Cranwell Aviation Heritage Museum - RAF Lincolnshire
Discover the fascinating story of the historic Royal Air Force College Cranwell and become a pilot on the Jet Provost flight simulator.
Royal Air Force College Cranwell is probably one of the most famous landmarks in Royal Air Force (RAF) history. Its long history dates back to 1918 after the amalgamation of the Royal Naval Air Service and Royal Flying Corps who sought to establish a single unit where officers could be trained to fly. It became the first Military Air Academy in the world.

A visit to Lincoln is the perfect base to explore Lincolnshire's rich aviation heritage with an aviation trail in and around the city and fascinating heritage sites just a short drive away.
The city was one of the world's top manufacturers of aircraft during WWI, producing over 3,500 aircraft and 3,000 aero engines. Lincolnshire was home to thousands of airmen during WWII, becoming known as 'Bomber County'.
Today the city is home to the Red Arrows aerobatic display team, often practicing over Lincoln's skies, the International Bomber Command Memorial, and many operating RAF bases.
GB2 CWP Lincoln Shortwave Club @ RAF East Kirkby
This is my final video taken at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre on Saturday 19th April 2014.
This is the radio related video of the day for all my Amateur Radio and Radio Hobbyist subscribers on Youtube.
Firstly I walk around the hanger that has many cabinets with a vast amount of Word War Two radio equipment on display.
Then I pay two visits to the Radio Room that contains a collection of equipment including the likes of the RCA AR88D and National HRO receivers.
The Lincoln Shortwave Club (G5FZ) made me feel very welcome (in fact they kindly opened the shack up at my request....thanks to Steve Burke M5ZZZ and the other Members that were there on the day too).
The special callsign GB2 CWP is to honour Christopher Witton Panton who died in active service in World War II.
The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Museum was set up by his two younger Brothers after RAF East Kirkby near Spilsby in Lincolnshire was sold off in April 1970 as an every lasting tribute to Christopher and the many thousands of Airmen who made the ultimate sacrifice between 1939-1945.
The more modern equipment used by the station of GB2 CWP includes a Kenwood TS570 for HF use and a classic Trio TR9000 multimode transceiver for VHF use.
Two of the vintage receivers shown and the Trio TR9000 are also radios in use of the station of M0OGY.
At the end of this video on the drive home I stopped at a very famous land mark on the Lincolnshire Wolds situated on the side of the B1225.
This is the Belmont Transmitting mast that was built in 1965.
Prior to the digital change over and them lowering the power from 500KW E.R.P and removing a section from the top of the mast this was considered the tallest structure of its kind in the World at 1272 ft (387.7 metres).
Now the mast stands at 1154 ft (351.65 metres).
In 1964 a twin tower was built at Emley Moor near Huddersfield in Yorkshire, but sadly on the 19th of March 1969 that mast collapsed due to guy failure due to ice and high winds!.
Belmont transmits TV programs across Lincolnshire,East Yorkshire and Northern parts of Nottinghamshire and Norfolk.
This is the mast my own TV antenna is pointed towards.
Thanks for viewing the video and I'll catch you on the next one.......

Avro Lancaster Bomber Just Jane Start Up!
This is my second video taken on the 19th April 2014 at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at the former RAF East Kirkby in England.
I travelled there for a Ford Capri car show that was taking place at the museum that I have shown in a previous video.
I was surprised there was a World War Two weekend taking place with various vintage transport over the weekend.
The highlight of the day, without A doubt was the three taxi runs by the Avro Lancaster B VII (NX611) that is called Just Jane.
Previous to it's time owned by the Panton Brothers, I remember this plane when I was a Child in the 70's and early 80's been the Gate Guardian at RAF Scampton on Ermine Street on the way to the city of Lincoln.
At the present moment in time this great aircraft is not in air worthy condition , but I'm sure sooner or later it will fly once more.
I believe there are only seventeen complete Lancasters based in various countries throughout the World.
There are only two Lancasters in the world that are currently flying.
One is with the Battle of Britain Memorial flight Lancaster BI PA474 City of Lincoln but in recent times has been renamed Thumper after the 1942 Disney rabbit from the film called Bambi.
The second plane is based at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and is a Lancaster B X (FM213) and has the name Mynarski Memorial in honour of the Canadian VC recipient Andrew Mynarski.
For the summer of 2014 the Canadian aircraft is flying over to the United Kingdom in various legs to take part in airshows throughout the summer months with the British based plane.
Lets hope they both fly over RAF East Kirkby when Just Jane is running too!.
That would be a spectacular sight for sure.
I have a third and final part video to upload showing various radio equipment and the Lincoln Shortwave Club's Amateur Radio shack.
I strongly recommend a visit to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at the former RAF East Kirkby, it is a great day out.
Best Regards,
Dave,
North Lincolnshire,
United Kingdom.

Dambusters - RAF Scampton - Guy Gibson's Office & Red Arrows
On our Dambusters Tour for the Porsche Club's Lincolnshire Region we began at RAF Scampton. After parking near Nigger's grave for photographs with two of the Red Arrows as a backdrop, we went inside to view the splendid Dambusters museum where we were privileged to see Guy Gibson's Office and take photos at his desk. One of the group had worked at the base previously and had plenty of stories to tell......
