Cai Guo-Qiang: Falling Back to Earth (Early work has begin) / 7 News
In an Australian first, GOMA presents a dramatic exhibition, from one of the world's most revered contemporary artists, Cai Guo-Qiang.
This breathtaking exhibition is a reflection of our world through the eyes of a visionary. Spanning the ground floor galleries of GOMA, the scale and beauty of each work has left audiences speechless.
Cai's signature installation 'Head On' 2006, which sees 99 replica wolves leaping in a glorious arch and crashing into a glass wall, is joined by two new, and equally impressive, works commissioned by GOMA. The first, 'Eucalyptus', features a majestic 31-metre gum tree suspended across the gallery, and invites visitors to reflect upon its past, present and future. The second work, 'Heritage', is undoubtedly the centrepiece of the exhibition. Inspired by Cai's visit to Queensland's Stradbroke Island, this huge display is comprised of 99 replicas of animals from five continents, gathered to drink around a tranquil watering hole.

Empathy Swarm
Robots on a holonomic drive platform fitted with Rotacaster Omni wheels interact in a space raising the question: Can robots feel empathy?
Exhibited internationally and showing for the first time in Australia at QUT Art Museum, Donovan and Hochschuh show how a swarm of non-anthropomorphic robots can learn compassionate responses.
Hochschuh (Aachen, Germany) and Donovan (Brisbane, Australia) began collaborating in 2016 in Zurich, Switzerland, exhibiting their work at esteemed venues and festivals throughout the world. Working at the intersection of art and science, their combined expertise allows them to tackle complex projects. How did we get Cai Guo-Qiang's Eucalyptus tree into GOMA?
A number of people have expressed an interest in how 'Eucalyptus', the 30m tree in the centre of the 'Falling Back to Earth' exhibition, actually got into the Gallery. We've created a video to tell this story.

City Botanic Gardens-Brisbane, Australia
The City Botanic Gardens is Brisbane city's oldest park dating back to 1825. These gardens include ancient trees, rainforest glades and exotic species. It's well worth a visit.

'Our Way' Exhibition (UQ Art Museum)
Ortelia created an interactive tour of the internationally acclaimed Our Way exhibition of art from Lockhart River in far north Queensland, held at the University of Queensland Art Museum in 2007.
Ortelia was commissioned to archive the Our Way exhibition in 3D and to deliver an interactive, self-guided tour. The UQ Art Museum at the University of Queensland is now exploring the further use of the existing 3D model created by Ortelia.
The interactive application is distributed by the gallery to school groups. This has increased group participation and extended the reach of the gallery.
