Places to see in ( Weymouth - UK )
Weymouth is a seaside town in Dorset, southern England. Its sandy beach is dotted with colorful beach huts and backed by Georgian houses. Jurassic Skyline, a revolving viewing tower, and Victorian Nothe Fort offer harbour views. Weymouth Sealife Park is home to sharks, turtles and stingrays. On the fossil-rich Jurassic Coast is pebbly Chesil Beach. A causeway leads to Portland Island with its lighthouse and birdlife.
Weymouth is a seaside town in Dorset, England, situated on a sheltered bay at the mouth of the River Wey on the English Channel coast. The town of Weymouth is 11 kilometres (7 mi) south of Dorchester and 8 kilometres (5 mi) north of the Isle of Portland. The town's population is 52,323 (2011). The town is the third largest settlement in Dorset after the unitary authorities of Bournemouth and Poole.
Weymouth is a tourist resort, and its economy depends on its harbour and visitor attractions; the town is a gateway situated halfway along the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site on the Dorset and east Devon coast, important for its geology and landforms. Weymouth Harbour has included cross-channel ferries, and is home to pleasure boats and private yachts, and nearby Portland Harbour is home to the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, where the sailing events of the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games were held.
The A354 road bridge connects Weymouth to Portland, which together form the borough of Weymouth and Portland. The history of the borough stretches back to the 12th century; including involvement in the spread of the Black Death, the settlement of the Americas, the development of Georgian architecture, and preparations for World War II.

Weymouth and Lodmoor Country Park off Preston road, County of Dorset, England. ( 2 )
Having seen the small example of Sand Sculptures on Weymouth Beach on the last few visits I decided to visit Lodmore Country Park in Weymouth where a larger amount of Sand Sculptures are on display there. If you love the sand sculptures on the beach, you will absolutely love Sand World. Founded by local businessman David Hicks and Mark Anderson, Weymouth’s resident sand sculptor and Grandson of Fred Darrington, who together clock up an impressive 95 years of carving out of the famous Weymouth sands. In it’s eighth season, Sand World is a unique art gallery with a difference. Sand World in Weymouth, Dorset, is the UK's only all weather Sand Sculpture Festival. It is home to awe inspiring sculptures made entirely from Weymouth sand and water, some the size of a double decker bus. A different theme each year and ongoing projects throughout the season ensure that each trip to our attraction is a unique one.
We showcase enormous, breathtaking, life-sized works of art, created entirely out of sand and water by visiting world class, award winning sculptors. 2018 theme is TV & Film and will feature an enormous Star Wars scene, Game of Thrones, The Jungle Book, Super heroes & X-Factor to name but a few. Once inspired by the amazing art, the exciting bit happens; you get to have a go at creating your own masterpiece, be it a R2-D2, Spiderman or a Snake - anything is possible, as we have skilled staff and the necessary tools to guide you. There is a small cafe there along with a child’s section for making Sand castles etc.

The park itself is worth a visit there are enough attractions to spend a whole day here and its right on the sea Front section of Weymouth. Lodmoor Country Park is just a 15 minute stroll from the Esplanade and through Greenhill Gardens. You'll discover a host of independent attractions providing something of interest to entertain everyone. Access to most of the park is free and you can enjoy the numerous sport and recreation areas, wander around the footpaths and nature reserve or enjoy a picnic or barbecue.
Facilities
A small cafe provides refreshments for visitors to the park.
The Lodmoor pub has a large restaurant but also caters for passing lunchtime trade.
Picnic tables and barbecue stands available for the public to use throughout the year.
Public and disabled toilet facilities open 24 hours a day all year round are available to visitors.
The park is wheelchair accessible and level but with informal gravel pathways.
Pay and display car park provides ample parking for cars and coaches.
Spoonbill at Lodmoor RSPB Reserve, Weymouth
Just a few hundred metres away from the 2012 Olympic sailing events in Weymouth Bay this lonely spoonbill was feeling a bit left out of it. Everyone was looking out to sea instead of at him. He got my attention though. Note that this is a young bird, with black tips to the wings, not one of the two adults that I filmed earlier in the year, see

Bowleaze Cove
Bowleaze Cove has shallow tides with a predominantly shingle beach and is joined by the River Jordan. It is on the World Heritage Jurassic Coast in Dorset, north east of Weymouth and just slightly south of Preston. Overlooking the beach is the Spanish styled Riviera Hotel.
Take in views of Weymouth and RSPB Lodmoor and you can walk from Bowleaze Cove to the seafront of Weymouth. Apparently even the Osmington White Horse can also be seen from the Cove.
There is a cafe, takeaway, gift shop, Ice Cream parlour, beach side bar, parking and even a Monday market and boot sale.

RSPB: Canvey West Marsh (3rd April, 2017)
Took a trip a while back to a new(ish) nature reserve on Canvey Island. Not a great deal seems to have settles there just yet, but it looks promising. Great to see the early uptakers - especially the Little Egrets who seem to be breeding very well.

moorhen in hunting mode
I always assumed that moorhens were exclusively herbivorous, like coots, but this video shows a moorhen hunting worms at Lodmoor RSPB reserve, Weymouth. It's not slowed down, the bird really was moving this slowly. This might have been due to the fact that it was wading through deep mud under the water but also it is clearly searching very intently for any worms that are disturbed.
