Planting Winter Oats -- Fail!
This shows what can go wrong when, like us, you don't have enough experience planting winter oats. Of course we should have checked the drill often and maybe we would have spotted the problem earlier. Oh well, no real harm done and we did learn another lesson (#4,562,308!). It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, comes up..

P.A.W People Against Waste The Solution
Our Solution
While pet waste is a large and growing problem for municipalities across Canada, P.A.W is offering solutions and opportunities that will make a big impact by turning our problem into a reusable resource. We will start with parks and common areas and then graduate to curb side pick-up, and eventually have user friendly apps that allow us to tackle problem areas that have been brought to our attention by residents. P.A.W will strategically place bins across a municipality collecting the droppings.
P.A.W projects to put approximately 300 bins across municipalities in a 3 year pilot project; collecting the droppings separately from the garbage that contaminates our landfills. P.A.W will put the bins in high traffic areas like dog parks, green spaces, schools and walking trails, along with areas used by folks that are perhaps restricted from taking long walks, such as old age homes and apartment buildings. 50 bins will be on stand by for unforeseen requests by the residents or town officials. P.A.W will also have maps to show our residents where they can properly dispose of their droppings from home to help do their part. The bins will be red in color with signs on them clearly stating that they are for animal feces only, and our mission to keep it out of landfills. P.A.W will also have full time staff members available 7 days a week to continuously pick up droppings across your municipality, as there are A LOT of ignorant pet owners that do not pick up after their pets. P.A.W will also respond to complaints and coordinate the rearrangement of bins to suit higher traffic areas. In the future we would like to develop an app where citizens can send us pins of the areas that need extra attention. A large portion of P.A.W’s mission is to uphold our town’s slogan that “Life is better in Your Municipality”. Life is better when your municipality is cleaner. P.A.W will be out regularly to educate pet owners on the importance of proper pet waste disposal, and to share our vision. In turn, we will help negotiate a reduced price of the recycled composted waste for the community to use to help with the planting of new trees, shrubs or whatever is needed to help keep our community clean and looking beautiful. P.A.W will show the community the benefits of keeping their dog waste out of the landfill. The more we collect, the more we can give back. This is a win-win situation. The result is less trips to the landfill and a cleaner community now, and for future generations.
Municipalities can generate the required funding for dog waste management programs through a little creativity and partnerships within the community. We can start by sponsoring ads on dispensers. For example, local businesses will have an opportunity to contribute to the community, while also connecting themselves to local dog owners. In addition, adding a small premium to dog licencing fees would generate extra cash flow each year. Combining these two methods has the potential to generate a significant amount of funding – possibly even revenue.
Campbell River Pole Peeling Plant on Duncan Bay Rd
The noise from this pole peeling plant is driving residential residents crazy. The sound carries several kilometers in every direction and affects everyone in the neighbourhood. Our property values have dropped and no one wanting to sell can because no one will buy in a noisy neighbourhood. This was once a quiet peaceful area and the properties are all small hobby farm with lots of horses in the area. The city of Campbell River screwed up badly allowing this plant into this area, and the residents want the city to relocate it to a non residential area. This one business is affecting the lives of approximately 250 people and over 50 million dollars in property value. We need your help to send a message to the City of Campbell River, that this must go! Trying to put tunnels on the building to cut the sound will not work, we have already been told it will not work by many experts.

14 Most Unusual Hotel Rooms You Won’t Believe Exist
I’m Lorenzo from Insane Curiosity, and here
14 Most UNUSUAL HOTEL Rooms You Won’t Believe Exist
14) Liberty Hotel, Boston
Nobody has to commit a crime anymore to earn the privilege of staying at Boston’s legendary Liberty Hotel, which once was the home of the Charles Street jail, whose inmates once included Malcolm X and Boston’s ex-mayor James Curley. Constructed back in 1851, the jail, which sits right in the heart of Boston’s Beacon Hill, closed its doors due to overcapacity in 1990. In 2007 it was changed into a 298-room high-end dwelling, which still contains parts of the original structure. Eat inside the remains of the old jail cells at the hotel’s restaurant, Clink, and have yourself a drink at Alibi, which is a bar that once acted as the jail’s tank.
13.) KOKOPELLI’S CAVE, FARMINGTON, NEW MEXICO
Named after a flute-playing illustration carved into rocks thousands of years ago by Native Americans throughout the Southwest, Kokopelli’s Cave is a isolated, multi-room bed-and-breakfast 300 feet above the La Plata River Valley. Guests walk up the stairs to the entrance 70 feet below the mesa top, and soon discover a 1,700-square-foot circular cavern that was shot right out of the rock by geologist Bruce Black, who first thought the location would be his office. But he ended up turning it into a B&B complete with a Jacuzzi and waterfall shower, a full kitchen, living room equipped with a fireplace, and a bedroom with a balcony that looks over the vast desert landscape below.
12.) Wigwam Village, Holbrook, Arizona
Vintage style honestly couldn’t get any better than this. The Wigwam Motel, which is located in Holbrook, Arizona, is only one part of the Wigwam Motel chain that’s scattered across the West and Southwest. With its origins starting out back in 1950 and with it being based off Historic Route 66, this specific motel is a perfect exhibit of vintage mid-century Americana. Classic, beautiful automobiles cover the parking lot and neon signs in stylish fonts greet sentimental road trippers, while simultaneously the fifteen wigwams, which are pretty much more resemblant of teepees include basic motel features such as hot showers and cable TV.
11.) Grand Daddy Hotel, South Africa
From the windows of its corner location on the festive Long Street, this five-story Cape Town resort seems from street level as an authentic boutique estate with a hip as hbar and grill. However, climb up to the roof to check yourself into one the Grand Daddy Hotel’s seven authentic Airstream trailers. Each of these trailers contains a particular touch to it and is colorful both in interior design and in its RV model design. In addition to this each trailer is named after various nearby regions to completely represent a South African road trip. If they’re all booked up during your trip, don’t worry. You can still chillax at the rooftop Sky Bar and take in the Airstream beauty with a cocktail.
16.) Giraffe Manor, Kenya
Kenya is famous for possessing the The Big Five of African Wildlife (lions, leopards, elephants, rhinoceros, and cape buffalo), but at this historic mansion there is a sixth wildlife, and it happens to be the main theme- giraffes! The resort is less than 10 miles outside the crazy city center of Nairobi, the vine smothered Giraffe Manor is the epitome of tranquility. The brick mansion was constructed back in 1932, however it was when preservationists Jock and Betty Leslie-Melville purchased the land in 1974 that it truly became what it is today. The land would swiftly grow to 140 acres and it’s now home to a herd of resident Rothschild giraffes along with the neighboring AFEW Giraffe Center.
15.) Costa Verde, Quepos, Costa Rica
To invent a hotel that's mostly like a scene straight out of the TV show Lost, the Costa Verde team transformed and cleaned up a 1965 classic Boeing 727 body in order to make a perfect two-bedroom hotel room on a coastal rainforest setup. A primary spot for romance, weddings and honeymoons, it's located on a concrete plinth that shoots up 15 miles into this jungle-esque canopy. This is done to make looking out of the windows to feel like you’re flying in mid-air. There's a wooden cabin constructed around the aircraft, along with furnishings in hand carved teak, and the back bedroom contains a handcrafted deck on the wing, from
1,600-Pound Bison Rides in Cars and Goes to Bars
Jim Sautner has a nickname -- and that nickname is The Buffalo Whisperer. Why? Well, it might have something to do with the fact that he drives his pet bison with him when he goes to the bar for a drink. That's just our guess, anyway.
Hailing from the Canadian city of Edmonton, Jim and his pet bovine chum hop into a low rider and scoot on down to the local watering hole for a few before scooting on back home.
What makes this all the more bizarre is the fact that the bison is 1,600 pounds, and the car still goes perfectly well -- even if it's a little bit distracting on the road for other drivers.
Oh, and his pet dog rides along at the back of the car, too. Wouldn't want to leave him out.

How To Protect Young Trees From Deer & Rabbits & Small Animals
Read full details here:
This is a very simple way to protect your young trees and shrubs from deer, rabbits and other small rodents.
I used fiberglass stakes but you can use metal stakes, wood or even saplings cut and driven into the ground.
You should form a square border around your tree with four stakes. Drive them deeply into the ground so that they will remain standing and endure your local winds and weather.
The stakes should be about 2 to 3 feet away from the tree on all sides. This keeps the tree out of the reach of hungry deer which have long necks.
Use deer netting or chicken wire to form the protective barrier around the tree. I start with the roll and fasten it to one stake. You can use baling wire or the ends of the chicken wire if that is what you are using. Even zip ties or bread ties will work.
Run the wire or netting around each corner post and tie it in place as you go. When using chicken wire I like to press and form the corners for a nice neat look.
When you come back around to the starting point then you can cut the roll of deer netting or chicken wire and fasten the end onto the stake.
Now you are safe from deer. But to protect your tree from rodents and rabbits you have to go another step further.
Drive stakes in the ground in between the supporting posts. These can be tent stakes or even twigs or tree branches driven into the ground. The idea is to hold the netting down tight to the ground to stop rodents from getting in.
Now if you have rabbit problems you will need to run some chicken wire along the ground, laying flat on the ground and extending about a foot out. This needs to be run all around the outside of your protective barrier. This keeps rabbits from digging underneath the wire to get at your tasty tree.
Thats it. Your tree is safe from predators.
