PICTON, New Zealand (Marlborough): Queen Charlotte Sound Scenic Cruise Vlog l Ep. 14
It's a new day which means we are in Picton, New Zealand! This is an interesting port...if you don't have an excursion booked, you might be bored...you may also be bored on your excursion. LOL. I believe this port is a great port to go wine tasting. I booked my excursion through Norwegian Cruise Line though most cruise lines offer this tour. It is called: QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUND SCENIC CRUISE and here is the description from NCL's website:
“Cruise the pristine waters of Queen Charlotte Sound on a catamaran, rounding the rugged shoreline, taking in the natural beauty and even feeding fish in a serene cove.
Depart right from the pier on a comfortable catamaran designed for optimal viewing on the typically calm waters of Queen Charlotte Sound. Like all of the sounds within the larger system of Marlborough Sounds, Queen Charlotte was formed when the surrounding river valleys filled with water during the end of the last ice age, approximately 10,000 years ago. It's separated from the other sounds by steep, serrated hills.
Scattered settlements dot the rugged shoreline, most of them so isolated that they can only be reached by boat. The landscape and lush forests haven't changed enormously since Captain James Cook sheltered here during his exploratory voyages in the 1770s. Indeed, the unspoiled natural beauty remains one of the primary draws of this magnificent sound named for Queen Charlotte, the wife of England's King George III.
You'll also spend time in Double Cove feeding the fish, which usually include herring, mullet and cod. Don't be surprised if you see king shags, a type of cormorant, swooping in, as they are highly skilled at catching fish. Still, no matter where you sail on the sound, it's the panoramic views that capture your heart and forever remain in your memory.”
As always, make sure to watch in HD for the best video quality! Hope you enjoy! :)

Picton is a small town at the top of the South Island of New Zealand that has more visitor facilities than might be expected because it's the South Island start of State Highway 1 (SH1) when the Cook Strait inter-island ferries dock. For many, it's the gateway to Marlborough and Nelson Bays.
It also serves as a convenient hub for exploring the beautiful Marlborough Sounds. Nearby activities include sailing, SCUBA diving to the wreck of the Soviet passenger cruise ship Mikhail Lermontov, fishing, biking and hiking.

Queen Charlotte Track, Marlborough Sounds New Zealand.
The Queen Charlotte Track is a 71km long New Zealand walking track between Queen Charlotte Sound and Kenepuru Sound in the Marlborough Sounds. It extends from Ship Cove in the north to Anakiwa in the south.
Queen Charlotte Track is the Marlborough Sounds section of the Te Araroa Trail. Te Araroa is New Zealand’s long distance tramping trail stretching 3000km (1850 miles) along the length of the country from Cape Reinga in the north to Bluff in the South.
I walked the Queen Charlotte Track over three days starting out on September 1st 2018. On the first day I was treated to a beautiful fine day, but the other two days it rained heavily on and off. The scenery was beautiful despite the bad weather.
This was the first test of some new gear which I have purchased ahead of my thru hike of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2019. Most of the gear I was very pleased with.

Waikawa Bay - Queen Charlotte Sound
A view from within Waikawa Bay Suburb shows the bay in the early morning. The footage pans across different areas of Waikawa Bay near to the community park and boat ramp and gives a great perspective of how many yachts and boats are moored in the bay.
The footage then shoots off to give a closer look at Waikawa Marina and all the yachts in their berths. Waikawa Marina is New Zealand's third largest marina and is a popular spot for locals and visitors to launch their trailer sailers and launches over the summer time.
The footage was taken early May 2016 with the DJI Inspire 1 V1 using an X3 Camera with a standard lens.
Kayaking in Queen Charlotte Sound New Zealand near Picton Anakiwa
Queen Charlotte Sound, New Zealand
If you take the ferry from New Zealand's north island to the south island, you'll go from Wellington through the ocean/Tasman Sea through Queen Charlotte Sound into the town of Picton.
On this particular day the weather was quite horrible with wind gusts over 100kph/60mph. That doesn't stop a bunch of photographer (crazy people) from getting up on the roof of the ship to get pictures of the startlingly amazing views.
