Bishnupurwas ruled under the Gupta period by local Hindu kings who paid tribute to Samudra Gupta[citation needed]. Following a long period of obscurity, where the land oscillated between being a minor independent principality and a vassal state. The land is also called Mallabhum after the Malla rulers of this place. The Malla rulers were Vaishnavites and built the famous terracotta temples during the 17th and 18th century at this place. The legends of Bipodtarini Devi are associated with Malla Kings of Bishnupur.[1]
Bishnupur (the distance from Kolkata is 132 km), now the headquarters of the subdivision of the same name in Bankura district, is a seat of crafts and culture.
For almost a thousand years it was the capital of the Malla kings of Mallabhum, of which Bankura was a part, till their power waned during the times when Mughal Empire weakened under the last monarchs of the dynasty.
The patronage of Malla king Veer Hambir and his successors Raja Raghunath Singha Dev and Bir Singha Dev made Bishnupur one of the principal centres of culture in Bengal. Most of the exquisite terracotta temples for which town is justly famous were built during this period.
Mrinmoyee temple of kings is treated as a valuable historic place.
Apart from the unique architecture of the period, Bishnupur is also famous for its terracotta craft and its own Baluchari sarees made of tussar silk.
Royal patronage also gave rise to Bishnupur Gharana (school) of Hindustani classical music in late 18th-century[2] and the Bishnupur school of painting.
Since 1997, the temples of Bishnupur is on UNESCO World Heritage Site's Tentative list.

Bishnupur is a town located in the Bankura district of West Bengal. The town is famous for the terracotta temples made from the locally available laterite stones. The Malla rulers were Vaishnavites and built the famous terracotta temples during the 17th and 18th century at this place.
Rasmancha Radha Krishna (during Rasa festival) 1600 It is the oldest brick temple. Built by King Bir Hambir. The temple has an unusual elongated pyramidical tower, surrounded by hut-shaped turrets, which were very typical of Bengali roof structures of the time.
Jor-Bangla Temple 1655 Built by King Raghunath Singha Dev II. The ornate terracotta carvings are set off by the roof in the classic chala style of Bengal architecture.
Pancha Ratna Temple Shyam Ray (Krishna) Terracotta work on work on Shyamrai Temple Bishnupur 7.JPG 1643 Built by King Raghunath Singha. It stands on a low square plinth and consists of an ambulatory pathway with a porch opened by three arches on the four sides of the temple. The central shikhara is octagonal, while the rest four are square. The walls are richly decorated with terracotta carvings featuring aspects of Lord Krishna’s life.
Madanmohan Temple 1694 King Durjana Singh Deva built the temple in the ekaratna style, a square flat-roofed building with carved cornices, surmounted by a pinnacle. Impressive carvings on the walls depict scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata and the Puranas.
Lalji Temple Radha Krishna Radhashyam Temple -1658 Built by Bir Singha II in ekaranta style. It is built on a square raised plinth, consisting of ornamental stucco decorations on low relief carvings.
Radhya Shyam temple Radha Krishna 1758 Built by Chaitanya Singha in ekaratna style. It was built in a square plan, consisting of a dome shaped shikhara and stucco motifs depicting floral, geometric and depiction of the life from puranas.
Nandalal Temple Nandalal (Krishna) 17th Century Consisting of a square ground plan and a single tower resting on a curved roof. Very little motif work can be seen on the lower part of the temple.

Radhavinod Temple 1659 Raghunath Singha I built the temple in brick.
Madangopal Temple 1665 A Pancharatna mandir built by Shiromani Devi, Queen of Veer Singha II.
Murulimohan Temple 1665 Built by Shiromani Devi, Queen of Veer Singha II. It is an ekratna temple with floral designs and stucco works.
Radha Govinda Temple 1729 Built by Krishna Singh, son of Gopal Singha in ek-ratna style with laterite.
Radha Madhab Temple 1737 Built by the daughter-in-law of Mallaraj Gopal Singh, Churamoni Devi in ek-ratna style with brick and has bas relief curvings.
Chhinnamasta Temple Built by the Guin family of Midnapore.

Malleswar temple 1622 Built by Mallaraj Bir Singh. It is an Ekratna temple built of laterite stone.
Mrinmayee Temple Originally 997 AD Originally built by Jagat Malla in 997 AD. The Durga puja takes place for 15 days and all the other temples in Bishnupur does not start the puja until the cannon has been fired from the temple.

মল্লভূমে বিষ্ণুপুরের ইতিহাসের সাথে নাম জড়িয়ে আছে ৯৯৭ খ্রীস্টাব্দে প্রতিষ্ঠিত দেবী মৃন্ময়ী মাতার মন্দিরে। খোদ মল্লরাজ পরিবারের কূল দেবীর বিগ্রহ থেকে এই গয়না চুরির ঘটনায় চাঞ্চল্য ছড়িয়েছে সারা বিষ্ণুপুর জুড়ে। পুলিশ ইতি মধ্যেই চুরির কিনারা করতে তদন্তে নেমেছে। বিষ্ণুপুরের রাজ পরিবারের সদস্য থেকে এখানকার বাসিন্দারা আবিলম্বে চুরির ঘটনার কিনারার দাবীতে এবং এই মন্দিরে নিরাপত্তার দাবীতে সরব হয়েছেন।

Bishnupur is well connected via roads. it is connected to almost all major places of Bengal. Long distance buses connect Bishnupur to places like Arambag, Durgapur, Asansol, Kolkata etc.
If you are coming from Kolkata , the the bus journey will take to reach bishnupur almost 5 to 6 hrs...The bus usually leave Kolkata from the Esplanade bus stand.

Rasmancha || Bishnupur Terracotta Temples, Bakura West Bengal
Probably, an unexplored and unknown heritage attraction to the world is Rasmancha Temple in Manipur. Located in the district of Bishnupur, Rasmancha was earlier a temple which was established by the Malla King - Vir Hambir in 1600 AD. The aim to build the temple was to celebrate Ras festival; during the festival, the idols of deities, whether small or big, was taken to this temple from all the nearby shrines. Till 1932, the temple used to exhibit all the local idols in the public. The beautiful tourist attraction in Manipur was also used to stage dances where different scenes of Krishna Leela used to perform. However, after 1932, the festival has been observed on the grounds of the popular Durga temple located in the near proximity. Ramancha is standing on a raised platform and has a pyramidal superstructure. Apart from being only one of its kind in the country, Rasmancha is also one of the oldest brick temples in India. Although at present, the temple does not serve as a temple, instead, it has now become one of the top heritage sites in Manipur. However, this heritage site is protected under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and has undergone maintenance a number of times. As a result of this, there is now the facilities of lightning.

Hi Guys welcome to RandomViews in Today's videos ill show you the places I've visited recently in the Bishnupur District in West Bengal. Here's the list of places i have visited during this trip and recommend others to visit this place too :-
1. Rashmanch Temple - It was commissioned by Mallabhum king Hambir Malla Dev (Bir Hambir) in 1600 CE. Its the oldest temple made by brick.
2. Maa Chinnamasta Temple - : One of the most famous and lively Deities in Bishnupur is the Chinnamasta Mata. The temple is roughly 100 years old and newly renovated.
3. Jor Mandir group of temples - located near the Maa Chinnamasta mandir The Jor Mandir is a complex of three temples . These temples, of laterite, were built by Malla King Gopal Singh in 1726.
4. Radhashyam Temple - Built by Chaitanya Singha in ekaratna style. It was built in a square plan, consisting of a dome shaped shikhara and stucco motifs depicting floral, geometric and depiction of the life from puranas.
5. Jor-Bangla Temple - Built by King Raghunath Singha Dev II. The ornate terracotta carvings are set off by the roof in the classic chala style of Bengal architecture.

মল্লরাজা বীরহাম্বীর আনুমানিক ১৬০০ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে এই মঞ্চটি নির্মাণ করেন। বৈষ্ণব রাস উৎসবের সময় বিষ্ণুপুর শহরের যাবতীয় রাধাকৃষ্ণ বিগ্রহ এখানে জনসাধারণের দর্শনের জন্য আনা হত।১৬০০ থেকে ১৯৩২ সাল পর্যন্ত এখানে রাস উৎসব আয়োজিত হয়েছে।
শ্যামরায় মন্দির
মল্লরাজা রঘুনাথ সিংহ টেরাকোটা কাজে সমৃদ্ধ দক্ষিণমুখী এই মন্দিরটি নির্মাণ করেন। এই মন্দিরের দক্ষিণদিকের দেওয়ালে নিবদ্ধ প্রাচীন উৎসর্গ লিপি থেকে এই তথ্য জানতে পারা যায়। শ্যামরায় মন্দির বিষ্ণুপুরের প্রসিদ্ধ টেরাকোটা শৈলীতে নির্মিত একটি মন্দির। মন্দিরটি চৌকো, দৈর্ঘ্য ও প্রস্থে ১১.৪ মিটার। মন্দিরের চারদিকের খিলানগুলি সুন্দর কারুকার্যময় স্তম্ভের ওপর নির্ভর করে নির্মিত হয়ে ফাঁকা দালানের মতো অংশের সৃষ্টি করেছে। এই দালানের ভেতরে মন্দিরের গর্ভগৃহটি অবস্থিত। গর্ভগৃহের দরজা টেরাকোটা শৈলীতে ফুল ও বিভিন্ন প্রকার নকশা দ্বারা সাজানো। মন্দিরের ছাদ চৌকো ও উত্তলাকার। ছাদের চার প্রান্তে চারটি শিখর বা শীর্ষ বর্তমান। উড়িষ্যার স্থাপত্যরীতিতে নির্মিত এই শিখরগুলি প্রত্যেকটি প্রতিসম। ছাদের ঠিক মাঝে একটি অষ্টভূজাকৃতি শিখর বা গম্বুজ বর্তমান। এই অংশে মন্দিরের উচ্চতা ১০.৭ মিটার। মন্দিরের বাইরের ও ভেতরের দেওয়ালে রাসলীলা, রামায়ণ ও মহাভারতের কাহিনী এবং বিভিন্ন কারুকার্যের দৃশ্য আছে।
জোড় বাংলা
মল্লরাজা প্রথম রঘুনাথ সিংহ দ্বারা নির্মিত এই মন্দিরটি পরস্পর সংযুক্ত দুটি দোচালা কুটিরের সমন্বয়ে গঠিত। সংযুক্ত অংশের মধ্যস্থলে একটি চারচালা শিখর বিদ্যমান। তাই একে জোড় বাংলা বলা হয়। মন্দিরের দৈর্ঘ্য ১১.৮ মিটার, প্রস্থ ১১.৭ মিটার ও উচ্চতা ১০.৭ মিটার। মন্দিরের দেওয়ালে রামায়ণ ও মহাভারতের কাহিনী, সামাজিক জীবনযাত্রা ও শিকারের দৃশ্য টেরাকোটা অলংকরণের মাধ্যমে চিত্রিত।
মদনমোহন মন্দির
মল্লরাজা দুর্জন সিংহ এই একরত্ন ইষ্টক নির্মিত মন্দিরের প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। এই মন্দিরটির ছাদ চৌকো ও বাঁকানো, কিনারা বাঁকযুক্ত ও মধ্যে গম্বুজাকৃতি শীর্ষ বর্তমান। মন্দিরের দেওয়ালে কৃষ্ণলীলা, দশাবতার ও অন্যান্য পৌরাণিক কাহিনীর বিভিন্ন দৃশ্য ভাস্কর্যের মাধ্যমে রূপায়িত। মন্দিরের দৈর্ঘ্য ও প্রস্থ ১২.২ মিটার এবং উচ্চতা ১০.৭ মিটার।

মল্লরাজা বীর সিংহ দ্বারা নির্মিত এই মন্দিরটি চৌকো বেদীর ওপর অবস্থিত। এই মন্দিরের দৈর্ঘ্য ও প্রস্থ ১২.৩ মিটার এবং উচ্চতা ১০.৭ মিটার।
রাধাশ্যাম মন্দির
মল্লরাজা চৈতন্য সিংহ মাকড়া পাথরের এই মন্দিরটি প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। মন্দিরের দৈর্ঘ্য ও প্রস্থ ১২.৫ মিটার এবং উচ্চতা ১০.৭ মিটার। মন্দিরের শিখরটি গম্বুজাকৃতির। মন্দিরের দেওয়ালে পুরাণরামায়ণ ও মহাভারতের কাহিনীর স্থাপত্য লক্ষণীয়। মন্দিরের প্রবেশদ্বারে ইটের নহবতখানা আছে। পূর্বদিকে উড়িষ্যার স্থাপত্যরীতি অনুসারে নির্মিত তুলসীমঞ্চ ও নাটমঞ্চ বর্তমান।
নন্দলাল মন্দির
চৌকো বেদীর ওপরে নির্মিত একচালা মন্দিরটির বাঁকানো ছাদ এক শিখর বিশিষ্ট।
কালাচাঁদ মন্দির
মল্লরাজা রঘুনাথ সিংহ মাকড়া পাথরের এই একচালা মন্দিরটি প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। মন্দিরের সামনের দিকে পঙ্খের অলঙ্করণে কৃষ্ণলীলা ও পুরাণের কাহিনী দেখা যায়।
রাধাগোবিন্দ মন্দির
মল্লরাজা কৃষ্ণ সিংহ ঝামা পাথরের একচালা মন্দিরটি প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন।
রাধামাধব মন্দির
মল্লরাজা গোপাল সিংহের পুত্রবধূ চূড়ামণিদেবী মাকড়া পাথরের এই একচালা মন্দির প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন।
জোড় মন্দির শ্রেণী
মল্লরাজা গোপাল সিংহ মাকড়া পাথরের এই মন্দিরগুলির প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। দুটি বড় ও একটি ছোট মন্দির নিয়ে এটি জোড় মন্দির শ্রেণী নামে পরিচিত।
মৃন্ময়ী মন্দির
মল্লরাজা জগৎমল্ল এই মন্দির তৈরী করেন। এই মন্দিরের পিছনে মল্লরাজাদের রাজবাড়ীর ধ্বংসাবশেষ বর্তমান। এই মন্দিরে পশ্চিমবঙ্গের সবচেয়ে প্রাচীন দুর্গাপূজা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়ে থাকে।
বড় পাথর দরজা
মাকড়া পাথরের তৈরী খিলান সজ্জিত এই প্রবেশপথটি মল্লরাজা বীর সিংহ তৈরী করেন। এটি বিষ্ণুপুরের প্রাচীন দুর্গের উত্তরদিকের প্রবেশ পথ। তোরণের মধ্যে প্রবেশ পথের দুই দিকে সৈন্য সমাহারের উপযোগী দুই তল বিশিষ্ট দালান বর্তমান।
ছোট পাথর দরজা
মাকড়া পাথরের তৈরী এই প্রবেশপথটি মল্লরাজা বীর সিংহ তৈরী করেন।
গুমগড়
মল্লরাজা বীর সিংহ গুমগড়ের প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। এই স্থাপত্যটি কি কাজে ব্যবহৃত হত, সে বিষয়ে বহুমত রয়েছে। ঐতিহাসিকদের মতে, এটি ছিল রাজবাড়ীর জলের ট্যাঙ্ক।
