QANTAS Founders Museum in Longreach visit (incl. 747-200 and 707 wing walk)
This past weekend, I flew to Longreach in rural QLD where QANTAS setup shop back in the 1920s. There’s now the fantastic Qantas Founder Museum which features a large range of things to see and do including a 747-200 and a 707.
The Qantas Founders Museum is a not-for-profit group that relies on donations and visitors.
I hope that this video will give you a taste of what to expect and that you’ll visit the museum and check it out for yourselves. This video is also for those that are unable to make it to Longreach for various reasons.
I have no connection with the museum and paid for everything myself.
Are you a Qantas fan? An avgeek or just enjoy luxury flying? Be sure to check out the ultimate Qantas playlist:

Qantas Founders Museum 747 707 tour - Longreach EP07
Tour of the Qantas Founders Museum in Longreach featuring the Boeing 747, Boeing 707, Qantas Heritage Hangar, and Catalina flying boat. Join me on this special pilot vlog at the museum as part of my 6 day trip flying solo from Melbourne to Longreach and back.
Thanks to our Jet Tour guide Alex for allowing me to film the tour, it's her voice you'll hear in some parts talking about the Boeing 747 and Boeing 707.
I'm flying from Melbourne to Longreach in a Cirrus SR20 under the Instrument and Visual flight rules. Stopping at regional airports along the way, hopefully meeting some interesting people and fellow aviators, and sharing the whole trip with you here on YouTube.
If you love travel and flying videos be sure to subscribe to the channel. There's a new one every week, sometimes more!
Filmed on a Canon EOSM6, various GoPros, and sometimes my iPhone. Audio usually from Epidemic Sound.

Qantas Founders Museum in Longreach
We did our Outback Queensland Road Trip recently and took in the sights and experiences of Longreach while travelling.
One of the things you can do in Longreach is visit the Qantas Founders Museum.
This video is a shot of all the planes you will get to see from the outside and also inside if you do the Jet Tour.
The Jet Tour starts with the Boeing 747, then the Boeing 707 which has amazing stories in its history (I won't let you know because it will ruin the surprise if you take the tour), then there is the Qantas DC3.
There is also a separate Museum to what you can see here where they run through the history of Qantas and also see the original Heritage Listed Qantas Hangar with the DH-50 and DH-61 Aircraft in it.
This includes the stories of the founders of Qantas who were, Paul McGinness, Hudson Fysh, Fergus McMaster, and Arthur Baird.
The Qantas Founders Museum also gives you an insight on what it was like to live in the 1920s.
Also inside the Qantas Founders Museum is a flight simulator for you to use, it is the worlds only Bristol Fighter Simulator.
It is pretty good fun to get the hang of flying it too.
What a great experience to learn about where and how Australia's biggest airline was founded.
Lastly, as a New Zealander living in Australia, I didn't realise what the Qantas letters stood for until doing this tour, I thought they had just missed using a u in the airline's name.

Qantas Founders Museum
A long road trip to race to Darwin before the rainy season, we stopped at Longreach to specifically visit the Qantas founders museum.
We did the tour which was guided and explained in detail of the three planes, you have to pay extra to do the wing walk which was well worth the extra.

Longreach - Q.A.N.T.A.S Founders Museum - High Speed Driver's Eye View - Longreach to Barcaldine
I didn’t have much time in Longreach as I was due to catch the Brisbane train early the next morning, fortunately a good friend took me to the museum where I was allowed in before it was officially open. The Q.A.N.T.A.S Founders Museum is well worth a visit, I left wishing I’d been able to spend more time enjoying the exhibits and learning about the Quantas story. I did have time to take a few photos, some of which I have included in this video to give potential visitors an idea of what to expect. I have also included a few shots of the passing landscape taken on my return to Brisbane, along with a High-Speed Driver’s Eye View of the route between Longreach to Barcaldine to give an idea of the vast landscape that is the Outback, showing possibly the longest stretch of straight track I have ever seen. I also got to witness something very rare in Longreach – Rain!!!
PS the “Driver’s Eye View” is fake – filmed from the rear of the train, then reversed.
