Father-son Duo die in a drowning incident in zuari river at rachol while immersing relative's ashes
What should have been a routine immersion of ashes in water, A Father and Son duo who had gone to release the cremated remains of their relative in the river at Rachol got drowned in the river on Thursday. Father Prasad Shirvoikar aged 43 years was an employee of the Kadamba Transport Corporation and Son Damodar, 18, was a student at Industrial Training institute. The duo hailed from Borda, Margao.
Ilha de Rachol
Ilha de Rachol is a small village by the river Zuari, near Margao. The fact that is is surrounded by flooded fields does give it an appearance of an island, as the name suggests.It has some very nice houses and a beautiful location. Part of it is quite poor and a lot of houses have obtained funds for renovation from the Indira Awaas Yojana.

RAIA, RACHOL OPPOSES SHIRODA BRIDGE
Villagers of Raia and Rachol, fearing demolition of homes, religious structures and accidents due to the resultant rise in traffic, are opposing the proposed construction of a bridge to connect the villages of Shiroda and Rachol.
At a public meeting in Raia on Wednesday, the people
resolved to ask the government to scrap the bridge and argued that roads in the twin villages do not have the carrying capacity for traffic of Shiroda, Panchwadi and Dharbandora.
It was also suggested at the meeting that the government explore an alternative alignment from Shiroda to Borim by reconstructing the old Borim bridge.
Fr Victor Ferrao of the Rachol seminary who addressed the meeting claimed
that the proposed bridge will affect the serenity around the historic Rachol Church and seminary.
Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco wondered why the villagers of Raia and Rachol were not taken into confidence.into confidence. Let the government repair the old Borim bridge and solve the problem, he suggested.
Raia Sarpanch Xavier Fernandes, Rachol Sarpnach Joseph Vaz, former Raia Sarpanch Rumaldo Gonsalves, social worker Jesus Romao and others also addressed the meeting.
