Airport to Quito Ecuador by bus - Skip the taxi and take this fast uncrowded $2 bus
In this video I show you how to take the bus from the Quito Airport into the city of Quito. Skip the $25 to $35 taxi and take a fast, clean, uncrowded $2 bus to the Rio Coca bus station. The bus lets you off in a safe North-Central Quito neighborhood. From there you can take a taxi to the typical tourist or central areas for $3 to $5.
The Rio Coca/Airport bus runs from 5:30 am to 10 pm. There is also a bus from the airport to Quitumbe bus station in the south of the city that runs from 5:30 am to 7 pm. Source for bus schedules:
Other important info for travelers: there are free bathrooms at the airport. At the Rio Coca bus station there are pay bathrooms for 10 or 15 cents, price depending on whether you need toilet paper or not. There are two simple but excellent restaurants near the Rio Coca station. Just walk 2 blocks down the hill to Av 6th de Decembre, then turn left and walk a couple blocks south. You will see a bus stop in the middle of the road with a crosswalk. Cross there and duck into either of the small restaurants with a handwritten sign that says almuerzos. The offer great seco de pollo for breakfast, and their lunch of the day (almuerzo) is always delicious, filling, and cheap... like $2.50 cheap.

Moving to Quito Ecuador in Suitcases
Moving as an expat to Ecuador can be challenging in suitcases. Shipping and taxes are very high to Ecuador so our family has chosen to move in pieces by suitcases by airplane. I hope some of these tips help you with an international move abroad. We are a family of 4 so at this time we get 2 bags free most times of the year. (This excludes peak holiday and summer seasons where passengers are limited to 1 free checked bag) Baggage regulations change often so I can't guarantee fees or number of bags.

Old Quito Airport - Aeropuerto antiguo de Quito
I used this airport around 400 times over 45 years. I believe I flew on all airlines that served the airport during this time except KLM, Ladeco and Aeroméxico. Many of these airlines are now defunct, such as Braniff, Eastern, Viasa, Vasp, Saeta and probably 10 or 15 more. The airport is located a 5 minute drive away from my present house. I even worked at the airport for a year from 1987-88. The new airport is about 1 1/2 hours away, 12 miles as the crow flies but mainly through city traffic.

Quito, Ecuador: El Trole and MetrobusQ
Quito is home to MetrobusQ, a BRT system that is in turn made up of conventional buses, articulated BRT units, and a Trolleybus system. Several lines make up the BRT system. The Trolley, called “El Trole”, was the first BRT line in the city. Troncal Oriental Ecovia and Troncal Occidental are the two other BRT lines. The other buses seen in the video (the regular blue buses) are run by a range of private companies for the city. Although not shown in this video, there are other color schemes that indicate what type of service is run.

Quito International Airport
We arrived at the Quito airport late on the evening of June 19th, after spending all day on a bus from Loja. We had a bite to eat and charged our electronic devices. Our flight left at 5:10 am, which meant that we didn’t have time to go to a hostel. All went well. We had a transfer in El Salvador and went on to LAX.
