Inside North Korea: New Pyongyang Metro Station (May 2019)
Triumph station on the Pyongyang Metro was the first station on the Pyongyang Metro to be refurbished. It opened on the 1st of May 2019, and I went to visit on this day!
I'm pretty confident in saying I was amongst the first foreigners to visit.
It's said that this station will serve as a model for further stations to be renovated.

I pay a visit to the Pyongyang Metro in North Korea.
Is the Pyongyang Metro Real or Fake? You Decide.
Visitors to the DPRK often wonder whether the country's capital, Pyongyang, is actually an elaborate set with thousands of actors walking the city's tree-lined boulevards portraying civilians, police and school children. For many, it is difficult to accept Pyongyang's role as a showcase for the image North Korea wishes to project, and some visitors subscribe to the more insidious theory that it is all an elaborate stage show being manipulated from behind-the-scenes.
Pyongyang's 16-stop, marble-lined metro system, with its elaborate mosaics and golden statues of Kim Il Sung, is often the center of such speculation. Some have claimed to have witnessed actors exiting the metro only to turn right back around and go for another ride. Others have insisted that since visitors often only see two or three stations, that the other stops listed on the metro's official map actually do not exist.
In August, YPT's North Korea Tour Manager Rowan Beard rode through the entire Pyongyang Metro system and captured the experience on camera. Is it real or fake? You decide!

Inside the North Korea Subway - SURREAL (May 2019)
It's day two in North Korea and we had the chance to ride on the Pyongyang Metro across the city. We also visited the Party Monument and got to climb the Juche Tower.

Pyongyang Metro in Pyongyang, North Korea
The Pyongyang Metro is the metro system in the North Korean capital Pyongyang. It consists of two lines: the Chollima Line, which runs north from Puhŭng Station on the banks of the Taedong River to Pulgŭnbyŏl Station, and the Hyŏksin Line, which runs from Kwangbok Station in the southwest to Ragwŏn Station in the northeast. The two lines intersect at Chŏnu Station.
Daily ridership is estimated to be between 300,000 and 700,000. Structural engineering of the Metro was completed by North Korea, with rolling stock and related electronic equipment imported from China. This was later replaced with rolling stock acquired from East Germany.
The Pyongyang Metro has a museum devoted to its construction and history.
Construction of the metro network started in 1965, and stations were opened between 1969 and 1972 by former president Kim Il-sung. Most of the 16 public stations were built in the 1970s, except for the two most grandiose stations—Puhoong and Yonggwang, which were constructed in 1987. In 1971, there was a major accident during the construction of a tunnel under the Taedong River for the Ponghwa Station. Some sources say at least 100 workers died in the accident. This particular section of tunnel was never completed; the metro network is now completely located on the western side of the river.
The Pyongyang Metro was designed to operate every few minutes. During rush hour, the trains can operate at a minimum interval of two minutes. The trains have the ability to play music and other recordings.
The Pyongyang Metro is one of the cheapest in the world to ride, at only five won (worth half of a US cent) per ticket. Instead of paper tickets, the Metro previously used an aluminium token, with the emblem of the Metro minted on it and the Korean 지. It now uses a paper ticket system, with 지 printed with blue ink on it. Tickets are bought at station booths and scanners are present but non functional. Smoking and eating inside the Metro system is prohibited and is punishable by a large fine.
In general, tourism in North Korea is allowed only in guided groups with no diversion allowed from pre-planned itineraries. Foreign tourists used to be allowed to travel only between Puhŭng Station and Yŏnggwang Station. However, foreign students were allowed to freely use the entire metro system. Since 2010 tourists have been allowed to ride the metro at six stations, and in 2014 opened all of the metro stations to foreigners. University students traveling with the Pyongyang Project have also reported visiting every station.
Pyongyang Metro has its own museum. A large portion of the collection is related to President Kim Il-sung providing on-the-spot guidance to the workers constructing the system. Among the exhibits are a special funicular-like vehicle which the president used to descend to a station under construction (it rode down the inclined tunnels that would eventually be used by the escalators), and a railbus in which he rode around the system.

Google glass in Pyongyang Subway - North Korea
On 2 november 2015, I did a little trip to the Pyongyang subway together with my colleagues Drewkelly and Scott (the person that weared Google Glass). They are citizens of the United States who worked in North korea as a lecturer at a university in Pyongyang. We knew each other via instagram account, while in north korea we often upload our daily lives via instagram, until finally we made an appointment to meet and travel together in pyongyang city. During our trip we were apart in vehicle, I use my own car and they use government car and driver and accompanied by a local guide. We visited all the metro stations in the Pyongyang city and paid 20 euro each person, we thought the fee was 'worth it' because this is a very rare experience, we visited all the metro stations which is usually shouldn't be visited by foreigners. Although there were some stations we were still forbid to visit but we could saw the stations from the train.
Sorry I recorded this video not good and irregular, because at that time I was focused to take photos instead of video. I recorded this video using GoPro hero4 session.

This is a quick video waiting for the train at the Puhung/Puhang station on the Mangyongdae Line, heading to the Kaeson station (home of the Triumph Arch and the most popular Theme Park in the country)! Like many of the central metro stations, it is very grand and adorned with murals of the usual suspects. The daily newspapers are also on display on stands on the platform, so that anybody can catch up on the news (the most popular pages always seem to be the ones about Lionel Messi scoring hat-tricks for Barcelona)!

Here you will walk the tunnel with local people together and waiting for the subway coming with local people together. You will take a ride with local people together. It is very beautiful building decorate with very beautiful lights on the roof. and beautiful painting on the wall. Absolutely No advertisement at all.
You will be noticed as tourists easily by local people.Maybe because of clothes or maybe face. Local people will look at you but as long as more tourists come to Pyongyang they will not look at you so surprisingly. Local people start to communicate with you with their smiling.
