RAF Lincolnshire
A visit to Lincoln is the perfect base to explore Lincolnshire's rich aviation heritage with an aviation trail in and around the city and fascinating heritage sites just a short drive away.
The city was one of the world's top manufacturers of aircraft during WWI, producing over 3,500 aircraft and 3,000 aero engines. Lincolnshire was home to thousands of airmen during WWII, becoming known as 'Bomber County'.
Today the city is home to the Red Arrows aerobatic display team, often practicing over Lincoln's skies, the International Bomber Command Memorial, and many operating RAF bases.

Gone- Ghosts of RAF Bomber Command
The great sadness of war for those that survived is the memories of friends and comrades who never returned. Three quarters of a century after the war many of those airfields that once echoed to the sounds of those mighty aircraft lay silent. A ghostly reminder of a time when life and death seemed simply to be a matter of chance.
A short film in honour of all who served
Lancaster Tour 2014 with a final flypast from home as Vera Leaves
Short compilation from their first formation flight, possibly the longest display in perfect weather. Then the flypast from my home with the Vulcan. A lovely flypast at Wickenby, a local small airfield, again in perfect weather. Taxiing at Conningsby and another flypast at my home as Vera leaves for Canada, together with 2 Spitfires and 2 Hurricanes. Again in perfect weather. It's been an honour and a privilege, all local and free.

-----IMPORTANT-----
We are not Historians. We are two ordinary chaps who are learning about WW2 history and documenting our journey. We are exploring this period of history from the sides of both the Allies and Axis. Those with sympathetic views towards the Nazi regime or hold any type of extreme views are not welcome here on WW2 Nation.

A Tribute to the men of Bomber Command.
A 1940's re-enactment weekend at the Linconshire Aviation Heritage Centre, East Kirkby, Lincolnshire. The film was made in June 2012. The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre is the only Airfield Museum in the Country recreated to its original design sited on an original WW2 airfield.
There is an Avro Lancaster Bomber, NX611, Just Jane, which performs four engine taxy runs. The only place in the world you can see this performed on an original airfield. Douglas flew on missions and makes this moving tribute to the men who lost their lives.
2 Lancaster bombers showing us how its done with 8 merlins ;)
23rd Sept 2014, Vera and Thumper start their engines ready for the final flypast as Vera leaves the UK to head home to Canada......
Haunted RAF Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire - EVPs on Dispersals and Aircraft sound
An investigation in 2012 in Ostlers Plantation - which has remains of dispersals and bomb stores of former RAF Woodhall Spa within. A very interesting place, which if I lived closer I would spend a lot more time at investigating.
I went to this location with Glen & Sally Jolly, whose kindness to me while researching RAF Woodhall Spa I will never forget
Listen to the captured aircraft flyover - we didn't hear it...this is RAF Coningsby airspace and the BBMF wasn't airborne
hope you enjoy...this took a lot to process

RFC Buckminster, Lincolnshire - WW1 Airfield EVPs
Taken by my friend David at the site of former RFC/RAF Buckminster - a First World War airfield near Colsterworth in Lincolnshire
as pointed out to me by David I seem to have placed the airfield just a tad to the east on my location map - apologies to all for that...
Buckminster opened in October 1916 for No 38 Home Defence Squadron engaged in Nightfighter patrols.
When No. 38 moved to France in 1918 No. 90 Squadron reformed at Buckminster equippped with FE2bs for Night Fighter patrols. In the same year No 1 Prisoner of War MT depot formed at the airfield to help in the construction of an Air Acceptance Park
With the signing of the Armistice, the construction work was abandoned, the permanent buildings which had been erected remain¬ed for several years but the RAF made no further use of them
On the 13 June 1919 No. 90 Squadron disbanded and the Home Defence Flight Station, AAP Park and No. 1 Prisoner of War MT Repair Depot all closed.
By the 6th of November the relinquishent of RAF Buckminster was notified, and on the 22nd of January 1920 Buckminster was abandoned and the site was returned to agriculture with some Ironstone extraction on a part of the site
My thanks to David for this recording - Headphones essential as it was very noisy - taken in the open beside a busy road.

Lancaster Bomber flypast over Wickenby
Unexpected bonus of my first trip to Wickenby - a flypast to mark their annual Memorial Day. Turn up the sound!
Two Lancasters over Windermere Sept 07 2014
Vera and Thumper doing a flypast over Brockhole in the Lake District today..Awesome sound and sight to see them together at last..pity it was just one flypast
A pair of Lancasters at RAF Strubby, 24th August 2014
::EDIT:: View my Google photo page for a full RAF Strubby photo album, including photos of the memorial.
The memorial dedication ceremony at RAF Strubby. Very short bit of footage of the Flypast from the BBMF Lancaster and the Canadian Lancaster. There were hundreds of people there, I thought Metheringham was busy last week for the 3 sisters flypast, but that was nothing compared with Strubby :oO. I've no idea what happened with the Memorial as it was so busy, although we did see a lot of veterans :).
Rumour was that the Red Arrows were doing a flypast at 5pm, they past us just near Wickenby at 17:05 so I hope they did :) we didn't stay for it though as we needed the loo and couldn't find any portaloos lol :D (TMI? lol).
