In the afternoon we sailed towards Rabida Island. The landscapes of the island are visually Stunning. It's the top of an old volcanic cone bathered in Crimson. The rocks and sand are hued brilliant red and sit amid coves of clear blue waters. After a wet landing we walked on a rocky and steep trail for about one mile.
Rabida has a salt water lagoon, where there used to be flamingos, but now the lagoon is occupied by sea lions and the flamingoes have dissapeard. we also saw Darwin's finches, Galapagos hawks, ducks, white-cheeked, sea lions, penguins and brown pelicans.

Bartholomew and Rabida Islands Galapagos
Bartolomé Island is a volcanic islet in the Galápagos Islands group. It is a volcanic islet just off the east coast of Santiago Island. It is one of the younger islands in the Galápagos archipelago. This island, and Sulivan Bay on Santiago island, are named after naturalist and lifelong friend of Charles Darwin, Sir Bartholomew James Sulivan, who was a lieutenant aboard HMS Beagle.

Rábida Island, The Galápagos Islands - Ecuador, South America
In 2019 I spent 8 Days on an amazing Boat Tour Of The Galápagos Islands. Here is a selection of short video diaries of my trip. Day 7 Rábida Island has a bright, red sand beach. And when I say red, I mean red! A short walk along the beach was punctuated by watching a young sea lion come out of the water, cover himself & slump in the red sand. At one end, we were treated to a diving & fishing display from a few pelicans & cormorants. To see more of my adventures why not subscribe to my blog?

Bartolomé island, Galápagos
Bartolomé Island (Spanish: Isla Bartolomé) is a volcanic islet in the Galápagos Islands group. It is a volcanic islet just off the east coast of Santiago Island. It is one of the younger islands in the Galápagos archipelago. This island, and Sulivan Bay on Santiago island, are named after naturalist and life-long friend of Charles Darwin, Sir Bartholomew James Sulivan, who was a Lieutenant aboard HMS Beagle.
With a total land area of just 1.2 km², this island offers some of the most beautiful landscapes in the archipelago. The island consists of an extinct volcano and a variety of red, orange, green, and glistening black volcanic formations.
Bartolomé has a volcanic cone that is easy to climb and provides great views of the other islands. Bartolomé is famous for its Pinnacle Rock, which is the distinctive characteristic of this island, and the most representative landmark of the Galápagos.
It has two visitor sites. At the first one, you may swim and snorkel around Pinnacle Rock; the underwater world there is really impressive. You can snorkel with the penguins, marine turtles, white-tipped reef sharks, and other tropical fish. The bay is also an excellent place to go swimming. The twin bays are separated by a narrow isthmus.
Galápagos penguins are frequently seen, and a small cave behind Pinnacle Rock houses a breeding colony. Seasonally, Bartolomé is the mating and nesting site for the green turtles. With herons, they make use of the gentler beaches. The Galápagos Lava cacti colonize the new lava fields.
