Queen's Staircase Bahamas Landmark
Nassau, Bahamas - On Wednesday January 3rd 2018 A visit to the Queen's Staircase in Nassau. Carved out of solid limestone by slaves, the Queen’s Staircase is still considered a great feat of architecture and construction. The stairs were created between 1793 and 1794 and were later named for Queen Victoria to acknowledge her 65 years of rule, honoring her for her drive to abolish slavery. There is 65 steps lead to Bennet’s Hill, about 102 feet above. The staircase is a picturesque destination and a useful one, cutting out much of the journey for those wanting to reach Fort Fincastle and the Nassau Water Tower.

Queens Staircase: Be sure to climb the 102-foot tall Queen's Staircase. There's one step for each year of Queen Victoria's life, and so named in her honor. The 66 steps were carved out of the natural limestone wall by slaves between 1793 and 1794. Originally, the Queens Staircase was built to provide British troops a protected route to Fort Fincastle. The top of this limestone staircase offers one of the best views of the area.

The Queen's Staircase was carved out of solid limestone in 1793-1794 by slaves as an escape route for British Soldiers in the Fort at Nassau, Bahamas. As a gesture of thanks for abolishing slavery, the inhabitants of the island created and named the staircase after the Queen Victoria, the Queen of England at the time.
Queen's Staircase in Nassau Bahamas
While visiting Nassua, Bahamas we rented a scooter and went in search of the Queen's Staircase. We were so glad we did. After having both been to Nassau more than once, we were breath taken by the staircase. It is not elaborate, but is refreshingly cool and is a nice place visit and hear the story of freedom represented by the steps.

Climbing up The Queen's Staircase Nassau, Bahamas
The Queen's Staircase, commonly referred to as the 66 steps, is a major landmark that is located in the Fort Fincastle Historic Complex in Nassau. It was hewn out of solid limestone rock by slaves between 1793 and 1794 and it is said that it provided a direct route from Fort Fincastle to Nassau City. These steps were later named in honour of Queen Victoria, who reigned in Britain for 64 years from 1837 to 1901.
There are only 65 steps visible because the pathway that leads to the steps was paved and the bottom step is buried under the asphalt.
