Qal'at al-Bahrain or Bahrain Fort 4K
Qal'at al-Bahrain or the Bahrain Fort is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Portuguese came to Bahrain in the 16th century to control sea trade with ships and fortifications along the coast, including the great Portuguese fort. As you can see in the video, the fort has a modern visitor center and a museum. After visiting the ruins with wonderful views of the surrounding area and Manama, you can stay in the Museum Café with its stunning sea views. From us clearly a trip tip!

40 BD for 2 nights. In my opinion it’s the best hotel to stay in for families in the Manama area if you’re tight on budget, it’s super clean, affordable and away from the Juffair nightclub area.

Archaeological findings, which are unearthed in the fort, reveal much about the history of the country. The area is thought to have been occupied for about 5000 years and contains a valuable insight into the Copper and Bronze Ages of Bahrain. The first Bahrain Fort was built around three thousand years ago, on the northeastern peak of Bahrain Island. The present fort dates from the sixth century AD. The capital of the Dilmun civilization, Dilmun was, according to the Epic of Gilgamesh, the land of immortality, the ancestral place of Sumerians and a meeting point of gods.
The site has been termed as Bahrain's most important site in antiquity. The first excavation at the site was carried out by a Danish led by Geoffrey Bibby between 1954 and 1972, and later by a French expedition from 1977. Since 1987 Bahrain archaeologists have been involved with this work. The archaeological findings have revealed seven civilizations of urban structures beginning with Dilmun empire, the most important ancient civilization of the region. The Danish expedition revealed that it was a notable Hellenistic site.

Bahrain - Pearl on the persian gulf 4K
english/ deutsch:
The Kingdom of Bahrain is a pearl in the persian Gulf. At the turn of the year 2018/19 we once again looked for the sun and spent a week at the Novotel al Dana Resort. In addition to the rest, we also have something to tell each day from the country and people. In this little video we drive through the capital Manama and stop at the #bahrain National Museum, at the old Portuguese fortress Qal'at al-Bahrain, the souk Bab Al-Bahrain and visited the Al Fateh Grand Mosque. From modern Bahrain with a selection of shopping malls, such as the City Center Bahrain, the Moda Mall in the World Trade Center and The Avenues Bahrain right on the waterfront, we were very impressed. The week was over quickly and we were very pleased with our first trip to Bahrain, where there is so much more to see!

360 Qal'at al-Bahrain
A quick tour through the coastal fortress known as Tylos Fort and into the Portuguese Fort which now dominates the ancient capital of Dilmun with the ancient harbor in the background. This area was once the cultural center of one of the world’s oldest civilizations which even in antiquity was known as the “Land of the Immortals.” This is Bahrain's oldest UNESCO Heritage Site: Qal’at al-Bahrain – Ancient Harbour and Capital of Dilmun, a must see for any visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Qal’at Al-Bahrain Audiovisual Experience
The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities has chosen ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño to create and produce the night-time audiovisual show to be projected every night at Bahrain Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it one of the city's most important tourist attractions
The “Qal’at Al-Bahrain Audiovisual Experience” narrates the history of the Fort, which dates to 1522, as well as the archaeological site on which it was built, going back to the year 2300 BC. The show begins with historical and mythological elements from the Dilmun civilization, whose capital was once located beneath the fort, followed over the centuries by the different cultures that have crossed paths on this site.
Projects like this are part of what ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño calls “Cultural Engineering”, using cutting-edge visual and sensorial technology to tell the story of a city or site’s history, tradition and values, boosting its tourist appeal.
Living in Bahrain: Bahrain Fort (Qal'at al Bahrain)
Here's some footage from our trip to the Bahrain Fort (Qal'at al Bahrain), a former Portuguese fortress. The fort was a fun walk through history. The area itself has been occupied as far back as 2300 BC. I recommend this site not only to tourists, but to the many expats living in Bahrain who have never been! Just a note that it's much wiser to go during the cooler months as there was little shade while traversing the fort.

Qal`at al-Bahrain is a typical tell – an artificial moundcreated by many successive layers of human occupation. The strata spreads over a 180,000 sq ft (16,723 m2) area, which encompasses the tell. This testifies to a continuous human presence from about 2300 BC to the 16th century AD. About 25% of the site has been excavated revealing structures of different types: residential, public, commercial, religious and military. They testify to the importance of the site as a trading port over the centuries. On the top of the 12-metre-high (39 ft) mound, there is the impressive Qal`at al-Burtughal (Portuguese fort), which gave the whole site its name, qal`a, meaning fort. As the site was the capital of the Dilmun civilisation, it contains the richest remains of this civilization, which was hitherto only known from written Sumerian references.
The site contains many areas and walls, including Saar necropolis, Al-Hajjar necropolis, Kassite Palace, Madimat Hermand necropolis, Madimat Isa necropolis, Al-Maqsha Necropolis, Palace of Uperi, Shakhura necropolis, and the Northern city wall.[9]The ruins of the Copper Age consists of two sections of the fortification wall surrounding streets and houses, and a colossal building on the edge of the moat of the Portuguese fort in the centre.[5] Barbar pottery has been unearthed around the walls of the central building, dating back to the same age as the Barbar Temples, although some of the other pottery and range of unearthed artefacts indicated that they predated the temples, dating back to 3000 BC or later.Relics of copper and ivory provide an insight into ancient trade links. Many vessels have been unearthed on the site, and Danish excavations of the Palace of Uperi area revealed snake bowls, sarcophagi, seals and a mirror, among other things.
