Mahanavami Dibba and Queen's Bath in Hampi
The Mahanavami Dibba is one of the most impressive structures in Hampi. It is a beautiful stone platform that is located within the Royal Enclosure of Hampi. It was built during the period of the Vijayanagara Empire in the typical Vijayanagara style of architecture.
It is also known as the Dasara Dibba . The imposing platform attracts a large number of tourists throughout the year.
The Mahanavami Dibba attracts attention as one of the tallest structures in the Royal Enclosure of Hampi. The stone platform has a height of about 12 metres. It is one of the first things that visitors notice as soon as they enter the Royal Enclosure.
The Queen’s Bath in Hampi is a colossal bath that exemplifies the architectural excellence prevalent during the days of the Vijayanagara Empire. It is located close to the entrance of the Royal Enclosure in Hampi.
Constructed during the reign of the Vijayanagara Empire, the Queen’s Bath impresses visitors even today, more than 500 years after it was built.
The Queen’s Bath is believed to be constructed by Achyuta Raya for the women of the royal family of Vijayanagara. Though named as the Queen’s Bath, it was in all probability used as the private bathing chamber of the king and his queens. It is also believed that the lavish bath was a royal pleasure complex. This belief is due to the location of the bath, which is outside the Royal Enclosure.

Hampi - Visit to Queens Bath, Stepped Tank & Elephants Stable
Queen's Bath
---------------------
This is the first ruined structure you would see when you enter into the Royal center from the Kamalapura-Hampi main road.
For some mysterious reasons this was called as the queen’s bath. But in all probability this was a royal pleasure complex for the king and his wives.
The whole building is made with a veranda around facing a big open pond at the middle. Projecting into the pond are many balconies. An aqueduct terminates in the pond.

Elephant Stables
--------------------------
One among the few least destroyed structures in Hampi, Elephant Stable is a major tourist attraction. This long building with a row of domed chambers was used to ‘park’ the royal elephants. There are 11 domed tall chambers; some of them are inter- connected. The center one is specially decorated and big. Probably the musicians and the associated band troupes had been using this during ceremonies involving elephant processions.
The whole building looks symmetric with respect to this central hall. The tower of the central hall resembles (though mostly destroyed) more like that of temples. However the five pairs of domes on either side are of Islamic in style. They are better preserved and of alternating patterns.

Stepped Tank
----------------------
The Stepped Tank is constructed using finely finished blocks of black stones. This Tank was probably used by the royals for religious purpose. The beautiful tank is about 22 square meters and about 7 meters deep. It has five distinct tiers, each fitted with steps set in a pleasing pattern. The marks on the tank and individual blocks indicate the direction of flow of water. The water to this tank was drawn through the intelligently designed stone channels which are well preserved till date.

BIGGEST BATH OF A QUEEN II HISTORY OF HAMPI II EP 07 II QUEEN'S BATH, INDIA II #HAMPIHISTORY
The #Queen'sBath is the first ruined structure you would see when you enter into the Royal center from the Kamalapura-Hampi main road.
For some mysterious reasons this was called as the queen’s bath. But in all probability this was a royal pleasure complex for the king and his wives.
It’s a bit an assuming plane rectangular building from out side. But when you get inside, the story is different.
The whole building is made with a veranda around facing a big open pond at the middle. Projecting into the pond are many balconies. An aqueduct terminates in the pond.
The balconies are decorated with tiny windows and supported by lotus bud tipped brackets. The whole pool is open to the sky. This brick lined pool is now empty. But it’s believed once fragrant flowers and perfumed water filled this bathing pool. At one end of the veranda you can see a flight of steps giving access to the pool. The domical roof of veranda is a spectacle itself.
Just go around the veranda looking at each dome, as they are designed in asset of unique style. Also on the floor of the empty pool you can spot some sockets probably meant to support the pillars that were part of a canopy. The whole building from inside looks like some ancient indoor aquatic complex.
Queen's Bath Outside around the building is a big water cannel encircling the building. You need to cross that at some places where a bridge like structure is made. Probably this was designed to prevent intruders from walking into the place where the royal women folks took bath!
There is a small garden too now made in front for the queen’s bath, a favorite spot for the local picnics groups. The architecture is : Indo-Saracenic in style, may be a bit more Islamic style than the Hindu style of architecture with the arches and other decorations. Admission is free & photography allowed.
This would be the first spot you visit as part of your Royal Area tour, if you begin from the southeast corner. A wide but dusty mud road branches out northward from the main road to Hampi.
In front of this is a parking slot and a few meters away you can spot a toilet facilities (the only ones in this area!) meant for the tourists. Keep a few coins handy for the payment.
Further north the dusty road sneaks its way to the Royal Enclosure, your next stop.
Hampi, also called as ruins of hampi, is one of the most impressive and scenic sites present in India that draws several thousand tourists from across the globe.
In 2018, the New York Times rated one of the 100 places to visit before one dies.
Hampi is world famous UNESCO World Heritage Site situated in the east-central Karnataka, India. It was the center of the Hindu Vijaynagara Empire capital in the 14th century.
Based on the chronicles left by foreign traders such as Persian and European, it is believed that the state of Hampi was a prosperous and grand city.
The Hampi is located on the banks of the Tungabhadra River. This was a bustling city replete with numerous temples, farms and trading markets.
As per the archives left by European travelers and traders, the Vijayanagara Empire was defeated by a coalition of Muslim sultanates and its capital was conquered, looted and destroyed by sultanate armies in 1565, after which Hampi remained in ruins.
The city has been described by UNESCO as an austere, grandiose site of more than 1,600 surviving remains of the last great Hindu kingdom in South India that includes forts, riverside features, royal and sacred complexes, temples, shrines, pillared halls, mandapas, memorial structures, water structures and others.
Hampi empire is a deserted Hindu Kingdom that was famous for its glory and wealth during the 14th century. It is believed that the Hampi was the second largest wealthy city in the world after Beijing and the richest city of India.
Virupaksha temple, one of the main centres of pilgrimage, is one of the main attractions at Hampi. Virupaksha temple is considered the most sacred sanctuary over the centuries. It was built by Lakkan Dandesha, a nayaka under the ruler Deva Raya II also known as Prauda Deva Raya of the Vijayanagara Empire.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, known here as Virupaksha, as the consort of the local goddess Pampadevi who is associated with the Tungabhadra River. There is also a Virupakshini Amma temple (mother goddess) in a village called Nalagamapalle, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, approximately 100 km from Tirupati.

Hampi - The Queen's Bath
The Queen's Bath is a misnomer as it was used by the royal family, rather than just the queen. It is currently undergoing much needed reparation in the form of a complete re-plastering. Not sure if it will resemble the original when it is completed, and judging by my photos from 5 years ago I'm not impressed with the makeover.
