RSPB AT DUNGENESS - KENT
#RSPB #DUNGENESS #BIRDS #DUCKS #SEAGULLS
This is the video of our hastily arranged visit to the RSPB at Dungeness, after not being able to go bird ringing.
The biggest thing missing from this video is the useful info on exactly what waterfowl and birds we were seeing. Very slack indeed. It's basically the result of non preparation of content.
The same old issue I always have. Just do it off the cuff and don't plan anything.
Hope you enjoy. It's a bit longer than most of my vids but never mind.

DUNGENESS - A landscape unlike any other in Britain, or possibly even the world
'A landscape unlike any other in Britain, or possibly even the world' (The Guardian).
'Dungeness is unique -- no boundaries, a desolate landscape with wooden houses, power stations, lighthouses and expansive gravel pits. Yet it possesses a rich and diverse wildlife within the National Nature Reserve in one of the largest shingle landscapes in the world.
Dungeness has been designated as a National Nature Reserve (NNR), Special Protection Area (SPA) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). It is home to 600 species of plants which is a third of all plants found in the UK. The National Nature Reserve stretches across Dungeness to encompass the vast RSPB reserve and is intended to help protect the landscape and its wildlife.' (

Dungeness
First planned video which didn't quite go to plan. The plan was a dull day, that didn't happen instead clear blue skies blazing sun. But my biggest problem was the wind not personally.
I've been to Dungeness many times before so I should have known better about the constant wind, but this day it was howling.
Unfortunately it was 40 minutes into shooting even with a heavy tripod I noticed the little Legria was getting blown about (LCD, Hand strap were wobbling) I though well if there moving so was the footage. I tried shielding the camera from the gusts, but they were coming from all directions so there are one or two scenes especially at the beginning which are a bit shaky.

Dungeness - Lighthouse, Power Station & RSPB
It's May bank holiday and we take Herman to the south-east coast to Dungeness. This is where the famous nuclear power station is located along with a steam train and a couple of lighthouses.

Summer in Dungeness
Dungeness is a truly strange place situated on the south coast of Kent, United Kingdom. Its enormous shingle desert with old beach huts and boat corpses looks like a piece of landscape from another planet. If you liked the location you are advised to watch The Dead Boats Coast short movie which was shot in Dungeness by me a month earlier. It is easy to find it on my channel.

Dungeness
This is a short video in Dungeness, Kent in the south of England which I shot whilst waiting for my boat to France.
The place looks generally post-apocalyptic, and so I tried to play that up; I shot almost everything deliberately over-exposed to wash out the sky and colour graded quite aggressively to that theme too.
Shot on a Canon EOS 550d / Rebel T2i DSLR with the Technicolor CineStyle picture profile using three very cheap lenses; the 18-55mm kit lens, a Nikon 50mm f1.4 prime and the Canon 75-300mm zoom.
Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro.
Colour graded with Red Giant Software's Magic Bullet Looks.

Places to visit in the UK - Kent, Dungeness
Dungeness is a headland on the coast of Kent, England, formed largely of a shingle beach in the form of a cuspate foreland. Highly recomended as a place to visit in the UK.
Steeped in history Dungeness, Kent has been featured on the album cover of Pink Floyd. In television, the Dungeness landscape, the lighthouse and the power station have been used on digital channel E4 at the beginning and end of advertising breaks. It was used as a backdrop for 2 part ITV drama The Poison Tree. It featured in an episode of the BBC detective serial The Inspector Lynley Mysteries and in March 2007 was the setting for a major part of an EastEnders special. The BBC filmed episodes of Doctor Who in Dungeness during the 1970s. The 1981 fantasy film Time Bandits shot its 'Time of Legends' sequence on the beach, and Dungeness was used to film a scene in Danny Boyle's Trance.

Filmed on a weekday in mid-October, during the proposed annual six-month quarrying window (when the applicants for the quarry claim there aren't tourists or visitors to Dungeness to be concerned by). If permission for the quarry is granted then these and all other visitors will have the share the narrow roads and pathways across this internationally protected nature reserve with 30 tonne Moxy trucks.
