Via Rail Trip - Quebec City
We went on a trip with Via Rail and our first stop was Quebec City.
In Quebec City, we imagined strolling along the St. Lawrence River, exploring the city center and its small cobblestone streets. We imagined being charmed by its architecture, its history, and of course, its castle.
But in reality, what we remember most is all the unexpected things that we happened upon, that allowed us to experience Quebec City in the most authentic way, far from our original expectations.

Must Visit Quebec City Brewery - La Souche | Quebec City, Quebec Canada
Like us and our fellow Americans, Canadians love their craft beer. So it’s not surprise independent breweries have increasingly become more in demand in Canada. In the mid-80s, there were 10 established breweries. Thirty years later, the number of operations has expanded to approximately 900. Of those, Quebec’s La Souche is worth a stop.
La Souche is an independently owned microbrasserie (French for microbrewery) and restaurant with two locations. If you’re in the heart of Quebec City, grab a table in the neighborhood of Limoilou. We visited the Stoneham restaurant after skiing at the nearby mountain resort. The warm, rustic environment was the perfect way to end a day on the slopes. We appreciated the spacious, high ceilings and natural wood accents. I relaxed back in my chair with a beer in hand and gazed around the space. Eclectic art covers the walls and interesting pieces suspend from the ceiling.

Local or abroad, adventure grants us the incredible opportunity to connect with nature, people, each other and ourselves. We cherish learning about different cultures and also celebrating our universal human experiences. We appreciate chances to push beyond the limits of our comfort zones and discovering new places we feel “at home”. Most of all, we love expanding our awareness of the world around us.
A Weekend Getaway to Old Quebec City
Walking tours are very popular in Quebec City - some people look for great food and wine but we decided to guide ourselves to some sightseeing and a walking craft beer tour of old Quebec City.
We started near the Chateau Frontenac - maybe the most photographed landmark in the country. We found Le Chic Shack a hamburger restaurant with flights of locally crafted beer. It’s just steps from the Chateau Frontenac.
Bar L’Inox Brasserie is in the shadow of the Chateau Laurier on Grand Allay
- lots of great food, drinks and nightlife. I enjoyed an amazing sour beer and a wrapped European hot dog.
A hidden gem nestled in Petit Champlain in one of the city’s oldest houses is Pub L’Oncle Antoine. There is a full menu of local craft beer on tap and in bottles and there is loads of character and ambiance.
A short hike from the tourist areas and definitely off the beaten path, La Barberie was well worth the short walk. The microbrewery had eight beers on tap so we tried the full flight. There was tons of atmosphere. The old tavern feel felt like a place that the locals would hang out to lift a pint. If you’re hungry, they have take-out menus from nearby places that deliver.

Ciel Bistro-Bar, Revolving Restaurant in Quebec
Overlooking Grande-Allée, Le Concorde Québec is an iconic part of Le Concorde is known for its revolving restaurant, Ciel! Québec City's skyline. Long owned by the Loews chain, the famous hotel-located a stone's throw from the Plains of Abraham and the heart of the city's nightlife - has always had that wow factor. On its 28th and top floor, L'Astral had long turned heads before being taken over by the Groupe Restos Plaisirs (Cochon Dingue, Café du Monde, Paris Grill, Lapin Sauté, JaJa la Pizz) in the fall of 2014.
The restaurant needed a facelift, and the change was well worth waiting for! CIEL! is a must for those who want a taste of paradise. CIEL! offers guests a cozy and contemporary restaurant and bar area featuring a 360-degree view of the city. Go full circle in one hour and thirty minutes - just enough time to enjoy a divine meal - while contemplating Québec City from the sky.

Montreal is the most populous municipality in the Canadian province of Quebec and the second-most populous municipality in Canada. Winter in Montreal lasts from December until April. The average temperature in December is a daytime high of -2.3 C / 28 F and a nighttime low of -8.9 C / 16 F.
In winter, we often see snow removal operations everywhere in Montreal City. I filmed this video with my Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus on January 14, 2020. First removal was filmed on Blvd. René-Lévesque West, second one was in the City of Saint-Laurent and the third one near Cote-Vertu Metro.
Thank you and I hope you enjoy watching it!

Nightlife in Quebec is fun! I must say, I don't drink a whole lot - but tonight was the exception. My friends made me have 3 drinks in about 15 minutes before we left the ship. Then we headed to Murphy's bar in Quebec, Canada. The night quickly grew crazy.
Sometime in the night we went next door to another bar. I was a bit too intoxicated to read the sign properly. No clue where I was.
Luckily, the Taxi was able to take us back to the ship without a problem.
Ahhh, Canada. Thank you for the fun nightlife! :)
Walking Tour of Quebec City Downtown
Enjoy a stroll through the historic streets of Quebec City!
Quebec City, officially Québec, is the capital city of the Canadian province of Quebec. The city had a population estimate of 531,902 in July 2016, and the metropolitan area had a population of 800,296 in July 2016, making it the second largest city in Quebec, after Montreal, and the seventh-largest metropolitan area in Canada. It is situated 258 kilometres (160 mi) north-east of Montreal.
The narrowing of the Saint Lawrence River proximate to the city's promontory, Cap-Diamant (Cape Diamond), and Lévis, on the opposite bank, provided the name given to the city, Kébec, an Algonquin word meaning where the river narrows. Founded in 1608 by Samuel de Champlain, Quebec City is one of the oldest cities in North America. The ramparts surrounding Old Quebec (Vieux-Québec) are the only fortified city walls remaining in the Americas north of Mexico, and were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985 as the 'Historic District of Old Québec'.
The city's landmarks include the Château Frontenac, a hotel which dominates the skyline, and the Citadelle of Quebec, an intact fortress that forms the centrepiece of the ramparts surrounding the old city and includes a secondary royal residence. The National Assembly of Quebec (provincial legislature), the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec), and the Musée de la civilisation (Museum of Civilization) are found within or near Vieux-Québec.

At Cafe Parvis, I had the pleasure of having the quinoa salad which contained squash spaghetti, roasted peppers, breadcrumbs, and more. Along with that, I had the mushroom pizza, which included ricotta, parmesan, and buttered herbs. After dinner, we headed back to our accommodation at HI Montreal, which has a bar in the basement. HI Montreal turns into a lively hangout joint by night. The pub crawl begins at HI Montreal. It also ended there for me because I was too dang tired to continue with the rest of the squad! I also don't drink alcohol, but more than anything I was BEAT. I hope this gives you an idea of just how fun Montreal can be when night falls!

TOUR of OLD QUEBEC - BEST THINGS TO SEE and EAT - Travel Vlog
In this vlog, we venture to Old Quebec City, the charming city with European flair that is the capital of the Quebec Province in Canada. We check out the historical sights such as Château Frontenac and National Assembly.
Quebec City is also a foodie destination. We try local specialties such as poutine, the Canadian national dish, as well as the Quebec local cheeses and maple desserts.
Much of Quebec's history is rooted in its river, the Saint Lawrence River. We view the city from across the river in the town of Lévis via the Quebec City ferry which offers stunning views of the skyline.
