Guiness Cavaliers - The Overture from the Opera Carmen (1966)
From the 1966 Trinidad & Tobago Steelband Music festival Vol. III Finals
Another outstanding performer that night in 1966 at the Queens Hall in Port of Spain was the Guinness Cavaliers from San Fernando.
They placed third in the competition in which each band played two test pieces and a tune of choice.
Their tune of choice was the Overture from the Opera Carmen (Georges Bizet)
My memory from that night is that of their captain and arranger Lennox Bobby Mohammed standing perfectly still in the middle of the band, crashing the cymbals at the appropriate times.
Here, live from the final night of the 1966 T&T Steelband Music festival is the legendary steelband, Guinness cavaliers and their tune of choice.
