Pushkar Sarovar - Pushkar Lake - The sacred lake of Lord Brahma
Pushkar Lake or Pushkar Sarovar (Sanskrit: पुष्कर-सरोवर) is located in the town of Pushkar in Ajmer district of the Rajasthan state of western India. Pushkar Lake is a sacred lake of the Hindus. The Hindu scriptures describe it as Tirtha-Raj – the king of pilgrimage sites related to a water-body and relate it to the mythology of the creator-god Brahma, whose most prominent temple stands in Pushkar. The Pushkar Lake finds mention on coins as early as the 4th century BC.
Pushkar Lake is surrounded by 52 bathing ghats (a series of steps leading to the lake), where pilgrims throng in large numbers to take a sacred bath, especially around Kartik Poornima (October–November) when the Pushkar Fair is held. A dip in the sacred lake is believed to cleanse sins and cure skin diseases. Over 500 Hindu temples are situated around the lake precincts.
Pushkar Lake around which the Pushkar town has developed is in the Ajmer district in the state of Rajasthan, India amidst the Aravalli range of hills. The mountain range known as Nag Parbat (snake mountain) separates the lake from the city of Ajmer. The valley is formed between the two parallel ranges of the Aravalli hills (in the elevation range of 650–856 meters (2,133–2,808 ft) running south-west to northeast.
According to mythology Lord Brahm decided to perform a yagna at the place, at the main Pushkar Lake. However, his wife Savitri (called Sarasvati in some versions) could not be present at the designated time to perform the essential part of the yagna. Brahma, therefore, married a Gujjar,a dominant agricultural race named Gayatri and completed the yagna with his new consort sitting beside him. However, when Savitri finally arrived at the venue, she found Gayatri sitting next to Brahma in her rightful place. Agitated, she cursed Brahma that he would be worshipped only in Pushkar. As a result of this, yagna performed in the presence of all the gods, it is said that a dip in the lake created at this place is credited with holiness, assuring salvation from all sins. It is now one of the five holiest centres of pilgrimage for Hindus

Located in the small town of Pushkar in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan, The Pushkar Lake is one of the most prominent spots of pilgrimage as well as the site of the world famous Pushkar Fair. Encircled by numerous temples and ghats (bathing spots), the lake draws thousands upon thousands devotees every year to its threshold, to gain spiritual distinction and attain salvation by taking a dip in its holy waters.
As the Kartik (Oct-Nov) month descends, the site becomes the focus of soulful devotion and pilgrimage as auspiciousness of this time is highly emphasized in Hindu sacred texts. At the same time, Pushkar Fair wonderfully exhibits the vibrancy of Rajasthan with exotic colors, dishes, dance, cattle fair and numerous entertaining contests and competitions. With amazing spiritual atmosphere, Pushkar Lake remains the site of timeless reverence and spirit.

Pushkar is a town in the Ajmer district in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is one of the five sacred dhams for devout Hindus. Pushkar is one of the oldest existing cities of India. It lies on the shore of Pushkar Lake. Pushkar has many temples. The most famous among all is the Brahma Temple built during the 14th century.There is also a Savitri Temple Located at the top of the Ratnagiri Hill is dedicated to Savitri, the wife of Lord Brahma. Very few temples to Lord Brahma exist anywhere in the world. Pushkar is also famous for its annual fair (Pushkar Camel Fair) held in November.
Other than this, the prime attraction of Pushkar is the Pushkar Lake which is considered sacred like the Mansarovar Lake in Tibet. Pushkar has become a place of Hindu pilgrimage because of this holy lake.
The Aravalli Range here is one of the world's oldest mountain ranges, and has sandy fields, small dunes, beautiful hills and mesmerizing sunrises and sunsets.
The nearest airport from Pushkar is Sanganer Airport at Jaipur . Pushkar is well connected with all the major cities in India.

Pushkar is a famous religious place of india, situated near about 15 Kms.away from Ajmer city of Rajasthan. There are 52 bathing ghat built around holy Pushkar lake and so many temples in the city.The famous Pushkar fair held every year on the Kartik purnima full moon day of the year.The cattel fair also held with this religious fair. Horses and camels are main attrection of this fair. Rajasthani folk dancers and musicians add traditional color in this fair.

Recently visited Pushkar in Rajasthan during the Pushkar Camel Fair and explored the Pushkar Mela, Pushkar lake, and did a bit of sightseeing and shopping around the city. Pushkar Camel Fair is a week-long festival where livestock, especially camels, is traded and attracts a lot of people from all over the world. We also stopped at Ajmer on the way to Pushkar. Legend has it that a lotus fell from the hands of Lord Brahma, the god of creation, and Pushkar Lake was born, making it as old as creation itself.
0:18 - Coloured in saffron is the Shiv Mandir at Bharthpur Ghat on Pushkar Lake.
0:35 - Atop a distant hill is a small temple called the Pap Mochini Mandir where it is believed to provide respite to followers from their cardinal sins.
0:45 - Entrance of Brahma Temple, the Brahma temple holds a special place in the hearts of Indians. It is the only temple in the world dedicated to Lord Brahma.
1:19 - Worshippers take a dip in the holy lake. Devotees believe that bathing in the waters of the lake on Kartik Poornima (during the Pushkar Fair) will nullify sins and cure all skin diseases.
This artificial lake has been created by building a dam and lies nestled in the folds of the Aravalli range, surrounded by a desert and hills on all sides. The lake has 52 bathing ghats (steps leading into the water) and the water around each ghat is believed to possess special medicinal powers. The Pushkar Lake is a popular destination for pilgrims, as evidenced by the over 500 temples that dot the banks of the lake.

One of the most popular attractions in the sacred town of Pushkar is Pushkar Lake. It is a magnet for tourists, thanks to its 52 sacred bathing ghats.
