Tsingtao Beer Museum and Zhongshan Park in Qingdao, China | Chinese Journey
On our final day in Qingdao, the blue skies return and we visit the Qingdao Beer Museum before heading to Zhongshan Park to see a bird’s eye view of the city. On a beautiful beach we say goodbye to Qingdao while watching locals play and exercise. So many happy memories on this trip. We hope you can visit Qingdao soon and experience the seafood, scenery, and architecture.

Zhongshan Park, Qingdao
A stroll through Zhongshan Park. Things kick off with a clapper -- it wasn't uncommon to see people strolling through the park and clapping...or singing...or chanting...or unleashing an occasional ritualistic shout (e.g., HAIOOOOOAIoooooEEEEAAAAAHHHHHH!). Folks also like listening to music while they walk, but they don't do headphones. It's quite popular to walk around with a smartphone, a small radio, etc., and broadcast your music. It's fair to say that a walk in the park isn't a quiet experience.
The Chinese do love their public parks, and I was surprised by the number of people there in the early a.m. -- many were out for their (loud) morning walks or doing Tai Chi. On one of my early a.m. birding walks, I decided to take a dirt trail off into the adjacent forest to get away from the pedestrian traffic...I ended up crossing paths with several offroad walkers and Tai Chi practitioners. The lesson learned here is that in China, Everyone is Everywhere.

I walked through Zhongshan Park in Qingdao at a Sunday in October 2017 and came across a stunning performance of songs apparently from the chinese opera repertoire. The more and more enthusiastically performing lady has been accompanied by her husband (?) with a woodblock and a small orchestra playing from a mobile speaker.

A Day in Qingdao - China
Qingdao is a city in eastern Shandong Province on the east coast of China as well as one of the largest city in Shandong province. Administered at the sub-provincial level, Qingdao has jurisdiction over seven districts and five county-level cities. As of 2014 Qingdao had a population of 9,046,200 with an urban population of 6,188,100. Lying across the Shandong Peninsula and looking out to the Yellow Sea, it borders Yantai to the northeast, Weifang to the west and Rizhao to the southwest. Qīng in Chinese means green or lush, while dǎo means island.
Qingdao is a major seaport, naval base, and industrial centre. The world's longest sea bridge, the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge, links the main urban area of Qingdao with Huangdao district, straddling the Jiaozhou Bay sea areas. It is also the site of the Tsingtao Brewery, the second largest brewery in China.
In 2016, Qingdao ranks 79th in the Global Financial Centres Index published by the Z/Yen Group and Qatar Financial Centre Authority, the other Chinese cities on the list being Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Beijing and Dalian. In 2007, Qingdao was named as among China's top ten cities by the Chinese Cities Brand Value Report, which was released at the 2007 Beijing Summit of China Cities Forum. In 2009, Qingdao was named China's most livable city by the Chinese Institute of City Competitiveness.
