RNLI Llandudno's 'Andy Pearce' Mersey Class Lifeboat
In late September 2017, Llandudno's new Shannon Class Lifeboat William F Yates is due to arrive on station and will be housed in the new boathouse currently being completed at Craig-y-Don near the Little Orme. Within a few weeks of this occurring, Llandudno's current Mersey class carriage launched lifeboat Andy Pearce will be withdrawn from station marking the end of a long history of the town's lifeboats being pulled through the town to be launched by horses, manpower or tractor. Llandudno is the now the only All-weather lifeboat station in the British Isles with a lifeboat kept in the centre of a town. To mark this historic change, TV Conwy have kindly produced a video which we hope you will enjoy. We are very grateful to TV Conwy for their support with this project.

Wales floods: RNLI rescue in St Asaph block of flats.
An RNLI flood rescue team has used a boat inside a block of flats in St Asaph to evacuate a victim of the floodwaters.
About 500 homes were evacuated in the city in Denbighshire when the river Elwy burst its banks, breaking through defences and turning streets into rivers.
Severe flood warnings - categorised as a danger to life - have been declared for two stretches of the river.

The video sequence has been produced in response Conwy County Borough Council’s erection of cycle prohibition signs on Conwy Bridge and Cob. Inexperienced cyclists including school children are being forced to use a busy narrow carriageway over the entire length of the highway between Conwy and Llandudno Junction. Hoylake RNLI Lifeboat tows yacht Drift Away into Liverpool
Liverpool Coastguard requested the launch of Hoylake ALB to assist a 40ft yacht Drift Away with engine problems. The casualty, on passage to Liverpool Marina from Conwy, was struggling in the strong easterly wind. Two crew members were transferred aboard the casualty to assist with the sails and connecting the tow. Once the vessel was towed to the safety of the marina, the lifeboat returned to station.

Hoylake RNLI lifeboat tows 9 metre yacht with engine failure into Liverpool Marina
SHOUT: In the early hours of Mothering Sunday (31st March 2019), Hoylake RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat was tasked to assist a 9m yacht which had suffered engine failure. With three people on board, she was drifting in choppy seas close to the main shipping lanes of the River Mersey.
Having set off from Holyhead the previous evening bound for Liverpool, the crew decided to alert the Coastguard and Hoylake’s volunteer lifeboat crew were paged to assist.
Shortly after the hour shift to British Summer Time, RNLI volunteer crew responded to the 4.25am page and the charity's Shannon class lifeboat 'Edmund Hawthorn Micklewood' was launched. Having located the vessel, they soon took it under tow and into the River Mersey via the Rock Channel. The yacht was guided into Liverpool Marina lock before the RNLI volunteers assisted the grateful crew to berth onto the pontoon.
After a happy ending, the all-weather lifeboat returned to Hoylake RNLI lifeboat station at 9.00am, where the shore crew made her ready for service once again.
Hoylake RNLI Coxswain Andy Dodd said: ‘The crew of the yacht had all of the right safety equipment on board and did the right thing by calling the Coastguard in the circumstances. Being so close to the busy shipping lanes of the River Mersey, the yacht and its crew could have soon found themselves in a dangerous situation had they not been taken under tow.’
‘We were pleased that we could finally bring them to the safety of the marina after their difficult journey from Holyhead.’
Volunteers of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution are on standby ready to fulfil their duty in search and rescue operations 24, or in this particular case, 23 hours a day!
