One of the many successes in 2012 at RSPB has been the Ravens, a pair settled down and successfully raised some chicks earlier this year, and the ravens can still be regularly seen up on the heath towards the old fort...
They had their nest in the tall trees to the left of the trail that runs beside the road up to the old fort, funnily enough near where the hobbies raised a family last year. I was lucky to spot one right up in the top of one of the trees as we had a very early morning walk in the sun, and here's the footage :)

Whenever you visit The Lodge Bird Reserve at Sandy, RSPB's headquarters you stand a great chance of seeing Green Woodpeckers or Great Spotted Woodpeckers, I have been lucky to accumulate a fair amount of footage of them on the different feeders both down at Meadow Hide and up at the Gate House, but this one I find a fun bit of footage. It isn't the clearest, lots of people nattering away in the hide but it's the birds themselves that make this. Both Dad and one of the Juveniles together on a lazy warm sunny day in July.... it just feels right to have this bit of footage captured up on the channel :)

Sunday was a horrid wet day up at the RSPB The Lodge Reserve in Sandy, when we got there at 7:30 in the morning it was just starting to rain... and the ground was still quite dry, but when we left a few hours later it was waterlogged everywhere.... It meant that the Hide was quiet, in fact we didn't have anyone pop in for over 3 and a half hours. It did though allow us to catch this early bird wondering around the front of the Hide, a Red Legged Partridge which was lovely to see :)
I have seen Red Legged Partridges out and about but to be able to see this one up closer along with it's dramatic entrance was good fun :)

Whenever you pop up to the Meadow Hide at RSPB Sandy, you are likely to come across this pair of pheasants, always fun to watch they do have ways of providing entertainment.
As you will see they have a unique way of getting seed out of the feeders if there isn't any spilled seed left on the ground.

Mike and I were just having a sandwich and a drink outside the gatehouse when we saw some movement in the undergrowth... a small rabbit had popped out of a bush about 20 feet away to have a nibble... so I couldn't miss the chance to capture it on film :)

After successfully raising a previous brood of youngsters the spotted flycatcher couple are having another go in the nest box around the side of the gatehouse at RSPB Sandy nature reserve, near Sandy in Bedfordshire. Early on a Sunday morning I set up the camera on a tripod and did some filming to see what I could see and here it is for you to see :)

A few times we have been up at the RSPB Sandy Reserve at dusk, when the Muntjac Deer like to come out, this time we managed to get one on film as we walked around towards the back garden of the lodge itself which is the UK Headquarters of RSPB.... :)

On one of our travels to RSPB The Lodge reserve in Sandy Bedfordshire Mike spotted some activity on one of the nesting boxes next to the picnic area and bird feeders at the Gatehouse. I zoomed in quickly and managed to capture a bit of movement from a Blue Tit that was busy building a nest in the box :)

We popped up to Sandy on the way back from Deadman's hill, and the dragonflies were around, there were some brown hawkers on Sandy Ridge, and a couple of Emperor Dragonflies on the pond at the back of the lodge, Mike spotted this one having a bit of a sun bathe... so I grabbed some footage before he took off...
I believe it's a common darter :)

Today I am in Sandy in Bedfordshire at the RSPB Headquarters in search of The Lodge. I am with Simon and Sharon Brown. My guides take me for a walk along the open heath and woodland in search of an iron age hill fort, an abandoned sand quarry and the Victorian house, affectionately called The Lodge which these days house the offices of the Royal Society of the Protection for Birds.

When we arrived at the RSPB the lodge reserve in Sandy we were told by a couple of people passing by that Crossbills were showing quite well down at the Meadow hide, apparently they were visiting the pond furthest away and occasionally the feeders. Usually when we have gone along before they have been quickly appearing and only those with the powerful lenses were able to get a picture, but this time as you can see the birds popped to the pond in front of the hide.
They were there for only a few seconds but we managed to get some Crossbill footage, and what lovely birds they are, sorry about the noise and the door slam that shook everything, an over enthusiastic young boy crashed through the hide door :)
