Wooden sculputres tell stories about old lithuanian folklore and religions before Christian time. Park is free of charge. We had a guide who talk stories about the sculptures. You might get more out of the part with a guide. Time of visit was rainy - which gave a special atmosphere for the vist.

Raganų kalnas. Juodkrante. www.litva.lt

Ablinga wooden sculptures, Lithuania 2
Ablinga sculptures memory park (Abliíngos memorialas), Lithuania 2001
Another video Ablinga sculptures, part 1
Ablinga is a village in Lithuania, located 48 km (30 mi) east of Klaipėda. First mentioned in the 14th century, The 2001 census recorded village's population of 3 residents.
On June 23, 1941, the second day of the Nazi invasion of Soviet Union, Nazi punitive squadron executed 42 villagers from Ablinga and nearby Žvaginiai (28 men and 14 women) and burned down the houses. In 1972, in memory of the massacre a sculpture park was established on the Žvaginiai hill fort. The ensemble consists of 30 wooden statues, carved by various Lithuanian folk artists (see dievdirbys) and measuring some 6 metres (20 ft) in height. The memorial, as the first monumental display of folk sculptures, was an important development in revival and modernization of the traditional Lithuanian art of wood carving and inspired other similar sculpture parks.

To the topic: WHAT IS INTERESTING IN LITHUANIA?
PLACE OF POWER, MOTIVATION, FANTASY AND ART !!! FAIRY TAILS live HERE ????????????
We found the Witch Hill near a small Lithuanian village Juodkran on the Curonian Spit. For a long time I wanted to get here. The hill was a sacred place for the tribes of Cours and Sambo. Their lifestyle and religion inspired Tolkien to create the Sindar tribe (twilight elves). After the arrival of the Crusaders in 1255, the worship of these gods became forbidden, but the witches came to the hill each year and performed rituals of worship of the forces of nature and Mother Nature.
Here the devil and witch play cards. Dark and Light powers are in a battle here. In 1979 Lithuanian artists - wood carvers and blacksmiths - gathered in a creative camp on a spit. They created 25 sculptures. Until now almost every year the craftsmen come here to restore old sculptures and create new ones.
