire.
