Quinlan Visual Arts Center to Exhibit Annual Savings Thanks to 'Green' Grants and GE LED Lamps
(Gainesville, GA) -- Curbing escalating energy costs has virtually every industry looking to adopt energy-saving practices, and the nonprofit sector is no exception. At the Quinlan Visual Arts Center (Gainesville, Ga.), new LED indoor lighting will reduce the environmental impact from energy production and save on the bottom line. Made possible by the Grants to Green partnership and with product support from GE Lighting, Quinlan will pay about $5,000 less a year to illuminate its building, investing these finances instead in new events and exhibitions.
THE LONA GALLERY - ARTIST SPOTLIGHT - SHIRLEY SHEPHERD
THE LONA GALLERY - ARTIST SPOTLIGHT Presents:
SHIRLEY SHEPHERD
Shirley Shepherd began her art training in the early 70's, working in oils under the teaching of Peggy Sullens in Lilburn, GA. With working full time and raising two children, little time was left to explore art. In 1995, however, Ms. Shepherd was introduced to watercolor by a friend. She loved the boldness of color and the fluidity of working with this medium. She then studied under the tutelage of Lynn Weisbach of Roswell, GA when she was introduced to many forms of watermedia. With her love of color and the excitement of new techniques, this artist has succeeded in becoming a Signature member of the Georgia Watercolor Society and has won several awards in state and regional competitions.
Shirley works in watercolor, acrylic, watercolor pencil, watercolor crayons and loves using textures in the creation of art, including the use of stained Japanese washi papers, fabric, etc. While continuing to learn and grow in her art, she has studied with the following well known workshop instructors.
With striving to perfect these exciting mediums, Ms. Shepherd teaches on an individual level in her working studio in Lawrenceville, GA and at the Bethesda Church Road Senior Center in Lilburn, GA. Current work can be viewed at Framing Artistry in Lilburn, GA and at her studio/gallery in Lawrenceville. Shirley also is regularly juried into shows at the Atlanta Artists Center, Atlanta, GA, Kudzu Art Zone in Norcross, GA, and at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville, GA.
Shirley also teaches watercolor, acrylics, and collage.
