An American 4th of July: Antietam Battlefield NHP Sharpsburg, Maryland. | Aquachigger
Join me as I attend the 32nd annual Fourth of July celebration of our American independence from Great Britain. This is typical of how we celebrate here in the US, complete with music and fireworks. This event takes place in the very fields of the battlefield where 23,000 American soldiers were wounded or died during the one day Battle of the Antietam (for you Yankees) or as they call it in the South, The Battle of Sharpsburg. The music is provided by the Maryland Symphony Orchestra and is very entertaining. The event is free and open to everyone.

Re-enacting Retro - Antietam Visit 1981 NPS Museum Film
Re-enacting Retro - Antietam Visit - An Older National Park Service Museum film produced for the Antietam (Sharpsburg) National Battlefield Park in 1981. A nice little film, and one of the best ever produced for the NPS. Great battle scenes shot on portions of the original battlefield and you will have seen parts of this projects used in other documentaries over the years.
We hope you enjoy. This is another in a series of postings on our YouTube channel of a cool New series of Old videos -- featured only on here -- taken from a personal collection of re-enacting films and videos from the 1980s that can't be found anywhere else, or else we've tried to find them for nostalgia's sake, but did our own digging and presenting the results of our treasure hunt here. Taken from VHS originals or DVD transfers from those VHS copies. Originals were in Standard Def or Videotaped off of TV when they first aired. Some shot professionally and others by individuals with portable home video cameras on their shoulders.
Some Classic Re-enacting videos are already searchable on YouTube, but we wanted to start a new series of some rarely or never before seen classics that either only aired once or where short lived and available only to a select few at the time. We hope you enjoy. These programs presented in this RE-ENACTING RETRO series are presented for the enjoyment of all and we don't claim them for ourselves.

Heart of the Civil War GeoTrail, 2017 Award for Excellence in Public Programming
Launched in October 2016, the Heart of the Civil War GeoTrail provides an exciting new way to experience the power of historic places through geocaching, a real-world outdoor scavenger hunt using GPS-enabled devices like mobile phones. In search of geocaches hidden at 16 historic sites across Carroll, Frederick and Washington Counties, participants walk the grounds and read interpretive signage at each site to solve puzzles, which lead them to cache containers. Players who find at least 13 caches bring their completed passport to one of four Visitor Centers for a small prize.
In its first two weeks, over 200 participants from nine states and one foreign country completed the GeoTrail. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many geocachers sharing that the trail inspired them to visit these historic sites for the first time. The project's economic development potential is significant, as an overwhelming majority of participants purchased supplies and meals while enjoying the trail. Geocaching is a very effective tool for connecting the region's rich heritage with new and more diverse audiences, helping to encourage increased engagement with and stewardship of Maryland's historic places. This collaborative project can serve as a model for other Heritage Areas, counties, municipalities, or historic site consortia.
A very small sampling of comments shared through geocaching.com describe the GeoTrail's success in connecting both residents and visitors to the Civil War history found throughout the three-county Heritage Area:
We made the trip from Charleston SC to attend the event and do the Civil War trail geo trail. We had a great time seeing other cachers along the way and learning more about the history of the Civil War.
We must have driven past [Union Mills] Homestead a hundred times and this is the first time we have ever stopped. What a great place to visit. Thanks so much for bringing us here. A favorite.
I never would have known of these less known Civil War monuments and information areas if it weren't for geocaching. Thanks for teaching us so much and bringing us here.
I've lived in this area for almost 30 years and have never been to this side of the Monocacy Battlefield Park. Thoroughly enjoyed the walk to [the cache site], and I learned a bit more about the Battle from the signs there. Thanks for placing this cache here. It gave me an excuse to explore my own neighborhood.

Candlelight Tour 2011- Scenes from the Church
Rural Heritage Museum Candlelight Tour, December 2, 2011
Description of Event:
Step back in time to December 1862 and hear the actual first person tales of destruction, hardship and survival told by the persons who lived in that time. Known persons of Sharpsburg will be brought back to life in the Village and will relate their personal experiences as they moved past the horrible events of September 1862 and worked through sickness, disease and hunger to somehow endure into the Christmas season. The RHM is pleased to partner with Mark Brugh, writer of a living history show, Antietam Anthologies, Mine Eyes Have Seen, to bring real persons and stories to you to help understand the terrible price paid by the citizens of the region following the Battle of Antietam.

Boonsboro MD Countryside -Mavic Pro HD
Recording a little bit of the Boonsboro Maryland countryside using my Mavic Pro. This was my first test flight and it flew great! Great little drone compared to the Phantom, its easy to set up and start flying right away.
I had to land early as a bunch of birds were attacking the little drone. Does anyone have the same issue? I notice birds attack the Mavic more than the Phantoms.
