Queen - The Studio Experience, Montreux Switzerland
Queen's recording studio, Mountain Studios, was located inside Casino Barrière in Montreux, Switzerland. Queen recorded seven albums here between 1979 and 1996. Today the studio has been transformed to an interactive exhibition open to public.
The exhibition includes lots of photos and memorabilia. The control room has not been changed except for the mixer desk, replaced by a reproduction, which allows visitors re-mix some of the Queen classics. The spot where Freddie Mercury recorded his last song is marked within the control room.
The Queen Studio Experience - 2017 | Mercury Phoenix Trust
Greg Brooks, Queen Archivist and curator of The Queen Studio Experience in Montreux, gives a short guided tour of the exhibition. Many rare and previously unseen items, including unused artwork and handwritten lyrics, are on display along with photos, merchandise and memorabilia that related to all the albums that Queen recorded in Mountain Studios.
The feature was filmed over the weekend of September 2nd, when The Mercury Phoenix Trust held it’s annual fundraising event for fans, The Official Freddie Mercury Birthday Party.

In this vlog, I am taking you with me to enjoy Queen Studio Experience in Montreux, Switzerland.
The Queen Studio Experience is an incredibly powerful and moving tribute to British band: Queen and Freddie Mercury’s memory. To see his hand written lyrics on scraps of crumpled paper was pretty amazing.
Fun Fact: Brian May (Queen’s guitarist) has a PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College London. In 2007, he was appointed Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University.

In the Control Room of the former Mountain Studios. A replica of the legendary Neve 8048 studio recording/mixing console with only 10 working faders. A fun toy! You can mix your own version of 4 selected Queen songs.

Freddie Mercury's Statue, Montreux and the Queen Studio Experience

I have been a Queen fan since the mid to late 1970's as a 9 or 10 year old boy (can't remember exactly...too long ago).
My first Queen albums (cassettes) were A Night at the Opera and News of the World, both superb albums with a totally diverse mix of tempo's, styles, lyrics and rockishness.
Both albums include a selection of Queens' classic tracks, some of which have now become rock anthems that are known, loved and sung by many people worldwide.
I am also a huge Deep Purple/Ian Gillan fan and saw them live fairly recently at the O2 in London. One of my favourite Deep Purple songs is Smoke on the Water due to the story it tells of their exploits in Montreux when Frank Zappa burned down the Casino during a gig.
Edit September 2018: Earlier this year I was lucky enough to work of a project that involved a certain Mr Ian Gillan. During the shoot, I was even luckier to have a Dorset country pub lunch with him. What a nice, intelligent and friendly chap he is with a shedload of cool stories! Mr Universe was the first album I ever bought as a young teenager so to meet my rock hero was suuuperb!
It has been on my bucket list for a long time to visit Montreux to see, photograph and film the Casino, Freddie's statue, the Queen Studio Experience, the tribute wall, the mountains and Montreux itself...and I wasn't disappointed.
If you are a Queen fan at any level, I would highly recommend that you make the trip to Switzerland (which is beautiful in its own right) and stay in Montreux for a few days. Try to coincide your stay with one or two of the many events that happen throughout the year as the place really comes alive!
If you plan to put something on Freddie's statue (my daughter made a bracelet for him which I put on his microphone on the last day), please be aware that the Swiss are a proud and tidy nation and all flowers, trinkets and memorabilia will be removed at some point.
I have told my family that when my time comes, I want my ashes scattered on Lake Geneva as this has to be one of the most tranquil, peaceful and beautiful places I have ever been to...

Queen apparently did recordings here from 1975 to 1995. This museum was opened by band member Brian May. This was one of the experiences I won't forget!
