BEING BLESSED IN PUSHKAR & Why Pushkar is a Travellers Dream! | Pushkar Vlog
Pushkar is a small town in Rajasthan, it's a traveller, backpacker and hippy haven thanks to it being chilled (for India!), small and cheap.
There are lots of things to do in Pushkar to keep you busy but at the same time, the lack of major things to do is what makes it so good!
In this video I start my day as I started most days in Pushkar by going for Chai and then to a Yoga and Meditation Class as Pushkar Meditation Temple. I loved this class and really recommend it to you.
Later on I go to the Brahma Temple in Pushkar which is a very important temple for Hindu's as Brahma is the Creator God in Hindu and this is one of only a few Brahma Temples in India.
A guide showed me around and then took me to Pushkar Lake- a Holy lake, to be blessed. I was quite wary and cautious as I didn't want to be told that I had to spend a lot of money. Instead I informed the priest from the start that I didn't have much money on me and I stood my ground on how much he wanted me to pay. My hostel had told me not to pay more than a few hundred rupees, not thousands!
Afterwards I went for lunch as the food is really good in Pushkar, I loved The Laughing Buddha.
I walked around the markets as the shopping in Pushkar is great and so cheap!
There are lots of places to watch the Sunset in Pushkar and I headed up the big hill to Savitri Temple but unfortunately the monkeys at the top made me feel uncomfortable so I left before sunset.

Brahma Temple, Pushkar, Rajasthan - sathya's visit
Pushkar : is a town in the Ajmer district in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is situated 14 km (8.7 mi) northwest ofAjmer at an average elevation of 510 m (1,670 ft) and is one of the five sacred dhams (pilgrimage site) for devout Hindus.
Places to see in pushkar:
Pushkar has many temples. Most of the temples are not very old because many temples were destroyed during Muslim conquests in the area.[1]Subsequently, the destroyed temples were rebuilt. The most famous among all is the 1.Jagat Pitta Shri Brahma temple, built during the 14th century CE. 2. Savitri temple, 3.Varaha temple, 4. Apteshwar Mahadev temple, 5.The Sri Sawai Bhoj Temple, 6.Baba the Cosmic Barber, 7.Temple of Rangji, 8. Man Mahal, 9.Gurudwara Singh Sabha. The Pushkar lake has 52 ghats where pilgrims descend to the lake to bathe in the sacred waters.
1. Jagat Pitta Shri Brahma temple -- The most important temple in Pushkar is the Temple of Lord Brahma, one of the holy trinity of Hinduism. The temple enshrines a life-size idol of Lord Brahma. The word 'Pushkar' means lotus flower, which is said to be the seat of Brahma, one of the Hindu holy trinity, who is worshipped as the creator of this world. The legend has it that the demon Vajra Nabha killed Brahma's children, he in turn struck him with his weapon, a lotus flower. Vajra Nabha died with the impact, and the petals of the lotus fell at three places. One of them is Pushkar, where it gave birth to a lake. Brahma is supposed to have performed sacrifice at this lake on Kartik Purnima (the full moon day of the Kartik month (generally in the month of November)), hallowing the place.
Though Brahma is considered to be the creator of the world, Pushkar is the only temple of this important deity in the whole world. This is also considered as Adi Teerth or Teertharaj meaning ancient holy place or the most important of holy places respectively.
Temple worshiping time: The temple is open for worship between 6:30 am and 8:30 pm during winter and 6:00 am to 9:00 pm during summer, with an interval in afternoon between 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm when the temple is closed.[1][2] Three aratis are held in the temple: Sandhya arati in the evening about 40 minutes after sunset, Ratri Shayan arati (night-sleep arati) about 5 hours past sunset and Mangala arati in the morning, about 2 hours before sunrise.
2. Pushkar Lake -- The prime attraction of Pushkar is the Pushkar Lake which is considered sacred like the Mansarovar Lake in Tibet. Pushkar has become a place of Hindu pilgrimage because of this holy lake. Legend has it that this lake was consecrated to Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe when a lotus dropped from his hand into the vale and a lake emerged in that place.
3. Savitri Temple- This temple that is located at the top of the Ratnagiri Hill is dedicated to Savitri, the wife of Lord Brahma. The temple houses a statue of Goddess Savitri.
4. Old Pushkar- Old Pushkar lake is rebuilt and is located around 5 km from Pushkar lake. According to the ancient texts, Old Pushkar has equal cultural and religious significance for the pilgrims.
5. Bhandarej, Bhangarh and Fort Madhopur: A visit to Bhandarej, Bhangarh and Fort Madhopur from Jaipur via Dausa Town by an Indica or Ambassador taxi would cost about Rs 2,000. Expect rates to go up considerably in the high season.
6. Ajmer: is the nearest tourist attraction that lies outside the city boundaries of Pushkar.
7. Kishangarh: Located 27 kilometres away from Ajmer, there is Kishangarh, famous for its miniature paintings, more popularly known as Bani Thani.
Pushkar Fair: Every year thousands of domestic and international tourists come to be a part of this amazing Pushkar Fair. This fair is organized in 07 Nov To 17 Nov 2013 . Tourists come to take a holy dip in the pushkar lake at the time of karthik purnima, which is basically a full moon day.

Pushkar & Jaipur | India | Travel Vlog #5 (FSK18)

In Pushkar, a small, holy city, we fell in love! Here, the clocks run a little differently, the large indian masses come only for pilgrim passing, it is not so loud and Bangh is legal.
From here we went on into the loud, dirty Pink City: Jaipur. With its many exciting sights: Fort Amber, Hawa Mahal (Wind Palace), Jantar Mantar (historical observatory) and Galta Ji (Monkey Temple) has also cast a spell over the city.

The most famous temple in Pushkar is the Brahma Temple, located near Pushkar Lake. The temple is believed to be 2000 years old. The temple holds the images of the creator Lord Brahma along with his second major consort Goddess Gayatri. The temple is described to have been built by sage Vishwamitra and it is believed that Lord Brahma himself chose the location for his temple.
The Brahma temple has been recognized as one of the ten most religious places in the world and is considered to be one of the five sacred pilgrimage destinations for Hindus.
The temple becomes important especially during the Kartika Purnima in the months of October- November. Numerous people with deep faith in their hearts take a holy dip in the water of Pushkar Lake and bow their head before the Jagat Pita, Lord Brahma.
Pushkar Lake
Pushkar lake near the Brahma Temple is considered sacred for the Hindus. Hindu scriptures describe it as Tirtha-Raj - the king of pilgrimage sites related to a water-body. The Pushkar Lake finds mention on coins as early as the 4th century BC.
Pushkar Lake is surrounded by 52 bathing ghats (a series of steps leading to the lake), where pilgrims throng in large numbers to take a sacred bath, especially around Kartik Poornima when the Pushkar Fair is held. A dip in the sacred lake is believed to cleanse sins and cure skin diseases. Over 500 Hindu temples are situated around the lake precincts.

Why don't we pray and offer pooja to Lord Bramha?
Once while travelling around the universe Lord Brahma reached the abode of Lord Vishnu. He saw Lord Vishnu resting on Shesh-Nag and being attended by Garuda and other attendants. Lord Vishnu did not get up to receive Lord Brahma. This act of Lord Vishnu got him angry. Very soon, verbal dual erupted between them to determine who is superior. It became so severe that a battle was fought between them, which continued for very long time. All the deities arrived from heaven to watch the battle. They became very worried when they saw no sign of the battle coming to an end. They decided to go to Lord Shiva, to seek his help. Even though in meditation, Lord Shiva knew everything, but still feigning ignorance, he asked about the well beings of the world. The deities told him about the battle, fought between Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. Lord Shiva then sent his one hundred Ganas to pacify both of them, but still the war still did not stop.
Then Lord Shiva himself went there. When Lord Shiva reached there, he saw that Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu were about to use their deadly weapons- Brahma Astra and Narayanastra respectively. Fearing the destruction, which these deadly weapons would cause, Lord Shiva manifested himself in the form of Analstamba (pillar of fire) between them. Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu were very surprised to see the pillar of fire, which was so enormous in size that it reached the sky and penetrated down the Earth.
Lord Vishnu transformed himself into a boar and went to Patal (Underworld) to find the base of that Pillar of fire. But he was unsuccessful in his attempt and came back. Similarly Lord Brahma transformed himself into a swan and flew up in the sky to find its limit. While going through the aerial route he met a withered Ketaki flower (fragrant screw pine Pandanus Sativa, kewra in hindi and thazhampu in tamil), which had still some freshness and fragrance left in it. Lord Shiva smiled at the futile attempts of Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. As a result of his smile the Ketaki flower fell down from the branch. Ketaki flower told Lord Brahma that he had been present there since the beginning of the creation, but was unable to know about the origin of that Pillar of fire. The flower also advised Lord Brahma against making any effort in that direction, as it would be of no use. Lord Brahma then sought the help of Ketaki flower to give a false witness before Lord Vishnu, that he (Lord Brahma) had been successful in seeing the limit of that pillar of fire. Ketaki flower agreed. Both of them went to Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma told him that he had seen the limit of that Pillar of fire. Ketaki flower became the witness. Lord Vishnu accepted the superiority of Lord Brahma.
Lord Shiva became very angry with Lord Brahma, but was pleased with Lord Vishnu and accorded him the same status as that of his own. He proceeded to punish Lord Brahma for his falsehood. Lord Shiva opened his third eye and from it Bhairav was manifested. Lord Shiva ordered Bhairav to kill Lord Brahma. Bhairav severed the fifth head of Lord Brahma with his sword. Lord Brahma became very terrified, he was trembling in fear. Lord Vishnu felt pity on his condition and requested Lord Shiva to forgive him.
