Hells Gate, Boston Bar, B.C., Canada by RSamson
Named Hells Gate in 1808 by explorer Simon Fraser. For CENTURIES the indigenous people fished at this abrupt narrowing of the Fraser River. In 1914 the Canadian Northern Railway accidentally triggered a massive landslide that blocked the gorge and prevented salmon from returning upstream to spawn. In 1915 all the slide debris was cleaned up and the site declared fully restored; however, biologists worried that the resulting change of current would affect the salmon run. In 1913 an estimated 2,500,000 salmon reached the Fraser River spawning bed. After the slide In 1915 it was 150,000. In 1941 it was estimated that 1100 fish reached the spawning bed. In 1944 construction began to build passageways to enable the salmon to bypass the current and was opened in 1945. By 1973 it was estimated 250,000 reached the spawning bed.. By 1983 it was 800,000. etc., etc. Today the Fraser River is known as one of the worlds best salmon rivers!
An airtram and buildings were added and opened as a tourist attraction in 1971.

REO Rafting - Nahatlatch River BC
REO conducted the first-ever Nahatlatch raft descent in 1982 and continues the tradition today. REO's Nahatlatch trips near Vancouver BC Canada are rated one of the best adventure travel values in Canada - come experience for yourself.
What makes the Nahatlatch so addictive and perfect for rafting is the near-continuous, rapid-fire white water. The Classic section features 25 rapids over a 10 km (6 mile) stretch and an average gradient of 85 feet per mile.
The Nahatlatch Classic is far more exciting than other rivers near Vancouver or Whistler. In fact, few rivers in North America offer such continuous action yet are still suitable for first-time rafters.

REO Nahatlatch Rafting Part 3
My experience with my Dad, passengers Charles and Allan, and our guide Tyler down the Nahatlatch River. As my graduation gift, I received a GoPro Hero3+ and two tickets to a variety of choice packages offered by REO Rafting, of which I chose the most exciting, a run down the Stein River (boasting level 5 rapids, from a scale of 1-6 with 6 being suicidal), and a training run down the Nahatlatch River with level 3 and 4 Rapids. After spending a day with REO's amazing facilities, we rode the Nahatlatch, and a day after that we rode the Stein. I enjoyed every minute of that weekend, and I hope to go again soon. Check it out with your friends!
