Monday, July 13th, 2015, Quincy experienced a devastating storm. Straight line winds of up to 80+ miles per hour destroyed over 13,000 trees in the city, many over 200 years old. With Quincy's designation as a Tree City USA, this was felt by the residents in a deep & personal way. Now, a local group called Trees For Tomorrow has taken it upon themselves to replant as many trees as possible, so that future generations will enjoy the same benefits from them as we have had.

The Quincy Veterans' Home is located in the northern part of picturesque, historic Quincy in Adams County. The Quincy home, founded in 1886, is the largest and oldest of the Illinois Veteran Homes. It was the original Soldiers and Sailors Home until 1974 when the name was changed.

Quincy History: Honoring the Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce 2013 Business Hall of Fame
The Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce introduced the 2013 Business Hall of Fame on January 16, 2013. The four inductees were:
William Frederick Gerdes Sr., former president of Michelmann Steel Construction Company, reestablished purpose for the then struggling company and significantly impacted many commercial structures in the Quincy area.
L.A. Andy Nickelson was an employee of Dame and Hurdle Jewelers beginning in 1964 and then later purchased the store from its founders in 1980. Nickelson worked to revitalize the popularity of what is now the Historic Quincy Business District.
Clyde H. Gus Traeder went to work at Montgomery Ward in 1947, becoming manager at the Montgomery Ward Farm Store at 927 Maine in Quincy at the young age of 24 ... where he fell in love with a new product called a go-cart. Traeder became known for bringing TNT Kartways and racing to the Tri-States.
Bernard H. Bernie Willer, former owner and president of Quincy Hardee's Restaurant, entered into a series of entrepreneurial ventures after serving in the Navy during WWII. You may remember Willer for Bernie's soft serve ice cream stores and Sandy's Drive-in formerly located at 2914 Broadway.
