On the edge of Chengdu, in China's Sichuan province, a ceremony at a historic site honors a genius whose engineering legacy remains after more than two thousand years. The place’s name, Dujiangyan, meaning dam on the capital city’s river is a modest title for an undertaking of incredible scope. The great rivers of China helped the civilization flourish, but also brought devastation during years of severe flooding. In the third century B.C., Li Bing, serving the ruling Qin state, devised this system of weir works—levees, partial dams, and waterways—to regulate the flow of the Min River, the largest tributary of the Yangtze. Upriver from the Chengdu Plain rise the high Longmenshan—Dragon’s Gate Mountains. In springtime, meltwater pours down. By diverting part of the Min at Dujiangyan, Li Bing's system prevented floods and provided consistent irrigation for farming. On the eve of China's Qingming Festival, a day to celebrate ancestors, Dujiangyan hosts the Water Releasing Festival with traditional costumes and events honoring Li Bing, whose historical impact is as clear as the azure water of the Min River.

Travel Vlog | Best River Diverging System of du jiang yan China - Urdu
The Dujiangyan (Chinese: 都江堰; pinyin: Dūjiāngyàn) is an ancient irrigation system in Dujiangyan City, Sichuan, China. Originally constructed around 256 BC by the State of Qin as an irrigation and flood control project, it is still in use today. The system's infrastructure develops on the Min River (Minjiang), the longest tributary of the Yangtze. The area is in the west part of the Chengdu Plain, between the Sichuan basin and the Tibetan plateau. Originally, the Min would rush down from the Min Mountains and slow down abruptly after reaching the Chengdu Plain, filling the watercourse with silt, thus making the nearby areas extremely prone to floods. Li Bing, then governor of Shu for the state of Qin, and his son headed the construction of the Dujiangyan, which harnessed the river using a new method of channeling and dividing the water rather than simply damming it. The water management scheme is still in use today to irrigate over 5,300 square kilometres (2,000 sq mi) of land in the region.[1] The Dujiangyan, the Zhengguo Canal in Shaanxi and the Lingqu Canalin Guangxi are collectively known as the three great hydraulic engineering projects of the Qin.[2] - Wikipedia

The idea
Though being an International student studying in USA four years, I’m still deeply rooted in my own culture and love the place where I grew up - Sichuan(Szechwan), China. It has always been a very popular tourism destination, not only worldwide known for its spicy cuisine. But also for its grand attractions such as The Three Gorges Dam,the Du jiangyan Irrigation System, Mount Emei, giant pandas and abundant ethnical customs and rich social cultures, most of which can date back to ancient times.
Based on these facts , I began to have an idea to make a 60s TV Commercial ink animation as my Graphic Communication senior project. I wanted to present its amazing mountainous landscape and its close relationship with Chinese Buddhism and Taoism.
Emei mountain is one of the most famous scenic spot and buddhist mountain in China.
Qing Cheng mountain, the most important centre for Daoist religion.
Sichuan, it is an amazing place full of rich Chinese culture. It is one of the most interesting place to visit.
Hope you enjoy this and welcome to my hometown.
