Quidi Vidi Village (The Gut)
A quick look around down at Quidi Vidi Village or the Gut. A beautiful place that attracts tourist every day; either by chance taking pictures of the scenery or visiting Quidi Vidi Brewery, visiting the Plantation Centre or having a bite at the Mallard Cottage. In a few weeks, the Inn by Mallard Cottage will open for our visiting tourists from near and far. Just a wonderful gem lying right in the heart of the St. John's, the capital city of Newfoundland Labrador.
Quidi Vidi Village -- crafting a picturesque travel experience
Quidi Vidi is a charming village-within-a-city, which still embodies the spirit of an old fishing outport.
This picturesque settlement is a mile or so outside the eastern limit of St. John's, and was probably first settled by Europeans in the early 16th century.
Even though Quidi Vidi Village is close to 400 years old, there is still some debate over the pronounciation of the name.
Many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians say Kiddy Viddy, while others lean towards Kwai-da-Vidah or Kitty Vitty.
The latest addition to this ancient village, standing on its own picturesque wharf in an iconic fishing community, is the Quidi Vidi Village Plantation.
The Plantation serves as a craft enterprise incubator for emerging artists wishing to pursue careers as professional craftspeople in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Visitors to the Plantation are welcome to watch, interact with, and support the craftspeople as they produce unique handmade items in a wide variety of mediums.
The building also houses the office of the Quidi Vidi Village Foundation and archival collection. You won't find a more enthusiastic and welcoming group of people anywhere, so be sure to stop by and say hello.
