Pythagoras Mechanical Workshop Museum is located in the premises of the earlier engine factory Pythagoras at the town of Norrtälje in the province of Uppland in Sweden. At the museum, production facilities and working conditions from the first half of the 20th century are on display. The factory produced hot bulb engines and spare parts for them from 1908 up to closure of the workshop in 1979.The engine factory is an industrial heritage site, complete with functioning production lines and offices.

Hot bulb engine
Work with sounds were lucky enough to record this beautiful, Swedish made, hot bulb engine on its one hundredth birthday! The event was thoroughly celebrated by us and members of the Pythagoras industrial museum. Birthday songs were sung and a new blowtorch was given to the jubilant engine. The celebration took place in the very workshop where this machine was built and assembled back in 1914.
The engine is oil fueled and delivers a total engine effect of eight horsepower. It was built in 1914 and sold to a farmer in the nearby area who used it to drive his threshing and saw equipment. The engine eventually made its way back to the Pythagoras workshop in the 1980s when it was discovered and carefully restored to its original beauty.
In the first take you hear the engine close up. In the second take you can hear the engine’s exhaust pipe echo across the yard outside of the Pythagoras mechanical workshop.

PROGRAM :
Bell Foundry .
Bells in the Felczyńscy Bell Foundry are produced with foundry methods, practiced from Renaissance. Any modernizations are connected with application of electric tools that stir the clay and polish the bells. The first Bell Foundry in the Felczyńscy family was established in 1808. Since then, the intergenerational transfer of craftsman traditions has taken place.
Felczyńscy Bell Foundry,Taciszów (Poland)
Clock.
The sound of tower clock manufactured in Michał Mięsowicz’s clock factory. The recording was realized in the Tower Clock Museum, branch of Gdańsk History Museum (Poland).
Before the popularization of house clocks and pocket clocks, tower clocks were used to indicate the time in the town. Many of them were equipped with the hour striking mechanism thanks to which it was possible to find out what the current time was also from a distance
Tram.
Sounds accompanying the ride of a passenger in the SN2 and 4N electric tram. The recording was realized during the ride from Podgórze tram depot to the Museum of Municipal Engineering in Cracow in regular traffic (Poland).
1930-1960
HotBulb Engine.
Sounds of the “Stormotorn”, the big engine Pythagoras-Drott mechanical works.
This large diesel-driven hot bulb engine was built and installed at the Pythagoras-Drott mechanical works in 1932. It has been used to drive a power generator, which still works and is able to produce electricity for the factory. In this recording, the generator is not running, so what is heard is mainly sounds of the engine, Norrtälje (Sweden).
Ship Sodek.
The ship “Sołdek” was the first seagoing cargo ship constructed by Polish ship industry. The construction was carried out by the Gdańsk Shipyard and the vessel was launched in November 1948. “Sołdek” was a coal and ore freighter, i.e. the ship intended for exporting coal from Poland and importing iron ore on its way back. Although it operated on the Baltic Sea and the North Sea area, “Sołdek” sometimes sailed on the Atlantic, transporting coal to French ports.
In 1980, “Sołdek” was withdrawn from service and listed as a monument of Polish ship industry. It is open for tourists as ship-museum for 20 years now, constituting a department of the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk (Poland).
Pratica.
Praktica Super TL is a single-lens reflex camera with the full-frame image size (24x36 mm), manufactured in 1968. It belongs to the third generation of cameras with through-the-lens metering (TTL) – a feature allowing to measure light level in a scene through the taking lenses, as opposed to a separate metering window. The Praktica cameras were more popular in the Eastern bloc countries than in the Western bloc .
Outside Now (F.Zappa cover).
Sounds from the Nova Cinema ( seats , projectionners etc…)
Nova is a cinema that opened in January 1997, in the centre of Brussels (Belgium) . Its programming focuses on independently produced films and videos. The Nova Cinema is therefore not a commercial cinema, but a non-profit organisation managed by a collective of individuals who work as volunteers. In existence for almost two decades now, Nova has become an important reference point for alternative, unconventional or simply different approaches to the audiovisual arts, in Belgium and abroad. The Nova has a 200-seat auditorium with a balcony and a well-known reception area in the basement.
Super 8.
The Sankyo Sound 502 movie projector was bought in January 1979 in Brussels (10.900 Belgian francs). It was used to project Super 8 family movies shot with a Chinon 60 AF XL bought at the same time.
Sankyo, established in 1946 in Japan as a music box manufacturer, began in 1957 the production of 8mm movie cameras and projectors. Super 8mm film cameras were first manufactured in 1965 by Kodak, and Sankyo launched the same years cameras and projectors for this new amateur film format.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
The hot-bulb engine is a type of internal combustion engine in which fuel ignites by coming in contact with a red-hot metal surface inside a bulb, followed by the introduction of air (oxygen) compressed into the hot-bulb chamber by the rising piston. There is some ignition when the fuel is introduced, but it quickly uses up the available oxygen in the bulb. Vigorous ignition takes place only when sufficient oxygen is supplied to the hot-bulb chamber on the compression stroke of the engine.
Most hot-bulb engines were produced as one or two-cylinder, low-speed two-stroke crankcase scavenged units.
